On a not-so-pleasant Monday, Foodie began thinking about where to go for this year's May Day holiday. That's a full 5 days! It really requires a little bit of advance planning. First, of course, is to decide on the destination. May Day is one of the rare opportunities in the year to travel outside the province. I'm sure many of you have been longing to visit our big Changsha. So here, Foodie presents a complete Changsha travel guide for the May Day holiday!

When you come to Changsha, how can you not visit Orange Isle? This is a place engraved in our DNA. No one should forget that poem, right?

Orange Isle Scenic Area is located in the middle of the Xiangjiang River opposite the city center of Changsha. It is the largest famous islet in the Xiangjiang River, stretching from south to north across the river's heart. To the west lies Yuelu Mountain, to the east is Changsha City, surrounded by water, extending for dozens of miles. At its narrowest, it's about 40 meters wide, and at its widest, about 140 meters, shaped like a long island.

A must-visit spot in Changsha! IFS National Gold Center!

The highlight of IFS is the two giant sculpture artworks on the rooftop—KAWS.

The giant sculptures are 8 meters high, sitting back-to-back and leaning on each other. They are located on the 7th floor sculpture garden of Changsha IFS. From the highest point of the bustling city center, you can view the popular pedestrian street and overlook the Xiangjiang River, interacting closely with the public and appreciating the beauty of art.

IFS's 7th floor also hosts various exhibitions from time to time! It's also a great opportunity to take beautiful photos, click click click~

Location: Wuyi Commercial Circle and Central Business Core Area, Furong District, Changsha

This is a paradise for street photography. Although many people don't know it, it's very popular on Weibo. It is located on the Xiangjiang River Scenic Belt, the former site of Changsha South Railway Station. There is also an old steam locomotive in the park.

It preserves the old railway, green trains, steam locomotives, and old platforms, making it a place where memories can dock.

Location: Intersection of Xiangjiang Middle Road and Yinjiachong Road, Tianxin District, Changsha

As a new landmark in Changsha, the Huayi Brothers Movie Town replicates an Italian-style town at a 1:1 scale. Walking through it, you might feel like you're in Europe.

With Italian-style architecture and old Changsha local architecture as the two main themes, it offers a leisure resort experience combining film shooting, film experience, film entertainment, film-themed exhibitions, a children's film academy, guesthouses, dining and entertainment, derivatives, as well as folk culture and intangible heritage.

Address: No. 6 Xingguang Road, Dawangshan Tourism Resort, Yuelu District, Changsha City, Hunan Province

As we all know, the thing you cannot miss in Changsha is eating, eating, eating, eating, eating! Foodie has found the most famous food streets for everyone. You must not miss them when in Changsha! As a food city, Changsha has countless food streets: Taiping Street, Huangxing Pedestrian Street, Pozijie Street, Rice Noodle Street... Let's see which ones you want to go to!

Pozijie Street is one of the oldest streets in Changsha, named for its slope. It has been developed into a famous food street in Changsha. The quaint street is lined with restaurants and snacks on both sides, with Fire Palace being the most symbolic. Even though opinions vary, as the soul of Pozijie Street, you can taste all of Changsha's signature snacks here. Among them, the most famous is Laojie Fish Mouth, a Changsha specialty that has been popular for 18 years.

In the Pozijie commercial area, there are three Laojie Fish Mouth restaurants: Laojie Fish Mouth Xiangjiang Middle Road Main Store, Laojie Fish Mouth Pozijie Store, and Laojie Fish Mouth Jiefang West Road Store. The main store is highly recommended!

Laojie Fish Mouth Restaurant feels like going back to the era when there were few restaurants on the street. A large restaurant where neighbors gather for morning tea, banquets, and late-night snacks—everything is done here.

During holidays, it is also the first choice for many tourists wanting authentic Hunan cuisine. The popularity once caused queues to extend outside the store, with the constant sound of number calling attracting passersby drawn in by the lively atmosphere.

Its signature dish, Laojie Fish Mouth, is the undisputed uncrowned king in the hearts of Changsha people. It has repeatedly captured diners' hearts, leaving a lasting memory of its deliciousness. The fish mouth uses the lip part of the fish, and it takes a fish weighing hundreds of jin to make one serving. The raw materials are extremely selective. The preparation of fish mouth is traditional Hunan cuisine, incorporating feedback and suggestions from many diners to create this dish that is perfect in color, aroma, and taste. This bowl of fish mouth has a rich aroma, a spicy and savory flavor, a tender and lingering texture, and a homely yet endless aftertaste. It is an ultimate enjoyment.

Steamed Assorted Preserved Meats: This is an indispensable dish on every table in Changsha households. Laojie Fish Mouth's steamed assorted preserved meats include cured meat, cured sausage, and also uses Hunan's pig blood tofu balls. Pig blood tofu balls are a specialty of Shaoyang, Hunan, made from tofu, pig blood, and a small amount of pork. The resulting pig blood tofu balls have the bouncy tenderness of tofu and the texture of pork, and with the unique preserved flavor, they are very popular.

Honeycomb Corn: Because of its golden appearance, it is very popular at various banquets. It is not only delicious but also has a good meaning. For over a decade, this dish has been a must-serve at wedding and birthday banquets. Making honeycomb corn tests the chef's control over oil temperature—too high and it burns black, too low and it doesn't form a honeycomb shape. So this dish is rarely seen in home-style restaurants; it must be made by a skilled chef.

Green Pepper and Perilla Bullfrog: A delight for bullfrog lovers! The sauce is generous, the flavor is authentic, and the bullfrog meat is tender and flavorful. Thumbs up!

Sifangping is a very magical place. It may seem unremarkable, but somehow, whenever people talk about eating, they all go to Sifangping. There is a wide variety of food here, and the shops are relatively concentrated, mostly various snacks. You can eat from one end of the street to the other without getting too full.

Transportation: Take Metro Line 3 to Yaquehu or Sifangping Station and walk.

Any seasoned Changsha local knows a food street. In Changsha, whether you are a hopeful tourist or a seasoned "old Changsha," Nanmenkou is a place with a reputation. Especially the food there is incredibly abundant! Particularly around Changjun High School, any small shop you enter offers authentic "Changsha flavor."

Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 to Nanmenkou Station and arrive.

Even late at night, food-loving Changsha people are out foraging for the city's late-night diners. As the most authentic late-night food paradise in Changsha, Dongguashan hides delightful flavors in an alley less than 1,000 meters long. The most typical are several signature items: Dongguashan Sausage, Mengzhong, and Perilla Ginger with Peach.

Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 or 3 to Houjiatang Station and walk.

Taiping Old Street is located in the southern part of Changsha's old city. It is not only a highly anticipated tourist attraction but also a must-visit spot for food lovers.

Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 or 2 to Wuyi Square Station (Exit 1), then walk 340 meters.

Compared to the bustling Taiping Street and Pozijie Street, Duzheng Street, adjacent to Tianxin Pavilion, is much quieter. Amid the ancient architecture, it has its own unique aura.

At the corner, the 24-hour Zhouji Noodle Shop is the best comfort for the morning if you happen to stumble upon it! The addition of new restaurants like hotpot, grilled meat, and lobster houses injects fresh blood into this ancient street, bringing a delightful new surprise.

Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 to Huangxing Square Station (Exit 2), then walk 710 meters.

Huangxing Square is a bustling commercial street that must be visited in Changsha, attracting tourists from all over the country to take photos in front of the majestic bronze statue of Huang Xing.

Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 to Huangxing Square Station.

The newly opened Changsha Rice Noodle Street allows you to taste the signature rice noodles of 14 cities in Hunan. If you love eating rice noodles, you must not miss it.

Transportation: Located on Jiucaoyuan North Road. Take Metro Line 2 to Furong Square Station or Yingbin Road Station and walk.
