Fuding travel route:
DAY1: Home - Fuding
DAY2: Fuding - Mount Taimu
DAY3: White Tea Base - Tea Estate - Dayushan Island - Big and Small Tian Lakes
DAY4: Dayushan Island - Dongjiao Cape of Good Hope - Twelve Constellations Guesthouse - Niulanggang
DAY5: Fuding - Return
Our first stop was Mount Taimu, known as the 'Fairyland on the Sea.' This is the most beautiful mountain along China's coast, facing the sea on three sides and backed by mountains on one. Characterized by granite peak forest and rock caves, it integrates 'mountains, sea, rivers, islands' and cultural landscapes. With 'dangerous peaks, strange rocks, deep caves, and misty fantasies' as its 'four wonders,' each spot can stand alone, yet they complement each other, making it well worth visiting.
Mount Taimu is vast; to explore it thoroughly would take 2-3 days. This time we chose the essential section and spent a whole day.
Starting from the Husband and Wife Peak Square at the entrance, you can see a pair of rocks resembling a couple sitting face to face atop the mountain.
As we climbed, we came upon the ancient Guoxing Temple, dignified and serene, like a scene from a wuxia novel.
Crossing Sagong Ridge, we reached Waterfall Dragon Pool and Big Plate Rock, one of the highlights of Mount Taimu. Then came One-Line Sky, Yipianwa, Nine Carp Leaping Skyward, Sea-Viewing Plank Road, and other attractions, where the most breathtaking scenes of Mount Taimu unfold.
Fuding's Mount Taimu, dominated by granite peak cluster and egg-shaped rock landforms, is a natural 'museum of strange rocks' with 360 rock formations, each vivid and lifelike, bearing the marks of time.
'Deep caves' are a major feature of Mount Taimu. These rock caves are winding, deep, and varied in shape. Some have huge rocks wedged above, seemingly about to fall; others are narrow as a thread, allowing only one person to pass. The strange sights inside the caves are cool and comfortable. Such interesting 'rock caves' are not to be missed.
Among these caves, the narrowest is 'One-Line Sky.' It is said that if you don't crawl through One-Line Sky, you miss half the scenery.
One-Line Sky is a tilted fissure, geologically called a linear valley, formed by vertical joints affected by weathering. The cave is over 60 meters long and more than 40 meters high. Two vertical rock walls split apart with a gap less than a foot wide, revealing a sliver of sky. The narrow walls allow only one person to move slowly while pressing against them.
Entering requires side-shuffling, then bending over. Backpacks definitely cannot pass; it's extremely challenging. You must hold your breath to get through better.
Along the way, sometimes the sky is like a single line, sometimes hanging rocks seem about to fall. You sidle, crouch, lie, crawl, squeeze, bend, and lean... using every skill, going through a complete set of 'Mount Taimu aerobics' before you can see the bright sky again.
At noon, we had a bowl of plain noodles at the 'Yipianwa' Zen temple on the mountain, as if washing away all worldly dust.
Behind the temple is a large golden copper hall built on a cliff nearly a thousand meters high. It reportedly cost over 15 million yuan and used 150 tons of copper, truly magnificent.
When descending, we headed back toward the Mount Taimu scenic area. At this point, the Husband and Wife Peak transformed into Mother and Son Stone. Ascending the plank road, we could see the sea in the distance.
Just then, a dark cloud loomed, connecting Mount Taimu and the East China Sea, like the opening of a movie, magical and dreamlike.
After a sudden rainstorm, the sky cleared, and we arrived at another奇妙 gorge, 'Seven Star Cave.' Formed by water erosion along joints, it runs north-south, about 40 meters long, 20 meters high, with an average width of 95 centimeters.
The path rises slowly like an alley in a mountain town. Above the alley are seven round rocks that seem about to fall, looking up, they resemble seven stars dotted in a sliver of sky.
For the last part of Mount Taimu, we took the Sea-Viewing Plank Road. From the entrance of Hulu Cave to the exit of One-Line Sky, it stretches 1,000 meters, like a dragon winding through the peaks. This plank road leans against the mountain on one side and faces the sea on the other, winding with spectacular views. Along the way, geological features such as granite boulders, stone waterfalls, and rock veins are very typical, earning it the name 'Geological Gallery.'
Standing on the plank road, you can also overlook Qingchuan Bay and the Yushan Islands, experiencing the artistic conception of 'mountains expanding the sea, and sea intensifying the mountains.'
At night, we stayed at the nearby Lüxueya, which is not only a guesthouse but also has a large tea garden and a tea estate where you can rest and drink tea.
Fuding is also known as the 'Hometown of Chinese White Tea.'
As a national intermediate tea artist and a traditional culture enthusiast, one important thing in Fuding was to taste authentic Fuding white tea and feel the preciousness of white tea on this unique land.
The next morning, we went to the white tea base near the guesthouse to experience the joy of tea picking with the tea-picking girls.
Vast stretches of tea gardens roll endlessly, as far as the eye can see.
The green of distant mountains and the tea gardens seemed to bring a coolness to this summer, a treat for the eyes.
Picking a tender bud with one leaf and one heart, the light and faint fragrance of tea lingered at the tip of my nose.
Picking up the tea basket, weaving through clumps of tea trees against the backdrop of green tea gardens, it looked like an ink-green painting.
We carried a basket of tea leaves back to the Lüxueya tea estate, sitting quietly together to taste tea.
The owner of the tea estate brewed a pot of Baihao Yinzhen (Silver Needle). The aroma, color, and unique taste of Fuding white tea require slow appreciation to understand its differences.
Such quiet and elegant time felt like returning to the days over a decade ago when I was studying for my tea artist certification.
Leaving the tea estate, we headed to another treasure attraction in Fuding—Dayushan Island.
All romantic words cannot compare to 'I want to take you to see the sea.'
The sea, romantic, free, and full of deep feeling, seems like a born poet. No need for many words, it can make mountain-sea oaths.
This island, known as one of China's ten most beautiful islands, is beautiful and romantic, without excessive development. Its pristine state has the freshness and romance of Kenting, soft yet strong.
We first went to our accommodation to drop off luggage, then headed straight to an island tunnel connecting to the sea.
Passing through a long and winding tunnel, the end opened to a azure sea, very dreamy.
Out of the tunnel, we went to the most famous attraction on Dayushan Island: Big and Small Tian Lakes.
I had visited this island ten years ago when I was into photography, also in summer. I remembered the sky was especially blue, the grass especially green, and the whole island was natural and beautiful, love at first sight.
In the evening, we arrived at Big and Small Tian Lakes, following memories upward.
What's amazing about Dayushan Island is that it has two large freshwater lakes in the center. From the top of the mountain, you can see layered and interesting views of mountains, sea, and lakes: from far to near, the sea, high mountains, lakes, and meadows, very intriguing.
The azure sky connects with the sea; the rolling ten-thousand-acre meadow floats above the blue sea. Lakes, tea gardens, villages, horses, and sheep—for a moment, you might mistakenly think you've arrived in the pure Swiss countryside.
Unfortunately, the weather that day was mediocre, and the sunset was not particularly stunning.
Crossing the vast meadow, we reached the summit of Tian Lake. People walked through the lush grassland, using the prairie and sea as a backdrop to take beautiful photos. Or they found a quiet spot to gaze at the distant sea, letting the sea breeze lift their hair, enjoying the tranquil time.
In the evening, we returned to our guesthouse 'Sea Sky Lake Villa' for dinner and stayed overnight. There was a row of seats at the entrance where you could sit from sunrise to sunset without ever getting bored.
The next morning, we went to Big and Small Tian Lakes again to take photos. Today the colors of Tian Lake and the sea were completely different from yesterday—a deep blue. Under the sunlight, it looked especially elegant.
Then we went to the hill called 'Dongjiao Cape of Good Hope.' After climbing a flight of steps, we reached the viewing platform at the top.
From here, you can see the vast panorama of the Dayushan Peninsula, great for both landscape and portrait photography.
Not far down, there is a Moon Bay Beach, very beautiful and natural.
There is also a Twelve Constellations Guesthouse, each room named after a zodiac sign.
From the room windows, you can see the sea. The white buildings against the azure sea are stunning and well worth staying in.
Two days passed quickly, and it was time to leave the wonderful Yushan Island.
Our last stop was Niulanggang, a niche seaside attraction that rivals Sanya. It has a stunning photo spot; girls who love taking photos must not miss it.
This place has long attracted tourists with its 'blue sea and golden sand for a cool summer.' Nestled against the mountain and facing the sea, it looks across the water to Yushan Island.
Besides various entertainment facilities, a trendy glass slide, and most importantly, a tent camp that bursts with girly vibes, everything looks good in photos.
In the evening, direct sunlight fades early here. The long sandy beach comes with cool sea breezes, and the surrounding reefs have various shapes.
Many children and parents were barefoot on the beach, digging in the sand. Seeing their happy, satisfied faces, I thought it was also a great place for family trips!
There are two directions from the entrance: down to the beach, where the sand is very soft, and after 4 PM the sun is gone. Kids play in the sand, young ladies splash in the waves, and take beautiful photos—perfect. Upward leads to the tent camp with many Instagram-worthy spots; don't miss the great photo opportunities.
Along the coastal boardwalk, there is also a pink viewing pavilion suitable for photos. By the beach, there is a pile of reefs with a lighthouse, especially good for portraits.
Ticket price: 40 yuan per person. Most areas are accessible except for some amusement facilities.
