Changsha Travel Guide: A 9-10 Month Itinerary for Food, Fun, and Trendy Spots!
Latest regulations for entering and leaving Changsha (Arriving in Changsha + Leaving Changsha)
Updated: September 8, 2022
All individuals from other provinces coming to (returning to) Changsha must present a negative nucleic acid test result obtained within 48 hours before entering Changsha, and must proactively cooperate with epidemic prevention measures such as on-site nucleic acid testing and health checks at transportation hubs and entry points. After arriving in Changsha, take one nucleic acid test on-site, and then take another test on the third day. Before the second nucleic acid test result comes back negative, avoid attending gatherings or entering crowded public places unless necessary, and avoid taking public transportation. If you must attend a gathering, follow the organizer’s requirements for nucleic acid testing, health monitoring, and personal protection.
Hey everyone! September to October in Changsha is absolutely, incredibly comfortable! When she came to Changsha, I quickly put together a guide for her!
Temperature around 20°C: short sleeves plus a jacket!
Going to places like Yuelu Mountain and Orange Island now, there’s a gentle breeze!
And it’s after summer vacation, so there aren’t as many people!
I spent 3 hours organizing this guide! Hope you all have fun!
As a native Changsha local,
I feel it’s necessary to put together a practical Changsha guide.
This hard-won Changsha guide will help you avoid wasting time!
Remember to double-tap to save it~
1. Seriously, run away from fruit desserts sold on the street – they’re ridiculously expensive, easily costing a hundred yuan. Isn’t fruit from a store just as good?
2. Really, really don’t buy Fox Claws (chicken feet). They’re overpriced from sketchy sellers – ten chicken feet for nearly a hundred yuan, when you can buy way more chicken feet elsewhere.
3. I don’t recommend Wenheyou – it’s expensive, the air conditioning isn’t strong, it’s crowded and cramped. Going in summer will make you question your life choices.
4. There’s really no need to compete with commuters for taxis – it’s a pain, basically takes half an hour just to get one, and then you’re stuck in traffic forever.
5. Transportation: The subway is your best choice. Attractions aren’t far apart, and taking the subway is very convenient.
6. The queues at Sexy Tea (Chayan Yuese) are ridiculously long – you’ll wait forever. You can try other branches instead.
7. Smoking ice cream is just a gimmick, totally pointless, and not even as tasty as cheap ice cream.
8. Many trendy restaurants are hyped up, and very few actually taste good. Choose carefully!
9. It’s best to book hotels via apps – the ones offered by touts on the street are often illegal and unsafe.
10. On Wuyi Square - Huangxing Pedestrian Street - Taiping Street, be very careful! There are swindlers targeting tourists! Their scams are sophisticated, and even many locals fall for them!!
11. On Taiping Street and Huangxing Pedestrian Street, there are people in costumes who want to take photos with you – don’t take photos with them! They all charge money, and ask for payment after the photo.
12. Hunan Provincial Museum is closed on Mondays – don’t make a wasted trip in this hot weather.
13. Don’t go to Mango TV to spot celebrities – security is very tight, you won’t get in, and you won’t even catch a glimpse of them.
14. Never accept “free” small gifts that require scanning a QR code – your account could easily be stolen.
15. It’s best to use a ride-hailing app, or at least agree on a price beforehand. Otherwise, a motorcycle taxi might cost more than a regular taxi.
16. Never leave without an umbrella – Changsha’s weather is more unpredictable than your girlfriend’s mood.
17. Don’t go to Hunan Rice Noodle Street – aside from one wall of graffiti, it’s really not worth it.
18. Never go directly to trendy restaurants during meal times – ask beforehand if you can join an online queue.
19. Never pick oranges on Orange Island – you’ll get fined.
20. Renting power banks outside is expensive and a huge hassle to return – it’s really better to bring your own.
