Roaming the World (1555): Chifeng Self-Drive Tour Part 11 – From Chifeng to Dalian

The final day of the Chifeng self-drive tour in mid-to-late September 2021 was the return trip from Chifeng to Dalian. Photos taken along the way.

The autumn sky is clear and crisp, allowing us to capture the herds of cattle by the roadside.

The previous day, we returned to Chifeng from the Ashatu Stone Forest in Hexigten Banner. Photos taken along the way.

The autumn sky is clear and crisp, with blue skies and white clouds; the scenery along the route was quite pleasant.

Upon arriving in Chifeng, light rain began to fall.

It is said that Chifeng got its name from a reddish-brown mountain in the northern part of the city. Chifeng is the birthplace of the Xinglongwa culture, as Xinglongwa people lived here 8,000 years ago, earning it the title “China’s First Village.” Chifeng is also the cradle of the Hongshan culture; the jade dragon unearthed here from the Hongshan culture has witnessed five thousand years of China’s rise and fall, becoming the “First Dragon of China.” Photo taken at Chifeng Jade Dragon Square.

Chifeng was once known as Ju Ud League. In 1969, Ju Ud League was placed under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province. That year, many educated youths from Dalian were sent to Ju Ud League. In 1979, Ju Ud League was returned to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. On October 10, 1983, with the approval of the State Council, the league was abolished and the city was established, implementing a system where the city governs counties (banners). Chifeng is a multi-ethnic city primarily composed of Mongolian and Han people. It is the most populous city in Inner Mongolia and a central city in eastern Inner Mongolia. It has been designated by the autonomous region government as a provincial sub-center city. The main sculpture of Chifeng Jade Dragon Square – “Flying Dragon in the Sky.”

Our self-drive tour convoy held a farewell dinner at the Chifeng Feast Restaurant.

The Chifeng Feast Restaurant was quite upscale.

Our farewell dinner was nice.

The hand-grabbed lamb was very delicious.

After dinner, my friend and I went to the Duyijia Local Specialty Shop near the hotel to buy some souvenirs for our families.

The next day we set off on the return journey. The distance from Chifeng to Dalian is a total of 650 km. We took a rest break at the Damiao Service Area. After leaving the Damiao Service Area, the convoy split up (some fellow travelers went to Jinzhou for sightseeing). Thus ended this Chifeng golden autumn off-road tour!
