Swans and Icicles
So in the coldest days of winter, I bundled up in cotton coat, pants, shoes, and hat to the teeth, braved winds of force eight or nine or ten, and wobblingly crossed the sea to arrive at my home in Hainan. As soon as I got off the boat, I headed straight for Yandunjiao. Sure enough, in the morning glow, the swans had already been awake for hours. These swans, having seen the world, did not change their wintering schedule because of our excitement. They ate when they wanted to eat, drank when they wanted to drink, and quarreled noisily, without any trace of the elegant, graceful demeanor seen on screen. In their pushing and grabbing, they triggered a barrage of 'bombing' from the shoreline enthusiasts armed with long lenses and big cameras. Yandunjiao is a small village. In recent years, the swans have brought much fortune. The villagers have renovated many seaweed houses, and conditions such as public security, hygiene, and prices are also good. We stayed in a seaweed house that is cool in summer and warm in winter. The landlords were a friendly and diligent middle-aged couple. The room was very clean and dry, and the wifi signal was great. All the ingredients were home-grown. The landlady cooked personally, changing the menu every meal. Memorable dishes included braised fish in a pan, vinegar cabbage, soy sauce salted fish, and sweet and soft sweet potatoes. Three meals a day plus accommodation cost only one hundred and thirty yuan. She also had a nice name—Sun Junxia. The swans at Yandunjiao are very close, allowing people to observe them up close. So I captured many warm and tender scenes, which brought a touch of warmth to my heart in the cold wind. From Yandunjiao, I rushed all the way to Yantai. There, on the coastal road, I saw the icicles I had always wanted to see in Dalian! The waves roared as they climbed the seawall, raising three-zhang high waves, warning people to keep away. The icicles were crystal clear, winding and twisting, as if putting a necklace on the city. I quickly got closer, took a pose, and then ran off. In fact, when you are on a journey, there are sights everywhere. Traveling is just giving your heart a little vacation. The Spring Festival is approaching. After a rest, perhaps in the sunny March there will be even more and better places for me to travel through.
