Barramundi

The body of the Barramundi is relatively elongated, slightly compressed; the head is small, snout sharp and short; mouth medium-sized, lower jaw protruding and slightly longer than upper jaw; posterior end of maxilla enlarged reaching below the posterior margin of the orbit, etc. Additionally, there are flat small spines on the operculum, and the body color is tea brown on the upper sides, silver white on the lower sides, tail fin relatively round and fan-shaped, body covered with large ctenoid scales.

How big does Barramundi get?

Depending on the fishing area, the average catch may range from 2 to 7 kg (5 to 15 lb), with lengths between 60 and 120 cm (2 to 4 ft). The maximum can reach 180 cm (6 ft) and 60 kg (130 lb), but such giants are extremely rare.

Distribution of Barramundi

Commonly found in freshwater and saltwater of the Indo-West Pacific, from the Persian Gulf through India, Southeast Asia, southern China and the Philippines, to Papua New Guinea and Australia.

How to catch Barramundi

They accept a wide variety of baits. If using natural baits, live mullet, minnows, barramundi frogs, shrimp and freshwater prawns work well (dead baits are less effective). Artificial lures can be small fish pattern lures or flies.

Eating Barramundi

Barramundi is considered a gourmet meat in Australia—mild, white, versatile, and nutritious.

You will go out with the captain on his specially customized 25-foot fishing boat, powered by a 130 HP Honda four-stroke outboard engine. Each trip can accommodate up to 8 anglers, making it ideal for enjoying sea fishing with a group of friends. It also features a full canopy shade and a toilet.

All the travel packages you expect include quality fishing gear and bait. The boat has a large cooler with plenty of ice, and you can bring drinks and snacks. If you catch legal-sized fish, they can be cleaned and iced on the boat. There is a great restaurant at the dock that can cook your fish for lunch or dinner.

Depending on the season, you may encounter famous species such as Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Queenfish, Trevally, Salmon, Fingermark, etc. A day trip is usually split into two parts: an early morning charter for early risers, and an afternoon trip for those who like to sleep in.
