According to data previously released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, China replaced New Zealand as Australia's largest source of tourists in 2018. So, we are not unfamiliar with this country. But when it comes to Australia, most Chinese people still think of well-known cities and attractions like Sydney, Melbourne, and the Great Ocean Road. However, Australia is rich in tourism resources, with unique flora, fauna, and world-class natural landscapes in all four corners, making it a country absolutely worth revisiting.

Four years ago during the winter break, we dedicated our first trip to Australia entirely to the southernmost paradise – Tasmania. This time, we plan to spend a full 18 days exploring Queensland in eastern Australia. Just the name sounds beautiful and magnificent: Land of the Queen! Queensland is a particularly blessed place, with over 300 sunny days a year, which is rare worldwide. That's why it's also called the "Sunshine State" of Australia. It is also the wealthiest tourist destination in Australia, boasting a stunning 2,300-kilometer coastline and a gem-like ocean wonder – the Great Barrier Reef, one of the "Seven Natural Wonders of the World" and the only ecosystem visible from the moon. It is the world's largest coral community and marine park, a ultimate destination for diving enthusiasts. Additionally, Queensland is one of only two states in Australia that allows holding koalas (the other is South Australia). Brisbane has the world's largest koala sanctuary, the Gold Coast has numerous theme parks and Surfers Paradise, and Moreton Island offers close encounters with dolphins and the chance to hand-feed wild dolphins... All of these deeply attracted and tempted us, making it a unique family travel destination that can satisfy both adults and children!

In most people's concept, our winter is Australia's summer, so winter vacation is the best travel season for Australia if you bring kids. But Queensland has a typical subtropical oceanic climate, humid, sunny all year round, with an average temperature above 20°C, suitable for tourism all year. However, summer (December to February) is hot, occasionally above 35°C, and also the rainiest period, often with storms. The highlight of our trip: the Whitsundays Great Barrier Reef, has a subtropical climate with only wet and dry seasons. November to May is the wet season, muggy and rainy (average max temp around 32°C), with turbid seawater and cloudy skies, making snorkeling underwater unclear. February to April is also typhoon season, often causing delays or cancellations of boats and helicopters. If a typhoon hits, the whole itinerary is ruined. Many people I know went to Queensland during winter break and it rained every day, ruining their plans. So, June to October is best, with stable climate, refreshing and pleasant, average temperature 23°C, max 27°C, min around 16°C, comfortable for swimming and sightseeing. Not all parts of Australia are suitable for winter break trips. So, although the Great Barrier Reef is always there, it is highly seasonal. Only by doing proper homework and comprehensive understanding can you see its beauty!

During the trip, many friends on WeChat asked me: "Is it winter in Australia now? Can you wear so little?" It seems everyone has a big misunderstanding about Australia!

Australia's visa approval rate is quite high, and there are many related posts. You can find a lot online, so I won't go into detail here.

Applying online through the visa center website is very simple and convenient.

1. International Flights: Shanghai – Brisbane

There are no direct flights from Shanghai to Brisbane; usually you need to transit in Hong Kong, Singapore, or Sydney. For international tickets, my years of experience say the earlier you buy, the cheaper (with exceptions, but generally). I usually book tickets 6-8 months in advance, then watch the price slowly rise, feeling like I got a bargain. For peak periods like winter and summer breaks, the price one month before travel can be 3000-4000 RMB more than six months before. For our family of three, it was just over ten thousand. So, how can I not be happy? Hehe...

I booked 7 months in advance, round-trip Shanghai to Brisbane (transit in Singapore) at 4750 RMB per person.

2. Domestic Flights:

Brisbane – Hamilton Island

Operated by Virgin Australia and Qantas, flight time 1 hour 45 minutes. Since flights are few, check the schedule when planning.

I booked 5 months in advance at 492 RMB per person. Prices vary by time.

[Hamilton Island Airport Website]

1. Gold Coast:

Recommended accommodation in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, or Main Beach for convenience. Over 40% of accommodations are in Surfers Paradise, with various star hotels, apartments, resorts, and hostels to suit different travelers.

If budget allows, fully equipped sea-view apartments/hotels are the first choice.

2. Brisbane:

Recommended accommodation near the train station. It's convenient from Gold Coast by train, and the station is in the city center, close to South Bank and Queen Street Mall, making transport, shopping, and sightseeing easy.

3. Moreton Island (Dolphin Island):

Tangalooma Island Resort is the only hotel on the island. If not on a day trip from Brisbane, you must stay here. Strongly recommend at least one night; various water sports and hand-feeding wild dolphins – few hotels worldwide offer this?

4. Hamilton Island:

Hamilton Island is a famous upscale resort, known as "Rich People Island," with many resort hotels and excellent service. After landing, free hotel shuttle buses take you to the hotel, but it's not cheap. If budget is tight, you can go to the Great Barrier Reef from Airlie Beach, but you'll miss Hamilton Island's beauty.

5. Airlie Beach:

Not particularly scenic, but much cheaper than Hamilton Island, with great value. It has various accommodation types – luxury hotels, budget hotels, backpacker hostels – meeting different needs.

Time difference between China and eastern Australia: +2 hours.

Telstra has the best coverage in Australia. We used their SIM card throughout this trip; good signal and fast internet. Optus, the second-largest carrier, is also decent if your itinerary isn't too remote, and cheaper than Telstra. You can buy in advance on Taobao or at the airport after landing. SIM cards are much cheaper than portable Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi needs charging and is heavy to carry!

[From Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast]

1. Airtrain: The most cost-effective way from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast. About 1.5 hours, frequent: every 15 minutes during peak, 30 minutes off-peak. Fare: one-way adult $34.50, child $7.70; round-trip adult $67, child $15.50.

Booking on the official website offers discounts: 5% off same day or day before, 10% off 2-6 days before, 15% off 7+ days before. For one adult and one child, $42.20, save $5.17, actual $37.03.

So, booking online 7 days in advance is cheaper, and you can check schedules and station names conveniently.

Robina, Nerang, and Helensvale stations have bus connections to the city center. Choose the nearest station to your hotel and transfer by bus or walk.

But since our flight arrived at 19:30, customs took time, and my husband wasn't with us – just two women with luggage – too tiring. So we chose an airport transfer service.

2. Brisbane Airport Shuttle:

Advantage: direct from Brisbane Airport to various Gold Coast hotels, convenient, no walking or transfers. Adult 240 RMB, children 1-13 years 124.8 RMB.

Disadvantage: more expensive than Airtrain, fixed departure times, and other passengers, so possible waiting.

Since travelogues cannot mention other platforms, if you want to know the booking platform and method, you can message me on Weibo. Same for all subsequent activities.

1. After booking, you'll receive an e-ticket. Print it out. Go to the carrier's counter at the airport for check-in, and they'll tell you the boarding point.

2. Each person is limited to one suitcase and one carry-on; extra costs apply.

3. From Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast hotels: earliest 7:00, latest 23:00. If flight is delayed, wait for the next shuttle.

3. Taxi: Most convenient but expensive; directly take a taxi or private car if cost is not an issue.

[Paradise Centre Apartments]:

We stayed in a 270-degree sea-view high-rise apartment in central Surfers Paradise, only 20 meters from the beach, with sea views from the balcony. When we arrived it was dark, but opening the balcony door made me exclaim "Wow!" – all fatigue vanished!

We booked an executive one-bedroom apartment, 83 sqm. Same size as a one-bedroom but more expensive due to better location and wider sea view. Fully equipped kitchen and laundry. This was our home for the next five days. Photo taken the next day:

Rooftop outdoor pool, tennis court.

Later, we discovered the building is next to a large shopping mall, accessible from the 4th floor, with a big supermarket. Less than 200 meters to Surfers Paradise Shopping Center, many restaurants, bars, an Asian food street, and across from Xiao Tianfu Spicy Pot. The apartment's front door faces the airport bus stop (Gold Coast airport bus), and the back door diagonally opposite is a light rail station. Perfect location!

Lying in bed enjoying the night view – so comfortable!

Alright, let's calm down and sleep early to be energetic tomorrow!

Today is a rest day with no special plans. Woke up naturally; sunlight seeped through the curtains. First thing: go to the balcony and exclaim "Wow!" again – so beautiful!

"Facing the sea, with spring blossoms" – easily achieved!

After freshening up, we went out to find food!

So convenient here: 20 meters to the beach, a row of restaurants. Chose one randomly and sent little C to order; mother just sat back and enjoyed! Haha...

When the east coast wind of Australia hit my face, the holiday began!

This place has a name that makes you want to vacation – Gold Coast, located south of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. Facing the sea to the east, backed by mountains to the west, sunny all year. Golden beaches, lush rainforests, and diverse activities attract millions of tourists annually. Most famous beaches: Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, and Main Beach.

Gold Coast's biggest draw: world-class, year-round waves! The area we stayed in is called "Surfers Paradise" – truly worthy of the name!

Nicknamed the Miami of the Southern Hemisphere, Surfers Paradise is a major tourist hub where you see surf enthusiasts from around the world riding the waves daily!

There are many surf clubs. I thought about signing Cici up for a class, but we only stayed five days, and with two days at theme parks, we'd only manage three lessons – just as she gets hooked, it would end. Too frustrating. Maybe another time!

Below our apartment is the Surfers Paradise shopping mall, Center Surfers Paradise, the largest shopping center on Surfers Paradise, at the corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Cavill Avenue. It has over 100 specialty stores, including international brand stores, DFS duty-free, trendy boutiques, and souvenir shops.

Strolling on the street, experiencing daily life on the Gold Coast!

[What is Go Card?]

A public transport card shared by Brisbane and Gold Coast, usable on trains, light rail, buses, and Brisbane's CityCat ferries. Go Card saves about 30% on fares, and 50% discount during off-peak hours. If you use it nine times in a natural week (Monday to Sunday), the tenth trip is free (except for Brisbane Airport train). Convenient and cost-effective, highly recommended if not driving.

[How to Buy Go Card?]

Available at airport tourist counters, Airtrain stations, and light rail stations. Only some stations have manned ticket offices; most are self-service machines. A deposit of AUD 10 is required (children/seniors AUD 5, refundable on return). Minimum top-up AUD 5. Self-service machines do not give change. Rumored to be available at 7-Eleven, but I haven't verified, so just hearsay.

[How to Use Go Card?]

Touch on when boarding, touch off when alighting. Always tap both times; otherwise, you'll be charged the maximum fare. Note: for light rail, the card reader is on the station platform, so tap before boarding.

[How to Return Card?]

Can be returned at airports, train stations, and light rail stations, but like buying, not all places have manned counters; some are self-service machines.

Walking through the mall to the intersection of Cavill Avenue, we unexpectedly saw a light rail station. And this station has a manned counter – go buy a Go Card! The platform also has self-service machines for purchase, return, and top-up.

With a transport card, we can go anywhere, yay!

This market is located at a marina next to Main Beach, with pleasant scenery! Like Sydney Fish Market, it sells fresh and cooked seafood. You choose ingredients and they cook them; there are tables at the entrance. Try the best-selling, multiple award-winning "Top Ten Australian Fish and Chips" – crispy fish and soft chips are a perfect match. Grilled fresh oysters with unique sauce are also delicious! If you can't finish, seagulls are watching and won't waste any! Haha...

On the way back from the fish market, sitting on the bus, we suddenly saw a pink sunset over a beach. "Oh my god, so beautiful!" I didn't know where it was, but we got off anyway! A super beautiful pink beach, dreamlike, like a Miyazaki animation! The best part: we had it all to ourselves! For someone obsessed with "no strangers in photos," it was ecstasy!

On the way back from the station, we visited the supermarket. Woolworths is a well-known Australian chain; we frequented it in Tasmania four years ago. Seeing the familiar logo felt warm! Filling the fridge felt great! Haha... With dad away, little C is our strong worker!

Gold Coast at night is even more dazzling! Our home's balcony is truly beautiful!

Morning, Gold Coast! Today's blue sky, white clouds, and sea:

Yesterday was rest; today will be energy-releasing!

Besides beautiful beaches, Gold Coast has Australia's best theme parks. There are six theme parks here, belonging to Warner Bros. and Dreamworld groups. They offer combo tickets. Online, you can get Movie World + Sea World + Paradise Country + Wet'n'Wild combo for only 500 RMB (child 398 RMB), cheaper than a single Shanghai Disney ticket, and with fewer crowds and no long lines.

The following park ticket prices are walk-in prices, much higher. Pre-booking combo tickets online is cheaper: besides the four-park combo, three-park combo is 450 RMB (child 390), two-park combo 300 RMB (child 260). Even a single park ticket is much cheaper than official price.

Also, Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, and Q1 are under the same company, so you can buy a combo pass for these three, unlimited use within 7 days. Adult 292 RMB, child 257. Dreamworld + Q1 Observation Deck: adult 285 RMB (child 195). There are also packages including koala photos at Dreamworld, many options.

So, whatever theme parks you choose, always book online in advance; travel agency platforms are much cheaper than official.

Behind our apartment building is the Cavill Avenue light rail station, called G-link. Unlike domestic light rail stations, it's like a bus stop with no barriers or security checks.

While waiting, little C studied the bus routes: [image]

Here comes the train! Very Gold Coast style!

After boarding, Cici and I searched for a card reader but couldn't find one. We observed the next station's passengers to see where they tapped. Then we realized the reader is on the platform – the yellow device on the left in the photo below. Alighting also needs tapping there.

No staff check on platforms; it's all on trust. The station where we changed to TX7 was the G-link terminal, the only station we saw with staff. We went to them, explained we hadn't tapped before boarding, and they helped.

Leaving the light rail station, turning left is the bus station. Both Movie World and Dreamworld take TX7.

We accidentally discovered that turning right leads to the Airtrain station, where we'd transfer to Brisbane in a few days. Unintentionally, we figured out the Brisbane route!

Wet'n'Wild and Movie World are close; TX7 first stops at Wet'n'Wild where half the passengers got off, then one more stop to Movie World. From G-link to Movie World took about an hour.

As a super roller coaster fan (not including me, only Cici), the main mission at Movie World was to conquer their 7 super exciting roller coasters!

Right at the entrance, straight ahead is Superman Escape roller coaster: only half a minute, but the fastest – launches you from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds, Superman-like thrill.

First ride this intense? Let's go!

So thrilling! Cici queued again – she wanted to do it again!

Second-ranked roller coaster – Arkham Asylum: crazy twisting coaster with feet dangling outside, featuring extreme twists with VR glasses – super exciting!

Rainbow cotton candy – little girl's favorite!

Various roller coasters, screams and laughter everywhere!

Hollywood stunt driver show (11:00 and 13:50) twice daily – absolutely not to be missed, reproducing movie chase scenes with audience interaction.

In the amusement park, everyone is a happy child! Screams and laughter, meeting favorite heroes!

At 15:30, the daily parade of cartoon stars and superheroes is a must-see!

I feel this kind of ride suits me better!

This mini Wonder Woman successfully caught the attention of the real Wonder Woman and all of us. So cute!

After the parade, we took photos with heroes, rode 6 super roller coasters – some twice – but the most thrilling one remained...

The tallest, fastest, longest, and most hardcore roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere is here – DC Rivals Hyper Coaster, ranked among the "World's Top 10 Most Thrilling Roller Coasters"! Height 61.6 meters, length 1.4 km, almost double the length of any other Gold Coast coaster, top speed 115 km/h, and the world's first non-inverting loop – unprecedented excitement. You can hear heart-wrenching screams from afar!

This was the coaster Cici most looked forward to challenging. She was confident, but seeing it in person made her hesitate. First she said "Let's ride others first, do this later," then "It's too high!" and wanted to give up. Indeed, just hearing the screams from below was scary. But half an hour before closing, as we were about to leave, she finally mustered courage and decided to try.

Oh my, my little C went alone!

Watching her walk alone toward the queue, at that moment, as her mother, I felt so proud!

Themed around DC Justice League superheroes and their arch-enemies; the highest point features the Joker's iconic face.

DC Rivals Hyper Coaster challenge succeeded! Little C said: "This is a real amusement park, a real roller coaster! Suddenly Disney's Tron and Happy Valley's Tomb Runner seem like nothing!"

After posting on Moments, many friends and family gave little C the title "Hardcore Girl," and she accepted it with some pride, happily. Haha...

In the evening, to reward ourselves, we went to Xiao Tianfu across the street for spicy hot pot!

Prices were reasonable!

A super perfect day!

G-link

Today is also energy-filled!

At the entrance, a welcome ceremony!

Encountered Chinese element – Kung Fu Panda, a little surprise!

Dreamworld also has many rides like roller coasters, Blender, Talon, Big Swing, etc., and there are fewer visitors than Movie World, with wait times under 10 minutes. So Cici rode many 2-3 times in a row.

A foreigner next to us asked Cici: "Is this your first time? Are you scared?" I think he might have been scared himself, hence the question, haha...

The roller coaster here is thrilling and fun!

From the roller coaster, you can see "WhiteWater World" next door.

Several restaurants in the park, so no worry about hunger.

First time trying cola slush!

Dreamworld also has a roller coaster, the most famous being the "KongBu Tower" – still holding a Guinness World Record as the tallest and fastest in the Southern Hemisphere, also ranked among "World's Top 10 Thrilling Roller Coasters" – 360-degree tilted free fall, 15-story inverted flight, vertical drop at 65 mph.

Vibrant colors, endless joy! In the amusement park, this old mother also regained her childlike heart!

The largest tiger enclosure in the Southern Hemisphere – Tiger Island

Tiger cubs born recently – so cute!

This job would be envied by many!

The park's wildlife area has over 500 species of Australian native animals including emus, bandicoots, devils, thylacines, crocodiles, dingoes – the largest in Queensland. But our favorites are still kangaroos.

Here, the Koala Kingdom is the largest koala habitat on the Gold Coast and the second largest in the world. You can also hold koalas for photos; you can pre-book a package including koala photos. Since we'll be going to Brisbane where the world's largest koala sanctuary is, we didn't hold them here.

Today was another long day! The sun set, and we had to go home!

Today's original plan was to go to Paradise Country, as we had bought a combo ticket for Movie World and Paradise Country. But yesterday while checking routes, I found Paradise Country is 1.7 km from Movie World, no direct bus, 25 minutes walk, and the activities were similar to what we saw in New Zealand last winter break, so we decided to sleep in more comfortably, hehe...

The afternoon sun has a lazy magic, and I suddenly wanted afternoon tea!

The most famous and luxurious hotel on the Gold Coast is undoubtedly the Palazzo Versace. There are only two in the world; the other is in Dubai. I'm not particularly fond of the brand; it's not my style, but since we were here and had nothing to do, we decided to have afternoon tea and tour the hotel!

Entering the lobby, the elegant and grand mosaic logo on the floor. Indeed, every design is thoughtful, every detail is Versace!

Suddenly, I realized my outfit matched the place perfectly, haha...

The Le Jardin restaurant on the first floor offers English three-tier afternoon tea from 12:00 to 16:00, at 290 RMB/person.

Near the hotel is a marina with shops and restaurants. Unfortunately, the weather was overcast. If it were sunny, dining by the sea would be beautiful.

Tonight is our last night on the Gold Coast, so we must visit the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere – Q1.

Q1 SkyPoint Observation Deck

Phone: +61-7-55822700

Called Q1 meaning Queensland No.1. Exterior inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic torch. It's also the world's fifth tallest residential building (formerly the tallest, now replaced by Dubai's Princess Tower).

A high-speed elevator takes only 43 seconds to the 77th floor observation deck, 230 meters above ground.

Q1's observation deck is the only ocean-view one in Australia, 360-degree unobstructed.

At night, the sparkling lights weave the unique dynamism and charm of the Gold Coast!

There's a restaurant called Seventy7 Cafe & Bar – dining while overlooking the night view is a rare and unforgettable experience!

Woke up early to another good day! Having spent a few days on the Gold Coast, thinking about friends who came during Chinese New Year but had rain every day and couldn't go anywhere, we are so lucky!

Today no special plans; check out in the afternoon and head to Brisbane. Remembering the apartment's beautiful pool we hadn't used yet!

It's a heated pool – awesome!

Travel without punching in at attractions is so relaxing!

We stayed in the pool until noon, then mother and daughter went out for food!

With its 40+ kilometer coastline, skyscrapers, trendy shopping centers, convenient public transport, spring-like climate year-round, numerous theme parks, and property prices much cheaper than Shanghai... Gold Coast is truly a very livable city! Finally, we walked along the beach to feel its charm!

Listening to the waves, feeling the sea breeze on my face, watching people playing happily on the beach – I could sit here all afternoon...

Besides the six theme parks, Gold Coast also has:

1. Lamington National Park and Springbrook National Park

These are places to see glowworms. The rare blue glowworms can only be seen in Australia and New Zealand. Springbrook is closer to the city, but due to heavy tourist traffic, the glowworm population has declined. Lamington is deep in primeval forest (1 hour drive from city center), with more glowworms, and also has a unique KAMARUN stargazing platform at 1000m elevation for viewing the starry sky. Lamington also has an alpaca farm.

The filming location of Korean Running Man, the zoo has over 1,400 Australian-specific animal species, a great place to connect with nature. Feed kangaroos, hold cute koalas, stroll in an open zoo, and experience authentic Australian wildlife landscape. Rainbow lorikeets are Currumbin's symbol; feeding hundreds of colorful lorikeets is a spectacle. Watch bird flight shows, amphibian shows, sheep shearing, and Aboriginal dance performances.

Since we will go to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane, we skipped this zoo.

Eventually, we had to say goodbye!

Took the train to Brisbane!

Frequent Airtrain services from Gold Coast to Brisbane; you can go anytime without pre-booking, just use Go Card. About 1.5 hours.

Brisbane's train station is a Victorian-era old building!

Brisbane, capital of Queensland, third largest city in Australia. Near the Pacific, it developed from the coastline and ports. The city center is along the Brisbane River.

Like the Bund for Shanghai, the first impression of Brisbane must start from its most famous South Bank Parklands!

South Bank Parklands is on the south bank of the Brisbane River, not far from the train station, with a Ferris wheel, man-made beach, a linear waterfront park built along the river, connected to northern Brisbane by Victoria Bridge etc.

By the river, people sit on the grass reading and chatting, or cycling, jogging, walking dogs. Although Brisbane is Australia's third city, it's far less bustling and noisy than Sydney or Melbourne, more relaxed and comfortable, a place that doesn't make you restless.

It was dusk, and the sunset bathed the river and buildings on both sides in a dazzling gold, warm and striking!

Hardcore girl on the streets! Haha...

Every city has its own unique flavor! Relaxed and stylish is Brisbane's charm!

Sitting by the river, boats crossing, people passing by, yet everything still allows a sense of tranquility and peace in the heart.

Blue sky, gentle wind, you by my side...

Brisbane's city center revolves around Queen Street Mall. Cross the bridge from South Bank and you're there. Queen Street is a pedestrian shopping street, lively with frequent street performances by bands or artists. It's the shopping heart of Brisbane and a must-visit for tourists. Over 600 shops, 45 cafes/restaurants, 2 cinemas, and 11... many world-class brands can be bought here.

In the middle of the mall is a row of restaurants; many locals have a drink here. We joined in! Interpreting the fun of all things in this relaxed slow time.

Seeing a familiar logo felt like seeing a relative – we rushed over! One drink down, full of energy for the day, 20,000 steps no problem! Haha...

King George Square is near Queen Street Mall, built in 1930, with a 70-meter clock tower. Built with Queensland's unique tan sandstone and timber, it is the largest and most magnificent surviving building. Until completion, it was the most expensive building.

Across from City Hall is St John's Cathedral.

Afternoon sunlight through classical buildings exudes a strong humanistic color – a city suitable for nostalgia and romance!

There are five bridges over the Brisbane River: Sir George Bridge, Elizabeth Bridge, Captain Cook Bridge, Story Bridge, and Airport Bridge. The most famous is Story Bridge.

Actually, the bridge isn't called "Story" bridge. It's named after John Douglas Story – his surname is "Story," so technically it should be called "Story Bridge." It became famous because Story later designed more famous bridges.

Built on June 6, 1940, it is Australia's longest cantilever bridge, over 500 meters long, about 80 meters high, listed as Queensland heritage in 1992. It's the second bridge in Australia open for climbing – you can climb to the top for panoramic views.

Address: Main Street, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Getting there: Take train to Fortitude Valley, go down Wickham Street, turn left on Brunswick Street, walk about 200 meters to Martin Street, then go onto the bridge; or walk down Bowen Terrace to New Farm for views; take CityCat or CityHopper, or get off at Eagle Street Pier and walk along City Reach Boardwalk.

Tonight, Mr. Lu finally joined us! We went to George's Paragon Seafood Restaurant Brisbane, ranked #1 in Brisbane.

The restaurant is right next to Eagle Street Pier, so CityHopper is the most convenient.

It has a special policy: "Lunch Half Price, Dinner Half Price - seated between 5:30 & 6:30." That is, half price for lunch, and half price for dinner if seated between 5:30 and 6:30. No reservations for this time; first come, first served. So seats are limited; arrive early.

Welcome Mr. Lu! Our travel group is finally complete! Haha...

No wonder it's the #1 restaurant – environment, service, and food are all excellent. However, the "half price" applies only to some dishes, not all.

Seafood ingredients were very fresh.

As night fell, through the restaurant's floor-to-ceiling windows, the beautiful night view of the harbor was fully visible, with the red Story Bridge especially striking!

After eating and drinking, we walked along the river to digest and head to a secret photo spot I had been hoarding! Hehe...

Everything in sight sparkled like stars – as if I had accidentally wandered into a fairy sister's garden.

Worth the 1.7 km walk each way, nearly 4 km total – it did not disappoint!

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Rated as one of the "World's Top Ten Zoos" by AOL, this is a must-visit in Brisbane. Since Queensland is one of two states that allow holding koalas (the other is South Australia), and this park is the world's largest koala sanctuary, housing over 130 koalas.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was established in 1927, the first koala sanctuary in Australia. Its motto is "The Earth is not just for humans," reflecting its advocacy for harmony and understanding among people, nature, and animals.

[Getting There]

Besides self-driving and taxi, there are two other ways:

1. Bus: Take buses 430 or 445 from Brisbane city center. Use Go Card.

Lone Pine is about 13 km from the city center, about 40 minutes by car. Bus 445 from Stop 40 Adelaide Street in the city center goes directly to Lone Pine. Fare AUD 4.60/person.

Bus 430 from Queen Street Bus Station B4 platform goes directly to Lone Pine (terminal). Fare AUD 4.70/person, about 40 minutes. Those staying south of the Brisbane River can board at Cultural Centre Station.

Tip: The 430 bus stop is underground level 2 of a shopping mall – you can't see it from the street, and there are no signs (we discovered this when we took 430 back). Also, the 430 runs once an hour; on weekdays, the earliest is 8:45 am; on weekends, earliest 8:30 am. Plan ahead.

2. Mirimar Boat Cruise: Departs daily at 10:00 from Cultural Centre Pontoon, directly to Lone Pine, about 75 minutes. Good scenery along the river. Returns at 15:00 to Cultural Centre Pontoon.

Boarding starts at 09:30. Outbound: 10:00-11:15, return: 13:45-15:00. Cultural Centre Pontoon is on the south bank, the small pier under the bridge.

We chose the boat out, bus back plan – enjoy the boat view without being limited by return time, since returning by boat would be too early to have full fun.

One-way boat ticket: AUD 28/adult, child (3-13) AUD 16. I booked on a travel platform in advance: one adult one child total only 189 RMB. Also, round-trip tickets and combo with zoo tickets are much cheaper than walk-in.

Zoo admission: Adult AUD 36, child over 3 AUD 22, family pass available. Pre-booked on platform: one adult one child only 186 RMB, saving 100 RMB compared to walk-in.

[Opening Hours]:

Koala held by staff for photos daily at 1:30 pm.

[Activity Schedule]:

Koala park has various shows at different times: sheep shearing, feeding horses, feeding birds, etc. Check official website for current schedule (may change). Here's the schedule when we visited:

Another beautiful day, taking the boat!

The lovely Brisbane River runs through the city. Connected to South Bank is the Queensland Cultural Centre. The Queensland Museum, Queensland Art Gallery, State Library, and Performing Arts Centre line up along the river, modern and chic.

The library: seats in front of floor-to-ceiling windows face the Brisbane River – such a joy to read here!

When tired from walking, any cafe here is pretty!

The riverbank also has a dedicated running track, much praised by Mr. Lu; he ran there that morning and enjoyed it!

In front of the library is the boarding pier:

Aboard the 70-year-old Mirima river cruise boat, we slowly cruised along the Brisbane River. The captain introduced historical sites and landmarks along the way.

Upon arrival at the zoo, the first thing was to queue to buy tickets for holding koalas! That's the main reason we came, and the number and time for holding koalas are limited daily. If you go late, tickets may sell out.

[Koala Holding Tips]:

1. There are two queues: one orange A queue for holding the koala yourself for a photo (AUD 25/person), and one blue B queue where a staff member holds the koala for a photo with you (cheaper – I queued A, so forgot B's price). Don't queue wrong! Previously, you could pre-book koala holding online, but now it's canceled; you must queue on-site.

2. When holding koala for photo, follow staff instructions: put hands palms up, flat at waist level; staff places koala on your hands; it will naturally grab you with its claws. You just need to hold it steadily.

3. Staff will take your photo; wait about 10 minutes, and you can pick up your printed photo at the nearby shop. The photo cost is included in the AUD 25.

4. Everyone knows koalas sleep a lot, so each koala "works" for a short while before being taken to sleep, replaced by another. I've heard many friends say the koalas at their zoo were sleeping, and they couldn't get photos. So go to a zoo with many koalas to avoid this.

When we arrived, the line was already long. But the queue was inside the koala area, so we could see koalas while waiting.

So cute! No immunity to this creature!

After queuing over an hour, it was our turn!

Finally got to hold you, so happy!

A bit heavy! Hehe...

After completing the main task, we went to see another old friend – the kangaroos!

The kangaroo enclosure is very large with many kangaroos, no fences, great for close contact!

You can buy a bag of feed (AUD 2) at the gate to feed them.

Australian kangaroos are not afraid of people; we encountered wild ones in Tasmania a few years ago that weren't very shy, let alone those in the zoo.

And they are very photogenic!

Encountered a mother kangaroo and her joey:

Little rascal wanted to come out to play!

Having so much fun with the kangaroos, we fed them all but forgot to eat lunch ourselves!

Koala Forest is fantastic! Eating here, surrounded by koala babies sleeping or nibbling eucalyptus leaves in the trees.

Lunch with koalas!

The zoo also has a Koala Museum to help us understand koalas better.

There are many other animals in the zoo. We spent a whole day and really didn't want to go home, haha... Glad I didn't buy round-trip boat tickets; otherwise, time would have been insufficient.

Back in the city center, we met Brisbane's sunset again!

I think a city's night view represents its vitality to some extent.

The more night, the more beautiful!

About 30 km off the coast of Brisbane lies the world's third-largest sand island – Moreton Island. Moreton Island is famous worldwide for its large population of wild dolphins, hence also called "Dolphin Island."

In the 1950s, this island was Australia's largest whaling station. Many whales were slaughtered during their migration to the Great Barrier Reef. Later, they found that whale-watching tourism earned more than whaling, so there was no need to continue whaling.

Tangalooma Island Resort is the only hotel on the island. If you stay here, you can free of charge hand-feed the island's most spiritual guests – dolphins, and they are wild dolphins!

Travel companies also offer day trips from Brisbane to Moreton Island for dolphin feeding, costing around 1000 RMB per person, about the same as one night's room rate. But staying at this hotel includes free dolphin feeding – much better value!

When the boat docked, we were greeted not only by enthusiastic hotel staff but also by a group of little cuties!

Dolphin feeding starts at 6 pm every night. First, go to the Dolphin Care Center opposite the pier to make a reservation, telling them your room number. First come, first served. So go early after arriving, otherwise you might miss the chance.

The resort is well-equipped: restaurants, supermarket, cafe, pool... even a police station.

Our ocean view room:

Even better, activities are super rich – the brochure is a thick 14 pages! So happy I'm spinning!

Sunlight spills freely, waves gently lap the soft sand, and every plant in the resort exudes passion and vitality!

There are many activities on the island. Besides tennis, basketball, billiards, archery, beach volleyball (free), others are paid and require advance booking, and they are not cheap.

As the world's third-largest sand island, Moreton Island has many sand-related activities.

So we chose the most characteristic ones. [We opted for a beach buggy tour that afternoon and sandboarding the next afternoon – both new to us.]

Before departure, an instructor teaches you how to operate. Then under guidance, you practice on flat ground near the beach. Generally easy and safe. But for women and children, the steering wheel is a bit heavy, so turning is more difficult, especially controlling speed to avoid flipping or hitting the roadside.

Tell me, isn't this cool? Haha...

First time driving a beach buggy, we drove 8 km continuously, including narrow, winding mountain roads with many tight hairpin turns – more difficult than the driving test!

Little C proved to be a natural driver – not only did she not flip (a mother in our group flipped), but her speed was good, staying close to the group without falling behind. The coach praised her repeatedly! I deeply believe she inherited my genes, haha...

Back in the room, we sat on the balcony waiting for the most beautiful moment of the day!

There are several specialty restaurants on the island. This one, Fire & Stone Restaurant, is said to be opened by the owner of "...", with authentic Sichuan cuisine exceeding most local Australian Sichuan restaurants, but prices are steep. Boiled fish 56 AUD (about 270 RMB), Kung Pao Chicken 36 AUD, even a plate of hot and sour shredded potatoes 22 AUD – breaking our previous record for most expensive Chinese meal (set in London)!

As darkness fell, the pier lights came on. The most anticipated activity of this trip was about to begin.

Every day at this time, these little guests swim to the resort's beach. Year after year, day after day, never stopping!

The whole process is guided by staff; you queue and proceed orderly. First, dip hands in disinfectant water, then receive a small fish. The resort feeds them common Moreton Bay herring. Dolphins prefer herring because it's high in fat and has few bones, easy to digest.

To prevent the wild dolphin family from relying on this artificial feeding, the activity limits the amount fed. Feeding lasts only 1 hour, and the daily food provided is only 10-20% of the dolphins' daily intake. This means dolphins must still fish on their own to maintain their wild survival skills.

Unfortunately, due to strong sea winds that night, for safety, tourists could only stand on the jetty and throw fish to the dolphins in the sea.

At that moment, we were very glad we were staying two nights, so there was still tomorrow!

Morning, Moreton Island! Woke up by brilliant sunshine every day!

As the world's third-largest sand island, Moreton Island is famous for sandboarding.

The sand dunes here are said to be the world's tallest. When you slide down a 200-foot dune at high speed, the thrill of "surfing" the sand is exhilarating!

The dunes are very steep; speed can reach 40 km/h – very exciting and fun!

And it also exfoliates your face – hehe...

Back at the resort, replenish energy!

Plenty to eat and play – it's a vacation paradise. Highly recommend at least two nights!

Came with joy, returned riding the waves!

Holding stars in hand, may all good things come as expected!

In the evening, we went to the Chinese restaurant again. Expensive, but too tasty to resist! Burgers and fries are cheaper, but eating Western fast food two meals in a row (there was a simple Western diner nearby for lunch) – I just couldn't!

Lady Luck favored us again: today the sea was calm, and we finally got close to the dolphins!

The night temperature was around 10°C, quite cold, and barefoot in the seawater was even colder. But our excitement completely overshadowed the cold.

They came, they really came...

Staff handed each of us a small fish, instructing us to gently pinch the tail, keep thumbs flat and not extend toward the head. Then they guided Cici and me toward the dolphins...

Though the photos were of poor quality, the process was more important. This rare experience still excites us!

The dolphins were so cute!

These photos were taken by staff – paid, of course. The two dolphins we fed were named Luna and Cruze.

The joy travel brings: seeing stunning scenery, encountering touching stories, and those unrepeatable moments!

Wonderful experience, wonderful nature! Animals should live in their own homes!

Humans are actually cruel; many animals are forced away from their mothers soon after birth and trained to become tools for making money. So after Cici entered elementary school (I wasn't very conscious before), I stopped taking her to aquariums, marine parks, or circuses. We skipped Sea World on this Gold Coast trip. But I will take her to Sri Lanka, Australia, the US, and other countries' wilderness and national park reserves to see wild animals, to see wild whales and dolphins at sea. Animals should live in their own homes!

Fresh morning, we took the first ferry back to Brisbane. The little cuties who welcomed us two days ago were still there to see us off!
