The Dalian International Hiking Festival is a flagship mass sports event in Dalian, recognized as a city symbol, a sports gathering, a festival for citizens, and a carnival for hiking enthusiasts. Having been successfully held for 21 editions, it has attracted over 4 million participants cumulatively and is hailed by the International Walking Federation as “the world’s most influential walking event.” This year’s two-day festival gathered walkers from 32 countries and regions and 139 domestic cities, with an expected total of 250,000 participants.
May 19, the date of the Dalian International Hiking Festival, also marks the 14th China Tourism Day. A total of 80 people from the Northeast Regional Management Team of Jinjiang Hotels (China Zone) and general managers of hotels in the Dalian urban area participated in this hiking event. Meanwhile, the presence of the Ginco Hotels, Yunju Series, Huiyu, and Ouxia Series Resort Hotels brands attracted widespread attention. It was not only a cross-industry collaboration between brands and the Dalian International Hiking Festival but also a collective celebration of “China Tourism Day” by the Northeast regional team of Jinjiang Hotels (China Zone).
“China Tourism Day” originates from the opening chapter of “The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake,” titled “Travel Notes on Mount Tiantai,” by the great Ming dynasty traveler, geographer, historian, and writer Xu Xiake: “On the last day of the third lunar month of Guichou year (May 19, 1613 AD), leaving Ninghai by the west gate, the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly, with joyful expressions in both people’s hearts and the mountain scenery.” This brief 24-character opening of Xu Xiake’s work left a cultural tourism treasure for future generations. On November 6, 2000, Ninghai County in Zhejiang Province issued the “Xu Xiake Travel Club Declaration,” which for the first time in China formally proposed setting “5·19” (the opening day of Xu Xiake’s Travel Diaries) as “China Tourism Day.” On April 10, 2011, the State Council officially approved that from 2011 onward, May 19 of each year would be designated as “China Tourism Day.” The theme for China Tourism Day 2024 is “Travel Freely in China, Live a Happy Life.”
In recent years, “new-styled lodging” has become a necessity for a quality life. China’s hotel industry has entered a stage of high-quality development pursuing richness, diversity, refinement, and quality. The public yearns to explore more diverse, distinctive, or vibrant travel destinations. Jinjiang Hotels (China Zone) has been strategically positioned in the resort hotel segment for many years, owning brands such as Ginco Hotels, Yunju Series, Huiyu, and Ouxia Series. The brand philosophy and promoted lifestyle of these four resort hotel series resonate well with this year’s China Tourism Day theme, “Travel Freely in China, Live a Happy Life.”
