1.5 Days 1 Night, A Tour of Xiapu's South and East Routes
Among China's coastal regions, Xiapu boasts the longest coastline in the country, and it is also the hometown of laver and kelp. Because it is an inland sea, the seawater along Xiapu's beaches is not as azure as in Sanya or Xiamen, but rather carries some soil in the waves, so it may appear with a yellowish-brown color. However, this has also created a unique tidal flat environment in Xiapu, which has been reported by various media and become well-known.
This time, time was limited, so the official itinerary only lasted one day. I set a few attractions on the southern route of Xiapu:
1. Dajing Beach
2. Lüxia Beach
3. Beiqi Tidal Flat
4. Homestay (Shenlan She Homestay)
5. Huazhu Sunrise
Driving from Xiapu to Dajing is about 48 kilometers. The first 40 kilometers are on provincial roads and county roads, which are relatively easy to drive, but the last few kilometers are rugged mountain roads that require caution.
When navigating to Dajing Beach, do not navigate directly to Dajing Beach; navigate to Dajing Beach Parking Lot! Dajing Beach Parking Lot! Dajing Beach Parking Lot!
Don't fall into this navigation trap. Just today, I almost had to reverse my car back on a small road.
When you arrive near the Dajing Beach parking lot, locals will wave at you and direct you to turn. In fact, the locals want you to park at their place.
However, the parking lot at the entrance of Dajing Beach is free. After passing the entrance barrier, there is also a paid parking lot further inside. So when there are not many people, you can park in the free lot without worrying about finding a spot.
After entering the entrance archway of Dajing Beach, what catches your eye are rows of pine trees and steps of plank walkways. Haha, don't doubt it; this is the entrance passage of Dajing Beach.
On the plank walkways or on the beach, there are signs indicating the number of viewing platforms, where you can pay for barbecue, rent tents, etc.
After walking through the plank walkway, you will suddenly feel a sense of openness. But what you see is not an endless ocean; it is a beach with ends on both sides. Opposite the beach is Bijia Mountain. I was unlucky today because the wind was strong, so all the boats at the seaside were out of service. Otherwise, I might have been able to visit Bijia Mountain for sightseeing.
Of course, the beach is definitely equipped with beach toys for both adults and children.
But because of this weather, there were not many tourists visiting today, so I had a rare chance to walk back and forth along the beach by myself.
When I turned back, I noticed the lack of signposts indicating the exit, which wasted some time.
After coming out, if it's mealtime, you can try the nearby Dajing Seafood City (actually a collection of seafood processing shops). Although I haven't tried it, it looks decent.
Compared to my visit to Dajing Beach a few years ago, the paid services are now much more standardized, and the environmental management is better than before.
After finishing Dajing Beach, I went to the recently famous Lüxia. The straight-line distance from Dajing to Lüxia is only 4 kilometers, but the journey is 9 kilometers on county roads, plus 1 kilometer of mountain roads. This is a real mountain road. However, I don't recommend driving this 1-kilometer mountain road. Not to mention getting stuck when going downhill, you might even get stuck going uphill and be unable to move forward. (Most of the uphill road is only 1.5 car widths wide. Some people even park on the roadside to save parking fees, which is quite troublesome.) My suggestion here is to walk up the mountain if possible, dear.
The scenery after finishing the mountain road will definitely make you feel that life is worthwhile.
On the roadside uphill, I saw this kind of seafood farm for the first time.
In recent years, plank walkways have been laid in the scenic area, making the path much easier.
Compared to Dajing Beach, Lüxia Beach has a different style.
The unique landform, combined with the long-term erosion of sea breeze and seawater, has created a special environment here.
There is a natural cave here for visitors to take photos. I marveled that even on such a cloudy day, there were quite a few tourists.
Among the three attractions I visited today, Beiqi Tidal Flat has the biggest reputation. The reason why Xiapu has become a relatively famous tourist destination in Fujian in recent years is largely due to the sunrise at Beiqi Tidal Flat.
Note: 1. Sunrise conditions; 2. Not at low tide.
Because I didn't know this beforehand, I foolishly went in the evening and saw the following scene.
If you come here in the same weather and at the same time as I did, taking photos is probably hopeless. If you come to pick snails, then bring your gloves and enjoy the harvest.
To be honest, the tidal flat characteristics of Xiapu have also created seafood products that differ from other coastal cities. Xiapu's shelled seafood is outstanding. So after coming out of Beiqi, I went to the bustling area of the county and had a special Xiapu seafood dinner.
After dinner, I drove to this homestay located by Xiaohao Beach in Sansha Town—Shenlan She.
Because my itinerary tomorrow morning is to watch the sunrise at Huazhu Village in Sansha Town, I searched online for some homestays, but they were either fully booked early or had an environment I didn't like. After looking around, I finally chose this one.
This is a villa with an independent courtyard, featuring a warm courtyard layout. Let me post a few photos first.
It also has a swimming pool, a pleasant surprise.
I heard that this homestay was just newly renovated and opened during the National Day holiday, so everything looks clean and new (maybe also because the landlady has a cleanliness obsession).
When I looked at the homestay online, the photos gave one impression, but after checking in, I was pleasantly surprised and even more sure of my choice.
Ding ding ding, below is my room, Xiashen. Lying in the bathtub in the room, you can see the sunset.
The next morning, there was a free breakfast provided, which was just in time after watching the sunrise.
Before preparing to go to Huazhu Village for sunrise the next day, I consulted the owner about the situation in Huazhu. The owner explained in detail and gave suggestions that helped us save about an hour of traffic congestion.
The suggestions were also divided into two types:
1. Depart from the homestay before 4 a.m. on holidays, because going up to Huazhu Village requires nearly 2 kilometers of mountain roads. However, parking spaces on the mountain are limited, and some people park their cars on the road, causing traffic jams when descending after watching the sunrise. So if possible, try to park your car further outside to save time when descending.
2. On non-holidays, depart from the homestay before 4:30 a.m.

Summary:
1. Dajing Beach is suitable for families with children.
2. Lüxia Beach is suitable for taking photos.
3. Photography at Beiqi Tidal Flat requires sunrise.
4. I recommend this Shenlan She Homestay. It has convenient transportation (whether going to Sansha Town or Xiapu County), a 3-minute walk to Xiaohao Beach, and there are two nearby photography spots: Xiaohao Tidal Flat Photography Spot and Light and Shadow Plank Walkway.
5. For watching the sunrise at Huazhu, if you arrive early, park your car a bit further outside to make it easier to descend after the sunrise.
