In-Depth Tour of Xiapu 3: Shajiang - Gaoluo - Dajing - Lüxia Xiawei Island In-Depth Tour

This route is so spectacular that you can't finish it in one day. Dear readers, please listen to my detailed introduction first, and I'll give you a 1-4 day itinerary at the end.

For many photographers, the S-bend of Shajiang is a must-visit. As an ordinary tourist, I prefer the Xilu Bridge and Gehong Mountain Tea Garden in Shajiang.

Strolling leisurely among the tea gardens, the hustle and bustle of the world fades away. At this moment, the heart is peaceful. The distant Shajiang Cape and Dongwu Ocean allow one to see and think farther.

Ordinary tourists can drive directly to Gehong Mountain Tea Garden, walk around the garden, taking about 1 hour.

Legend has it that during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, Zheng Qiang, a wealthy man from Zhujiang Island, brought his attendant to the capital for the imperial examination. They passed by an inn, where the host served him three cups of tea. He found it strange and asked, "There are only two of us, why did you pour three cups of tea?" The host explained, "There is a little ghost behind you, secretly opposing your pursuit of fame through exams. You should go home and build a road bridge of one pu length, do a good deed for the convenience of the people." Zheng Qiang took a closer look and saw that the speaker had the appearance of an immortal Taoist, so he followed his advice. After returning home, Zheng Qiang decided to build the road with his brother. Since Zhujiang Island is surrounded by the sea, making travel inconvenient, the brothers chose the distance from Zhujiang Island to Xiaoma Village to build the road bridge. They bought a piece of mountain rock opposite the south of the island, hired people to chisel and transport stones, and rushed to fill and pave stones during low tide. When the road bridge foundation was initially formed, they measured it and found it was less than one pu long. Feeling they hadn't met the Taoist's requirement, they rebuilt it in a winding shape, enough to stretch to one pu.

Introduction to Xilu Bridge: Also known as Dalu Bridge, it is a stone bridge connecting the land and Zhujiang Island. The bridge runs east-west. Since the road and bridge are built on the tidal flats, they are submerged at high tide and walkable only at low tide, hence the name Xilu Bridge (Tide Road Bridge). Due to the muddy tidal flats, the roadbed was built by driving pine piles, laying miscellaneous wood and turf, then paving with three layers of stone slabs, both horizontal and vertical. The total length is 3,651 meters, with a maximum width of 1.8 meters. It passes through six bridges, the highest being 2.9 meters. Among them, four bridges have two layers of openings, with small side holes, for tidal drainage and prevention. Xilu Bridge is built on tidal flats, submerged at high tide and walkable only at low tide. Legend has it that an outsider carrying a load wanted to sell goods in Zhujiang Village, but due to ignorance of tide changes, he encountered problems. If you don't know when the tide rises and falls, simply judging by the bridge surface and water level won't work. Around the 15th of each lunar month, people near the sea call the high tide "big water." During this period, the tide rises very quickly; in the blink of an eye, the coastal seawater can rise by one meter!

The fun of Xilu Bridge lies in being able to go deep into the tidal flats and get up close with various small creatures. But remember to check the tide times before going (China Maritime Safety Administration - Fujian Sansha tide times; the tide rise and fall times at Xilu Bridge are 30 minutes to 1 hour later than Sansha). Otherwise, not only can you not enjoy it, but it may also be dangerous.
