Changsha Guide | Please Bring This Checklist for May Day Travel!
From the approach of the holiday, hotel prices at Changsha's Wuyi Square have skyrocketed from around 100 yuan to around 1,000 yuan. Based on the booming bookings, it's easy to judge that friends from all over the country have come to Changsha, and it is expected that this year the number of visitors could exceed 200 million. Everyone has come to Changsha. As a local foodie, how could I not recommend some fun and beautiful places? So here is this guide, please keep it!
It is said that if you haven't eaten Old Street Fish Lips, you haven't really been to Changsha. As a authentic Hunan cuisine restaurant in Changsha, it has opened many branches. The signature dish, fish lips, is salty, spicy, and heavy-flavored, becoming spicier as it cooks.
Old Street Fish Lips only uses the most "alive" part of grass carp raised in natural environments – the fish's mouth. Extracting one portion of fish lips from 100 jin (50 kg) of grass carp is extremely precious. The delicacy of fish lips lies in their being fried, yet still maintaining a crispy outside and tender inside texture. The salty, fresh, and spicy taste carries a sense of street-market atmosphere, making people feel very familiar.
The main store of Fish Lips is located on the first floor outer street of Huayuan Youyou Port, Tianxin District, Changsha (at the intersection of Xiangjiang Middle Road and Jiefang West Road). The location is very easy to find, with a large and conspicuous red sign at the entrance. Moreover, the main store is open 24 hours a day, offering not only morning tea and lunch but also dinner and evening tea, covering your entire day's dining, haha~ Visitors to Changsha should not miss it!
First choice: Hand-torn chicken! The chicken is tender and juicy, fragrant and spicy, and even the chicken skin is not greasy. The shredded chicken is dipped in sauce.
First choice: Crayfish! The crayfish are quite large in size, good in quantity, delicious in flavor, comparable to Wen He You, very flavorful, a bit spicy~ but acceptable. The price is a bit higher.
A restaurant that even Changsha locals find spicy, but with authentic taste. Long queues form well before meal times. First recommendation: Duck foot tendons! The tendons are removed from duck feet, stir-fried with garlic and chili. The first bite may seem mild, but the aftertaste is strong, giving a burning sensation in the stomach.
First recommendation: Sizzling goose! The restaurant's signature, very tender goose meat! Spicy flavor.
First recommendation: Eggplant with salted egg yolk! It refreshes your understanding of eggplant. The combination of eggplant and salted egg yolk is truly wonderful. The salted egg yolk has a grainy texture, dense and rich, and the eggplant is shredded.
Wuyi Square is one of the most prosperous commercial areas in Changsha and also the oldest district in the city. It gathers many trendy brands and famous restaurants, from high-end luxury to affordable consumption. You can find something suitable here. This place has everything you can think of.
Orange Isle is really large, with green lawns and lush forests all along the way. The sightseeing train is a must; otherwise, walking to the statue will take a long time and be very tiring. The statue is considered a "popular photo spot" in Changsha. Orange Isle in the evening is also very beautiful. The orange lights at sunset and the sapphire blue sky really match. When the moon rises, you can enjoy the cool breeze and gaze at Changsha's bustling nightscape from afar.
You can take the cable car up the mountain and the slide down, which is exciting. But when going to Yuelu Mountain, you must check the weather; otherwise, if the weather is bad, the cable car will be closed. The scenery on the mountain is beautiful, and you can see most of Changsha. When the temperature is low, it can be a bit cold up there, so you need to keep warm. There is a small food street on the mountain. There are two routes down the mountain: one to the East Gate and the other to the South Gate. At the South Gate, you can see the famous scenic spot Aiwan Pavilion.
Taiping Street is the most intact street in Changsha's ancient city that retains the original street layout. This historical and cultural block preserves not only historical relics such as Jia Yi's Former Residence, Changhuai Well, the former site of the West Pailou of Ming Ji Fan's Mansion, the former site of the 1911 Revolution Gongjinhui, and the former site of Sizheng Society, but also modern historical sites. Taiping Street is not only about nostalgia but also full of delicious food.
Every city has its own story. To understand each city, you can visit the local museum to experience its culture. The Hunan Provincial Museum has been listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as one of the first "National First-Class Museums". Among them, the "Changsha Mawangdui Han Tomb Exhibition" is world-famous. It was praised by *National Treasures* as a historical art museum witnessing the multi-source pattern of Chinese civilization, and it is also a cultural landmark of Changsha, Hunan.
Alright! That's all for now! May Day is coming soon, so save this first~ Since you might just need it~
