Life is too short to miss out on good food. Chongqing is bustling with people, cars, and countless eateries; finding a truly special and delicious restaurant among them is quite a challenge! Today I'm recommending a foodie destination in Nan'an: the "Cliff Restaurant." Besides the great food, you can also enjoy free views and take photos at Nanshan—such a great deal!

Name: Tongluo Huagu Cliff Restaurant

Rating: ★★★★

I've been to many places, but this is my first time dining right on the edge of a cliff—such a unique feeling. Overall, the excitement of being on the cliff overpowered any slight fear, and I bravely ate with the precipice right there. I have to say, dining on the cliff has its own charm: feeling the river breeze, admiring the scenery on the opposite bank, and enjoying delicious food—absolutely fantastic!

But if you're afraid of heights, don't worry—there are also indoor private rooms, and the restaurant has WiFi and even mahjong rooms! After eating, friends can play mahjong together and enjoy a leisurely afternoon.

1. Spicy Ecological Fish

The fish is specially sourced ecological fish, with tender flesh, few bones, and no muddy smell. It's bought live and prepared on the spot to maximize freshness. Seasoned with the signature Sichuan-Chongqing region Sichuan peppercorns, chili peppers, plus shredded ginger, garlic slices, and cilantro, then doused in sizzling chili oil—this gives the dish its soul. Pick up any piece of fish: it's fresh, tender, and smooth, both numbing and spicy. The rich red broth soaks into every fiber of the fish, layering numbing, spicy, fresh, and fragrant notes that unfold gradually on your taste buds. The more you eat, the more fragrant it becomes, with an endless aftertaste! And don't waste the fish soup—it's amazing with rice. You'll want to devour several bowls just with the soup-soaked rice!

2. Stir-fried Kidney and Liver

This is another dish I'll never forget. Although it's a staple that every Sichuan chef must master, the flavor can vary greatly depending on how the kidney and liver are handled and cooked. Often in Sichuan restaurants, the liver and kidney have a slight bitterness, or the chef overcooks them, leaving a gamey smell that makes you not want another bite. But at this restaurant, the stir-fried kidney and liver is something I'd happily eat again and again. Flash-fried in a hot wok, it’s colorful, fragrant, and bursting with flavor, crispy yet free of any off-tastes. It is a bit oily, but it’s a perfect dish to go with rice!

3. Baby Cabbage in Superior Broth

"The most precious delicacies often look the most ordinary" perfectly describes this dish. Pork bones, chicken, and other ingredients are slowly simmered for hours to create an essence-rich broth that envelops the baby cabbage. Since the cabbage absorbs liquid so well, it soaks up all that flavorful broth quickly. It can’t compete with the numbing-spicy punch of other Sichuan dishes, but it has its own unique charm that leaves a lasting impression!

4. Tongluo Hanging Roast Chicken

As a famous river-view cliff restaurant, how could it not have a signature dish starting with "Tongluo"? Tongluo Hanging Roast Chicken is one of the restaurant's specialties. It pairs chicken with mushrooms, but don't think it's just "braised chicken with mushrooms"—that would be a big mistake! Chongqing's beloved chili peppers add a spicy kick, while the mushrooms bring a fresh, delicate aroma, all enhanced by the rich, distinctive flavor of classic Pixian doubanjiang (fermented broad bean paste). The chicken is wrapped in the umami of the mushrooms, with a spicy boost—one bite and you’ll be blown away!

5. Mountain City Spicy Pork Intestines

Who doesn’t love pork intestines? How could anyone resist them? With their unique texture, pork intestines are beloved all over. This spicy intestine dish is a personal favorite! The fat inside is cleaned thoroughly, then the intestines are deep-fried until dry and shriveled, giving them a crispy-outside, soft-and-chewy-inside texture. The finishing touch is carefully selected dried chilies, sautéed until their fragrance is fully released. It looks incredibly appetizing and tastes even better!
