Changsha people are famously known for their love of food. Walking on the streets of Changsha, you see countless restaurants of all kinds, leaving many tourists confused about where to eat. Today, I'll recommend several food streets that local foodies must visit, guiding you to eat your way without getting lost.

This is the first food street every tourist must check out. The antique-style architecture embodies Changsha's cultural heritage, carrying a thousand years of history. Old times, vintage objects, and weathered memories are pieced together. Amid the black tiles and white walls, Taiping Street has always retained its timeless sentiment.

On this street, hundreds of specialty shops line up. Today, Taiping Street has become a food street. You can find local snacks like Zhazhazha (fried skewers), stinky tofu, cold noodles with sauce, and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls in syrup). The top recommendation is Wenheyou Fried Food Society. Every time I have friends from out of town, I take them there. The shop's decor is very unique, with a post-80s vibe. Though it's fried food, it's not greasy at all. The ingredients are fresh. I recommend bullfrog, dipped in secret sauce—it's delicious. Chicken cartilage, beef fat, and cabbage are also worth trying.

Pozijie is another famous food street in Changsha. It connects with Sanwang Street, Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street, and Hualong Pond, bustling from day to night. There's an abundance of food here. I recommend Hu Dia's Bike BBQ—their grilled ribs and grilled bullfrog are both tasty.

Another recommendation is Feidachu's Chili Stir-Fried Pork. It's a chain restaurant specializing in Hunan cuisine, with over 20 years of history. Their signature dish uses the front leg meat of Ningxiang spotted pigs from Changsha, which is very tender. The ingredients are carefully selected, and the chef stir-fries it fresh. It has a very good reputation.

The glossy chili peppers look beautiful under the light. The side ingredient is white fungus, adding rich textures to the dish—the fragrance of pork, the spiciness of chili, and the crispness of white fungus blend perfectly, leaving a lingering salty and savory Hunan taste. The price is reasonable, and the portion is generous. The sauce from the chili stir-fried pork is great for mixing with rice—it's so good you can easily eat three bowls. Other dishes are also authentic Changsha flavors. Although the menu is not extensive, you won't be disappointed.

Wenmiao Ping is near schools and carries the taste of many local Changsha people's childhood. Zhazhazha, Jinji's Tangyuan Tuotuo, and Wangwang Snacks are all on this street.

You must try Jinji's Tangyuan Tuotuo. Unlike the tangyuan elsewhere, here they are shaped into balls, fried until golden, and then skewered on bamboo sticks. Freshly fried, they are very hot and soft, with a strong glutinous rice aroma. After a few minutes, the outer sugar layer hardens and becomes crispier. When you eat them then, they create thin sugar threads and are not sticky—quite lovely.

Dongguashan is the street for midnight snacks, marking the start of Changsha people's nightlife.

Don't miss the Dongguashan large sausage. Almost everyone comes here just for the authentic Dongguashan sausage. It's made with local Changsha cured sausage, with more fat. Paired with chili powder, it's not greasy at all—sweet and salty, very delicious.

Dandan Hot Spiced Food is also worth a try. The shop has a retro feel and focuses on Changsha flavors. They use a secret marinating method with ancestral secret spices to create various hot-spiced derivatives, which can be mixed with meat and vegetables.
