Changsha Food Guide! A Local Takes You to Eat Across the City
When visiting Changsha, most people are drawn by its food! As an international food capital, if you don't indulge in one delicious meal after another here, you'd be doing a disservice to your stomach. But if you only eat Hunan cuisine and snacks every day in Changsha, even the most skilled chef couldn't satisfy your picky palate.
As a food enthusiast, I roam the streets of Changsha daily, never missing an opportunity even in the short time after work. Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures, especially for travelers or tourists; food allows you to taste the feeling of 'being on the road.' In this context, today I'm recommending a series of highly acclaimed restaurants to meet your expectations and demands for food during your journey. All the dishes recommended today have been personally tested multiple times, covering not only Hunan cuisine but also Hong Kong-style tea restaurants, Thai cuisine, and upscale dining. These restaurants have all been visited repeatedly, and not only myself but also my fellow diners have been full of praise for them.
Food can satisfy the picky tongue, and stimulating the taste buds is the real deal. I won't recommend any influencer-endorsed spots—good is good, bad is bad. No matter how famous a place is, if the food isn't good, I absolutely won't recommend it. There are bound to be omissions in this guide, but it's definitely sufficient for a short trip to Changsha!
Be sure to read this recommendation guide yourself. The Changsha food check-in guide begins now!

Unlike the simple 'cat and fish' in Jay Chou's song, Dao Xiang is a restaurant specializing in Cantonese cuisine. It's not just the Cantonese who love spending a whole day over tea; Changsha locals do too. Many tourists and locals book in advance to come here for morning tea. The menu is extensive, with congee, small buns, pastries, and soups—everything you need to taste authentic Guangdong cuisine in Changsha!
The golden wontons with filling have smooth, tender skin and a firm, bouncy pork filling, topped with a translucent shrimp. One bite encompasses land, sea, and air—savory and fragrant!
The soft, translucent rice rolls wrap distinct, plump shrimp, sliding into your mouth as if alive. The sweetness needs no words. If you order at Dao Xiang, be sure to get a portion and devour it in one bite.
If you're drunk on life's wine, this duck blood will wake you up—tender, smooth, numbingly spicy, and richly fragrant. Absolutely superb. Sitting in your chair, the aroma wafts over, irresistible, making you taste and fall into the deliciousness.
The delicate pink lotus seed buns hide quietly in small bamboo steamers. When you take a bite filled with curiosity, the sandy lotus seed paste slowly flows across your tongue, seeping into your every organ. On a warm, sunny morning, a bite of such a delicious bun sweeps away all travel fatigue and restores the joy of life.

Mo She Restaurant is highly recommended. Unlike other restaurants, the moment you walk in, it feels like you've entered a paradise, isolated from the noise of the mall, allowing you to sit quietly and enjoy the unspoken secrets between food and your tongue. At Mo She, you can embark on a global culinary journey and experience the pristine presentation of dishes from around the world and China without repetition.
Not only the food, but the dining environment at Mo She also offers an excellent state—a collision of modern minimalist Chinese style and classical art, exuding understated luxury and mystery.
Mo She Bird's Nest Avocado Mash
Crystal-clear, smooth bird's nest paired with delicate, silky avocado mash. One bite will amaze you—fresh because of the original ingredients, unique because of creativity.
Grilled Cod with Glutinous Rice and Preserved Meat
A half-transparent large piece of cod at first sight, paired with black vinegar sauce and preserved meat rice, dancing on your tongue. So comfortable~

This is a super stylish restaurant with a Thai-style design and exquisite decoration, giving a sense of solemnity, elegance, refinement, and high class. It really feels like being in Thailand, and the restaurant offers both open-air and indoor seating options.
Royal Tom Yum Kung Soup
This dish is extraordinary—a limited edition! Only 20 jin of freshwater prawns daily, paired with seafood, mushrooms, and Thai spices, simmered into a Tom Yum soup that combines sour, spicy, salty, and rich flavors. To taste it, you need luck—go early!
Sweet and sour pineapple & mango, crunchy fried dough sticks, and a bite of crispy fried prawns—this is perhaps the life we yearn for!
Curry King Braised Prawns
The aromatic curry perfectly blends with the tender prawn meat, giving a very enjoyable experience. The 'heavy-flavored' Thai curry redefines your expectations for cuisine. Even without filters, it's a killer on your social feed!
Apart from the food, the complimentary shrimp chips at the restaurant are especially delicious, and don't forget to ask for the beautiful, tasty ice cream.

Many people have eaten at the nationwide chain Grandma's Home, which offers refined home-style flavors. But the Golden Grandma's Home on the 5th floor of Changsha IFS is an upgraded version, with noticeable improvements in the dining environment, dishes, and service. If you want to experience Jiangnan flavors, choose this one!
The shrimp with a light tea fragrance shine with a crystal gloss. Smooth on the outside, but crunchy when bitten, paired with plum sauce—refreshing and appetizing. No wonder it's a famous Hangzhou dish!
It is said that only 18 are available daily. A whole spring chicken wrapped in lotus leaves, with braised pork (perfectly balanced fat and lean) and mushrooms stuffed inside. After cooking, the meat aroma and mushroom umami blend into the chicken. Go early to taste it!
The name alone evokes a Jiangnan-style snack: tender lotus root with osmanthus honey syrup. The combination is not greasy but refreshingly sweet, a delightful appetizer before or after a meal. Sweet-toothed friends, you're in for a treat!
Unlike the leavened soup dumplings I've had, Hangzhou soup dumplings have thin skins and generous filling, with savory broth inside. First, poke a small hole to sip the broth, then pop the whole thing in your mouth for a lingering fragrance.
Duck is cute and delicious! Even without a filter, this Hangzhou braised duck will make anyone drool. Salty-sweet flavor, skin not crispy but chewy, meat not dry and full of juice. Love it!

Let me recommend a restaurant with an ambiance perfect for couples on a trip. Lu Xiang Xiao Zhen's environment is more refined, warm, and cozy, without being noisy. And if you come to Changsha without eating at a Hunan cuisine restaurant, you'll definitely regret it. After dining at Lu Xiang Xiao Zhen, you'll know that Hunan cuisine isn't just about spicy heaven; there are many more surprises beyond the heat.
10 Minutes 30 Seconds Chopped Chili Fish Head
This is their signature must-order dish, a perfect combo for photos and rice! An enormous fish head sits in a pot with a pre-made broth base, covered with chopped chilies, steamed for 10 minutes and 30 seconds. When the lid is lifted, the aroma bursts out—an absolute showstopper!
Listed on the show 'Food China,' this unassuming clay pot contains surprisingly amazing pork trotters and free-range chicken. The chicken is tender and smooth, barely clinging to the bone; the trotters are soft, chewy, and fragrant without being greasy. Not as spicy as the fish head, but perfectly seasoned. If I had two stomachs, I could devour another pot!
This dish is one of Changsha's classic Hunan dishes, found everywhere. But Lu Xiang Xiao Zhen has created its own unique flavor. The pot is brought directly to the table and stir-fried, releasing the aroma of celery, chili, and beef. A true 'rice killer'!
The stunning papaya jelly: papaya at the bottom, topped with coconut milk jelly and chocolate jelly. Not too sweet but smooth and fragrant, paired with refreshing papaya, it's the perfect post-meal dessert. Great for beauty and skin care, a must-order for friends!

Now that we've covered main meals, Changsha IFS is huge—you'll need afternoon tea when tired from shopping! The cakes and bread are all fantastic, along with sweet flower and fruit teas, and fruit sparkling water. Bubble tea with cake—girls, let's go!
The appearance is impeccable, and the taste is even more praised! Each item has a unique name and charm, worth trying all!
Rosenina has an incredibly wide variety of bread and cakes. The quality of a cake depends mainly on the cream used. After tasting through, the happiness-filled cheese bun, soft and sweet donuts, and the signature French baked cheese with salted egg flavor are all super awesome! Ladies, you can choose with confidence!

If you're skating at LG2 and feeling tired and thirsty, there's a great fruit tea shop nearby! The signature mango pomelo sago is an authentic Hong Kong-style drink, with rich fruits and chewy tapioca pearls. For those with decision paralysis, pick this—it won't go wrong!
Strawberry Fruit Bliss is a summer new item: a cup of sweet and sour mixed four-fruit milk, with chewy tea jelly, kicking off a vibrant afternoon!

Only at night in Changsha can you understand the meaning of 'Star City'—not just because of the many celebrities, but because this bustling city never sleeps. Bars are the most suitable places for the night.
The 105 Whisky Bar has a standard old-school British style. The paintings, photos, and ornaments on the walls exude a unique gentlemanly elegance. You don't need to invite friends or family; you can treat it as your own secret base. Different cocktails for different moods. The pleasing bartender, the drink containing joy or stress—an appropriate indulgence lets you experience the true essence of life!
The above recommendations for the Changsha IFS food trilogy are all five-star. Here you can eat cuisines from all over the world and authentic Hunan dishes. The restaurants are extremely popular, with long queues—it's common to wait several hours. But for your taste buds to enjoy a high-end food life, even a long wait is worth it!

Jiu Shi BBQ has many branches in Changsha, with similar taste, so you can choose the nearest one.
Beef fat is what draws many people to Jiu Shi BBQ. Eating a skewer of beef fat in one mouthful is an amazing feeling—highly recommended!
Garlic-flavored / Pickled Cabbage Pork Belly
Besides beef fat, I also recommend beef, pork belly, or basa fish. The pickled cabbage pork belly is quite distinctive—meat wrapped with pickled cabbage. Basa fish is tender. For veggies, I recommend eggplant, king oyster mushroom, and lotus root slices. Also, recommend sour plum juice to cut the grease!

This restaurant is at No. 389 Wuyi Avenue. Going around 5 or 6 PM usually means no queue, but it's best to call ahead to book and be safe.
Drunken Frog, Ex-Girlfriend Fried Noodles, Finger Ribs, Original Fried Shrimp, Honey Cherry Tomatoes
This restaurant is quite distinctive, offering a dual treat for the senses. The service staff here are good-looking! It's great for a late-night snack. The environment and hygiene are far better than street stalls. The drunken frog meat is tender, not spicy but flavorful; the fried noodles are dry, well-seasoned, and not oily... None of the recommended dishes are duds—you can eat with peace of mind!
Besides these, Changsha has many other snacks worth recommending. For stinky tofu, try Black Classic; for sugar-oil rice cakes (tangyou baba), go to the alley next to Changjun High School—often see people queuing. For fatty braised chicken feet (Pang Pang Lu Zhua), it's opposite Lehe City, super delicious, soft and flavorful, spicy enough! For crayfish, never go to Wenheyou! The taste is very average; locals don't go there for crawfish. I recommend Tianbao Brothers.
The above is the Changsha food guide compiled for you foodies. If there are omissions, feel free to add! Welcome everyone to visit Changsha~
