Weekend Travelogue (6/5-6/6)

We four colleagues took a public bus from Dalian Development Zone at 6:40 AM to Pikou Port, costing 25 RMB, about 1.5 hours. Then we took a boat from Pikou to Dachangshan Island, fare 55 RMB per person, 1 hour.

At Pikou Port, we met a homestay lady who came to pick up guests. She said there were some rooms available and invited us to stay. After arriving at the port, she arranged a taxi to take us to her homestay (taxi fare 40 RMB). We arrived a little after 10:00 AM. The cost was 280 RMB per person including three meals and accommodation. We stayed in her so-called second-floor sea-view room (more expensive than first floor), from which we could directly see the sea, though the sea environment there was not impressive. Before lunch, we strolled along the nearby beach.

After lunch at 11:10, we took Bus No. 3 from the bus stop near the homestay to Xiaochangshan Township Government Station. At that point, we didn't have a specific destination; we just wanted to walk around. Seeing that the terminal of Bus No. 6 at the station was Xiaoshuikou Forest Park, we decided to go there. After waiting about half an hour with no Bus No. 6 arriving, we took a taxi. The ticket for Xiaoshuikou was 40 RMB, and the sightseeing time was about 1.5 hours.

Notably, the taxi drivers on the island seemed very honest and enthusiastically introduced some characteristic attractions and local customs. We only needed one taxi driver's phone number to call a car anywhere on the island. She could arrange nearby cars for pick-up and drop-off at reasonable prices. After visiting Xiaoshuikou, we called a taxi back to the homestay. On the way, colleagues thought it necessary to go see the Changhai Bridge, the largest livelihood project invested in Changhai County.

Walking across the entire Changhai Bridge took half an hour. When we reached the Dachangshan Island side, the homestay owner called asking us to come back for dinner.

After dinner, we could stroll around Changhai County town on our own, but it was disappointing, so I don't recommend going.

The next morning, we took the 8:00 AM ferry to Guanglu Island. This time it was a speedboat taking half an hour, with 65 passengers, costing 65 RMB. After disembarking, we directly hailed a private car of an island resident (with 'taxi' written on it). When asked the fare to Mazu Temple, they said 100 RMB, which startled us. We wondered why it was so expensive but grudgingly got in. During the ride, we learned that the 100 RMB included pickup and drop-off at various attractions near Mazu Temple and the return ferry. The ticket for Mazu Temple was 30 RMB.

After sightseeing until noon, we had lunch in the center of Guanglu Island Township and then took the 1:30 PM ferry back to Pikou, ending the two-day weekend trip.

1. Island residents are hospitable and honest.

2. Scenery is beautiful, sea water is clear.

3. Few tourists, suitable for independent travel.

4. Seafood is delicious and plump.

Special reminder: Bring your own dry food and water when visiting Xiaoshuikou Forest Park and Laotie Mountain Scenic Area.
