within a kilometer, you can reach a park,

When it comes to classic park landscapes in Chicago, you must think of Millennium Park, Grant Park, and Lincoln Park, right? But Chicago is far more than that! Today, the editor will take you to explore another treasure of this city of parks—Maggie Daley Park.
Located in downtown Chicago, Maggie Daley Park is just a bridge away from Millennium Park. It features play equipment suitable for children and adults of all ages, including various climbing walls, a huge outdoor ice skating rink, golf and tennis courts, a perfect picnic lawn with views of the city skyline, and a secret garden for strolling and chatting.
As a metropolis that cherishes tradition and features landscapes commemorating famous figures everywhere, who is this park commemorating?
That's right—former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, known as the 'Green Godfather'! It was this mayor who personally led people to dismantle an airport overnight to build Northerly Island Park. In order to transform Chicago, once called the 'Black City,' into the greenest city in the United States, he changed the city's former gray heavy-industry image and led Chicagoans to realize their green dream!
But why is this park called Maggie Daley? The Chicago Park District Board renamed the park in honor of Maggie Daley, the long-serving First Lady of Chicago. She dedicated herself to improving children's lives and ensuring that all citizens of the city could enjoy a rich cultural life. As a powerful force behind Chicago's many nonprofit organizations, Mrs. Daley was a tireless advocate for the city. Therefore, today she is remembered for her grace, perseverance, passion for life, and commitment to a better Chicago.
To revitalize the ground-level space above the underground parking garage adjacent to Millennium Park, designers created this new public space. The newly designed Maggie Daley Park integrates spaces such as the Daley Bicentennial Plaza, the Cancer Survivors' Garden, and the Peanut Park into a connected public space in the heart of Chicago.
In such a park in the center of the city, it contains a super multifunctional area. Want to take a closer look? Then follow the editor to see what's inside!
