Taimu Mountain has a long history. As early as the Yellow Emperor period, Rong Chengzi, the Yellow Emperor's teacher and a Taoist priest, once practiced alchemy on Taimu Mountain. It is said that the stone well, stone tools, and stone tripod used for alchemy still remain. Although Taimu Mountain is not as famous as the Three Sacred Mountains and Five Great Mountains, in the Han Dynasty over 2,000 years ago, Emperor Wu of Han sent Dongfang Shuo to confer titles on famous mountains, and Taimu Mountain was named the foremost of the thirty-six famous mountains, with the inscription 'The Number One Mountain Under Heaven' carved on the cliff.
