Life must have something you love.

What I love has always been heading to mountains and seas, traveling freely.

I increasingly feel that having interests, pursuits, and an open-minded attitude toward life is the only way to live without regret. And travel perfectly embodies a certain expression of experience.

I wonder if there are others like me who, as they age, love climbing mountains more.

I yearn to walk towards the mountains, seeking strength from nature, moving inward to a place of tranquility.

I have gradually come to understand the experience of unity of knowledge and action that mountaineering brings me—it is traditional, slow, and serene, yet also stylish, fast, and dynamic...

I also enjoy living by the sea, choosing a secluded and beautiful small island, working at sunrise and resting at sunset,远离信息爆炸, only focusing on the mountains, rivers, moon, and stars...

Below, remember to bookmark this four-day, three-night in-depth travel guide.

Fuding City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, administratively subordinate to Ningde City. Fuding is one of the birthplaces of Minyue and Ouyue cultures, with early introduction of Central Plains culture. Since the Qin and Han dynasties, it has been an important town between Fujian and Zhejiang. The profound cultures of Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, the unique She ethnic culture, the distinctive local culinary culture, and the revolutionary spirit of the old Eastern Fujian region together constitute the diverse cultural system of modern Fuding.

Fuding's sea area has a total of 81 islands of various sizes, with excellent natural resources. Fuding has beautiful mountains and rivers, including the World Geopark, National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction, National Scenic Area, National Natural Heritage Taimu Mountain, and Yushan Island, one of 'China's Ten Most Beautiful Sea Islands,' among many high-quality tourist attractions. It is rich in products such as Fuding white tea and Fuding betel nut taro, which are China Geographical Indication Certification Trademark products. It has been awarded titles such as 'Hometown of Chinese White Tea' and 'Hometown of Chinese Bass.' Fuding is also China's first 'Food Landmark City,' with endless mountain and sea delicacies.

Fuding is worth a special trip!

Taimu Mountain, the most beautiful mountain by the sea in China.

Taimu Mountain is located in Fuding City, Fujian Province, at the junction of Fujian and Zhejiang coastal areas. It stands majestically on the shore of the East China Sea, with mountains and sea相依. It is known as the 'Grand View of Mountains and Sea.' Legend has it that the immortals of the East China Sea gather here annually, earning it the nickname 'Fairy Capital on the Sea.'

Taimu Mountain Scenic Area features granite peaks, forests, and caves, gathering natural landscapes such as Taimu Mountain, Qingchuan Seaside, Fuyao Islands, and Jiuli Stream Waterfall, as well as humanistic tourism projects like She ethnic customs, Buddhist and Taoist traces, ancient houses, and tea culture experiences. Visitors can feel the spirit of 'mountains, seas, rivers, and islands' and appreciate the wonder of the 'World Geopark.'

Speaking of Taimu Mountain, you might think climbing is tiring? But you're wrong. Taimu Mountain is 'fun.' Why do I say that?

First, Taimu Mountain is not high. Its altitude is 917 meters, but cars can reach over 500 meters, meaning you only climb about 400 meters to the top. Still feel pressured?

Second, the main attractions of Taimu Mountain are concentrated between 500 and 700 meters. Along the way, you'll see 360 strange peaks and rocks, resembling people or objects, incredibly crafted by nature, keeping you too busy to complain about fatigue.

Third, Taimu Mountain has the most caves in China, with over 100 interconnected caves forming a maze. As you move through, you'll crouch, crawl, sidestep, and climb, making it fun and not tiring.

Fourth, Taimu Mountain faces the sea. Climbing high and looking at the East China Sea offers a rare and magnificent view that will undoubtedly make you feel enlightened and carefree.

Having explored it myself, I tell you Taimu Mountain is truly great!

The great Zen master Qingyuan Xingsi of the Song Dynasty once said: 'Thirty years ago, when I began to practice Zen, I saw mountains as mountains and rivers as rivers. Later, when I gained knowledge and entered the path, I saw mountains not as mountains and rivers not as rivers. Now, having found a place of rest, I still see mountains as mountains and rivers as rivers.' This gives the three realms of life: 'Seeing mountains as mountains, rivers as rivers; seeing mountains not as mountains, rivers not as rivers; seeing mountains still as mountains, rivers still as rivers.' I think this passage is very applicable to the changing perception of Taimu Mountain.

I came to Taimu Mountain with my parents when I was very young. Back then, ignorant and young, the process of climbing and seeing the mountain was simple and fun, the joy of traveling with family. Now, on my second visit, most childhood memories are blurred. Many places I've walked before feel like the first time. Coming to Taimu Mountain in my thirties, it's the state of 'seeing mountains not as mountains.' The process of crossing mountains has added many insights into life and philosophical thoughts.

Walking through Taimu Mountain, you can climb, view, and savor the mountain, allowing yourself more reflection. You can also collect cute little things to make your trip rich and interesting.

Below, I share the spots I collected at Taimu Mountain.

[Guoxing Temple Ruins]

The Guoxing Temple ruins have a beauty of ruin!

The temple was first built in the fourth year of the Qianfu era of the Tang Dynasty (877 AD). It was destroyed by fire during the Song and Yuan dynasties and underwent some restoration. Over a thousand years, it has experienced rise and fall but continues to exist today.

The Guoxing Temple scenic area mainly includes the Lengjia Pagoda, Guoxing Temple, Sagong Ridge, Longtan Lake, Three Peaks Standing Side by Side, and Fog Observation Peak. In the Jiawu year of the Chunyou era of the Song Dynasty (1244), it was burned down. On the ruins still stand seven stone pillars and scattered stone carvings, wells, and troughs. During archaeological excavations in 2000, the prototype of the temple's reconstruction in the Northern Song Dynasty was discovered, and the unearthed main hall sumeru base is extremely rare in China. The current temple building is modern.

The site is grand in scale, with clear layouts of halls, halls, pagodas, and tombs. The remains of architectural components are abundant, with exquisite workmanship and fine carvings. It is an important example of the site selection, layout, architectural group forms, and aesthetic taste of Buddhist temples in Fujian during the Song Dynasty.

[Sagong Ridge Trail]

The stone steps trail of Sagong Ridge is lined with green trees, giving a natural cool feeling. Walking the steps, you can take atmospheric mountain-style photos.

This stone step trail was built by the famous modern naval general Sa Zhenbing. In 1929, at the age of 70, he visited Taimu Mountain. Moved by its beauty and the difficulty of the mountain paths, he personally raised funds to build it. Sa Zhenbing adhered to the principle of 'moderation and doing good,' never arrogant when in power, never inferior when in a lower position, helping the poor and bringing blessings, earning him the title 'Living Buddha' from the people. 'Sagong Ridge' was named in his honor.

A small mountain pond with serene scenery. Located below Baolong Peak, the pond water is clear and elegant. Due to abundant rainfall on Taimu Mountain, rainwater collects from Baolong Peak into this depression, forming the pond. To the right front is the Yongcui Pavilion, named after the green waves of the surrounding mountains.

The Couple Peak is the iconic landscape of Taimu Mountain. Erosion by flowing water has created a crack in the peak. The two stone eggs at the top, one high and one low, look like a man and a woman embracing.

From different angles and directions, the Couple Peak looks very different!

[Yingxian Terrace Scenic Area]

The Yingxian Terrace Scenic Area is located behind Sagong Ridge.

People call Taimu Mountain the 'Fairy Capital on the Sea' because legend says the immortals of the East China Sea gather here every year. Yingxian Terrace is where the Taimu Goddess welcomes the immortals, and its elevation is exactly 666 meters. Yingxian Terrace is the best place to view the Taimu Mountain landscape, surrounded by various anthropomorphic landscapes. In front, towards Jiuli Peak, there are Couple Peak, Yingxian Peak, and Immortal Sawing Wood. To the right, towards Wulonggang, there is Immortal Playing Chess, Turtle and Snake Meeting, Golden Dog Gazing at Banyan, and Stone Guanyin. To the left, towards Hulu Cave, there is Golden Cat Catching Mouse, Zheng Wang Commanding Troops, Jade Hare Listening to the Tide, Squatting Monkey Looking at the Sea, and Qilin Roaring. Behind the small stone gate are Seven Star Cave and Ziyan Ridge, to the left are Lanxi Stream, Skyline Gorge, and One Tile, and below are Hulu Cave and General Cave.

[One Tile Temple]

One Tile Temple gets its name from a massive rock extending out like a tile. The temple was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. Here are the Taimu Goddess Pagoda, Hongxue Cave, the ancient Green Snow Bud tea tree, and the Taimu Ascension Stone.

As part of One Tile Temple, the suspended golden hall of One Tile is very impressive!

Built in 2011, the copper hall covers an area of 160 square meters, is 12 meters high, and uses over 150 tons of copper. The architecture imitates the Tang Dynasty style, with clever design, exquisite craftsmanship, and superb casting, creating the highest single-body suspended copper hall in China's architectural history, making it a classic artwork.

[Seaside Boardwalk]

Here, you can see the magnificent coastline, winding paths, strangely shaped rocks, and lush forests—all the most primitive and wild scenery...

Some cave openings are particularly low, requiring a low head to pass through. Others are very high, dozens of meters, exceptionally spectacular. Walking along, the continuous cliffs are vast and grand, as if hiding another world.

For those interested in geology, you can get a close look at the crystal cave weathering circles.

Why are there 'donut rings' of various sizes on the cliffs? These are formed by the condensation and crystallization of molten magma in crystal cave granite, creating crystal cave structures. Due to the accumulation of SiO2 around the caves, their hardness is greater than that of the surrounding rock, giving them strong resistance to weathering and erosion. Over long-term differential weathering, the rock around the caves gradually forms ring-shaped protrusions, creating weathering circles around the crystal caves.

Due to Taimu Mountain's special geological features, there are many ways to explore it. We've shared various check-in spots before, but this in-depth trip also included a special outdoor adventure—a cave exploration!

Taimu Mountain was formed after the late Yanshan movement from underground magma rising and intruding, dating back over 100 million years. The granite joints and structural faults of Taimu Mountain are particularly developed. In the west, there is a large east-west fault over 40 kilometers long. After multiple tectonic movements, a northeast fault gave rise to near-east-west and north-south X-type faults, superimposed on the vertical and horizontal primary joints of the granite, creating a grid-like crack network of gorges and stacked rock caves. Their steepness and depth are incomparable to karst caves. Over 100 caves have been discovered.

Here, peaks cluster, rocks pile up, caves layer, and mists spread. People often summarize its wonders with four words: steep peaks, strange rocks, deep caves, and misty mirages. 'Strange rocks and even stranger caves' is another major feature of Taimu Mountain. The deep crust of Taimu Mountain consists of granite rock collapses and boulder piles, forming intertwined caves. They are incredibly rich: large caves contain small caves, small caves connect to larger ones, caves within caves, all interconnected. Some extend upward to the sky, called Sky-Cave, while others go downward to the sea, called Sea-Cave. It's like being able to 'reach the sky and dive into the ocean.'

It is an inclined tension crack, geologically called a linear valley, developed from vertical joints affected by weathering.

Inside the gap, a thread of sky light appears. The narrow cave walls allow only one person to move slowly while hugging the wall. But the rock walls seem flexible enough to let anyone pass, regardless of size.

Along the way, sometimes the sky is like a thread, sometimes hanging rocks seem to be falling. You'll sidestep, crouch, lie down, crawl, squeeze, bow, and look up...

Inside the cave, it's very cool. Even in the hottest summer, standing at the cave entrance, a constant stream of cold air hits you from the crevices, refreshing your mind and body, relieving travel fatigue.

This cave is a gorge, eroded by water along joints. The path gently rises like an alley in a mountain city. Seven round stones hang precariously above the alley, looking up, like seven stars in a thread of sky.

Looking at the sky from inside the cave, these stones seem to twinkle. Especially at sunset or when heavy fog shrouds the mountain, the stones glow even brighter. Thus, people also call them 'Seven Star Lamps' or 'Big Dipper Facing Heaven.'

Fuding's white tea industry is booming, with many tea estates integrating tea planting, production, marketing, cultural tourism, and scientific research.

Currently, five mature tea estates in Fuding—Pinpinxiang, Green Snow Bud, Liumiao, Daqin, and Hexitang—are actively creating National 3A Tourist Attractions. Tea estate tourism allows people to experience the unique enjoyment of white tea while also appreciating the natural ecological beauty and achieving higher spiritual pleasure, meeting modern demands for green, healthy, and leisurely lifestyles.

As a northern woman, I was almost ignorant about tea plants and tea picking.

This time at the Green Snow Bud white tea base, seeing the mountains full of tea plants was a real eye-opener! The tea plants are green, winding wave after wave, layer upon layer; the mountains are green, rolling endlessly, filled with lush greenery. In an instant, all I saw was green! What a beautiful green, what a refreshing green, what a charming green.

Strolling through the boundless countryside fields, taking a deep breath, the fragrance of flowers and plants along the road wafts in—the scent of soil, the freshness of tender grass, the sweetness of fresh flowers!

The Green Snow Bud tea-picking girls had already picked up their baskets and put on their bamboo hats, ready to start a day's work!

The gazes of the tea-picking girls gently caress each tea plant, not missing a single晶莹 green leaf. Their fingertips are light and nimble, with graceful movements, the sweetness and elegance drifting.

I came from the north just for the tea.

Going to the high mountains, gently tapping the tea plants, waiting for the flowers to bloom, I would be happy even to be a tea-picking girl.

Honestly, my tea-picking skills are quite mediocre. Just posing for a photo was more than satisfying!

I'm not good at tea picking, but I know a bit about tea tasting. Drinking tea at the Green Snow Bud Mind-Nourishing Hall is the real deal.

The Mind-Nourishing Hall aims to provide tea lovers with a pure, tranquil, and serene natural tea, an transcendent tea, a quiet tea.

'Nurturing the Earth, Caring for Life,' from natural tea one can understand the way of nature. Green Snow Bud not only passes down the white tea in hand, but also the great love and broad-mindedness of the Taimu Goddess, as well as a lifestyle and ecological philosophy that emphasizes harmony between heaven, earth, and people.

Brewing, appreciating, smelling, drinking, and tasting tea... watching the tea master's smooth operations live is a feast for the eyes.

I also tried it myself, and I was very satisfied!

This Mind-Nourishing Hall is naturally and elegantly decorated, with a touch of camping style, making it very photogenic.

Secluded and beautiful small group of islands.

Among China's many small and beautiful destinations, I especially love Yushan Island. It is secluded and beautiful. Living here, watching sunrise and sunset, clouds gathering and dispersing, collecting waves, stars, and fairy-tale forests is comfortable and pleasant.

Yushan Island was once rated by 'Chinese National Geography' magazine as one of 'China's Ten Most Beautiful Sea Islands.' An island within the sea, with lakes on the island, is a major feature of Yushan Island.

An island, a unique beauty.

Fuyao Islands are an important part of the Ningde World Geopark Taimu Mountain Park and the Taimu Mountain National Scenic Area. Here, mountains, seas, lakes, and islands are connected, sea cliffs are varied, grassland scenery is charming, lake water is clear and rippling, sea areas are vast and rich, the climate is warm and pleasant, and the scenery is beautiful like a painting.

The name sounds quite wild, and so it is. Probably only locals know about this place.

It used to be a military base, and now the air-raid shelters and trenches remain.

The most stunning part is the view seen through the air-raid shelters, naturally framed.

Walking along an unnamed path, there are tall, dense reeds, full of wildness. It makes for great photos—just a quick snap can produce a cool, high-end shot.

Endless grass and trees, breathing freely here, you can feel the scent of grass and sea.

Further away, a lighthouse stands lonely on the coast, but unfortunately there is currently no path to it.

Tianhu Grassland, a place full of cinematic feel.

Here, there is a beautiful seaside. On clear days, the visible scenes are very healing, with a bit of a Japanese seaside feel. Photographers who like this style can arrange to take photos here.

At an elevation of 200 meters, there are three lakes of varying sizes. The lake water never dries up, water quality is sweet, and it's crystal clear. Sometimes clouds and mist hover above, like the Heavenly Jade Pool, hence the name Tianhu (Heavenly Lake). The larger Tianhu covers over 1,000 mu, the smaller one over 200 mu. The two lakes are separated by 500 meters, and the surrounding peaks form a shape like a basin (yu). The syllables yu and shan sound alike, so the island got its name Yushan.

The slopes around Tianhu are a vast grassland of tens of thousands of mu. The sea breeze blows, and cattle and sheep suddenly appear, creating a scene of 'wind blowing grass low revealing cattle and sheep,' earning the reputation of 'Southern Country Tianshan' and 'Eastern Sea Fairyland.'

Like a movie scene, the endless sea rolls foamy white waves, and the vast lush forests are full of green. This is the beauty of a seaside forest that words cannot describe.

The winding path at the top of the mountain is also great for portraits!

If you want to escape work and reality, or have a fresh and healing mini-holiday with family and friends, this might be the best choice.

There are other check-in spots on Yushan Island. If time permits, consider visiting them.

For example, Moon Bay, as its name suggests, looks like a crescent moon nestled between mountains and sea from afar.

Dongjiao Village is the largest fishing village on Yushan Island, with a village area of 3.56 square kilometers and over 100 boats of various sizes.

Compared to crowded attractions, many people prefer the quiet environment here. Apart from occasional sea fishing enthusiasts, daily life here is mostly repetitive.

Climbing to the Dongjiao viewing platform offers a unique charm.

The small village surrounded by mountains and sea, with only dozens of boats anchored in the harbor, looks like a static landscape painting.

A few years ago, accommodation on Yushan Island was very limited and average.

In recent years, several nice homestays have been established, giving visitors more options. I recommend the Bird and Fish Inn, a decent homestay with style. The owner, a new resident of Yushan Island, started the inn mainly to host their friends, and it is not fully open to the public.

The inn's courtyard is well-designed, with flagstone paths, white sand, low shrubs, and maple trees creating a layered, serene garden scene. Brewing a pot of tea and finding a comfortable spot, you can sit and gaze for a long time.

There are also cute little cats.

The common space has a tea table and a book nook. There are many books, and the layout is good, giving a homely feel. Chatting, drinking tea, and basking in the sun with a few friends is very pleasant.

Playful cats also accompany you.

The guest rooms are spacious, with windows opening to scenery, satisfying the desire for photos.

The sea at Taimu Mountain may not be the most beautiful in China, but it is certainly the most special. It has a sea area of 14,959.7 square kilometers, nearly 10 times the land area of the jurisdiction, with an extremely rugged coastline. The 81 islands of various sizes are like pearls bestowed by the Creator. Located in the middle of China's coastline, it has both the majesty and coldness of northern seas and the blue purity of southern seas.

At Niulanggang, you can hear the most beautiful symphony played by the sea and reefs; at Bubble Camp, you can experience what it's like to sleep by the sea.

There is also an exciting high-altitude seaside rafting, offering a unique perspective to see the sea! Remember to try it!

Camping has been extremely popular this year! So much so that it has reached Niulanggang!

The Bubble Camp on the coast is an outdoor camping site that combines sports, health, arts, humanities, and family fun. It aims to provide travelers with a lighter, more unrestrained lifestyle, offering a relaxed, happy, free, and natural way of life for passersby.

Walking up the hill, you can see many tents. The camping gear here is very cool, with various tent styles.

Ground tents with专用 picnic tables, beautiful tablecloths, lounge chairs, blankets, and colorful lights create a full atmosphere!

Stepping out of the tent, there are various photo spots. Just a quick snap gives a lazy vacation vibe!

Today, easy and joyful camping is gradually moving from a niche interest among young people to the mainstream. Escaping from housing, slowing down life, enjoying a private space with friends, putting down phones, gathering around barbecue grills and coffee pots—these provide a stress-free, sincere communication space for people living in the present.

In China, no other place is as suitable for camping as Bubble Camp! Living by the sea is most people's dream, right!

At dusk, I witnessed a huge sunset on the seaside of Niulanggang.

Sunset is one of nature's most beautiful scenes, especially by the sea. Watching the sunset quietly by the shimmering sea deeply moved me.

At that moment, the clouds in the sky displayed various colors: gold, fiery red, fish belly white... distinct layers, constantly changing, everything bathed in the glow.

The sun radiated brilliant light, and the coast was dyed golden.

Adults and children played on the coast, a truly refreshing evening.

However, amidst the endless mountains and sea, such sunset scenes occur almost every evening when it doesn't rain.

Holding the camera, my heart was filled with immense emotion. In the end, I truly envy the people living here. Taking satisfactory photos was enough.

Tips:

Currently, Niulanggang and Taimu Mountain have a joint ticket at a discounted price. Consider visiting both scenic areas.

The warmth of human life touches the heart most.

Visiting night markets is truly joyful. What is the night scene like in your city?

Is it the leisurely sunset, the bustling crowds, the fragrant smoke from cooking, or the lights waiting for family? Each city's night is condensed into its unique 'night market culture.'

The prosperity of a city's night lights reflects its economic development, social stability, and the well-being of its people—a state of rich nightlife.

Fuding's night market is no different. On the street of 'Old Fuding' where we ate, there were bustling local seafood shops, with a dazzling array of aquatic products on display, very impressive.

We later went to the Xixi Snack Food Street popular among locals, which was very lively. Many stalls, lots of good food. Cheap to eat, cheap to buy.

I recommend Meizi Time Coffee—very delicious, great taste! The owner is meticulous and dedicated to making coffee.

There are also many barbecue stalls on this street. Eating skewers and drinking beer on a hot summer day is so satisfying!

There is also a very popular photo spot where locals come to take pictures!

Honestly, before going to Fuding, I knew very little about this place...

After visiting, I fell in love with it! Unruffled and transcendent—that describes this hidden gem perfectly.

My trip to Fuding, close to mountains and sea, allowed me to see countless moving landscapes and meet many people with stories. For me, it was an interesting and memorable journey.

Thinking about it, in the context of cultural tourism integration, China's young travelers increasingly value the cultural experience behind travel. The small but beautiful Fuding is sure to become a sentimental destination for many young travelers.
