The Whole Family Enjoys a Sky-High Trip, Celebrating Father’s Day with Dad

2020 has been a surreal start. Most of my friends haven’t traveled far for half a year. The head of our household really couldn’t hold it in any longer, so he decided to let our little 'monster' out of the cage for some activity, as a way to make up for not fulfilling his wish on Children’s Day. Actually, there’s a good option for traveling within Hong Kong itself!

Due to the pandemic, most major attractions are still closed. But there’s an observation deck high above Hong Kong that we’ve never visited despite living here so long! Today, let’s go check it out and see what’s worth doing at Hong Kong’s newest landmark.

We chose to go on the weekend of Father’s Day. The streets were quite crowded, with many people accompanying their fathers out to celebrate, much busier than usual. When we arrived at Sky100, there were visitor limits, so the number of tourists on site wasn’t too high, making the viewing comfortable and relatively safe. We could peacefully enjoy the beautiful scenery outside the window.

Overlooking Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour from here, the view is superb! Walking around, you see different faces of Hong Kong: dense skyscrapers and a sea-sky horizon. Seeing Hong Kong from another angle always reveals a different sight. Along the way, we took many photos to bring back to the elders at home, planning to bring them here someday to personally enjoy the Victoria Harbour view.

Besides the scenery, there are many special designs. For example, this tunnel: under the glass floor is a blue model of Hong Kong. At first glance, I thought I was really floating over Hong Kong—it startled me a bit!

And there’s an elevator with a countdown above, reaching the 100th floor in one minute. I once felt this sensation in the movie 'Chungking Express,' which shows how extraordinarily high it is!

Standing high, seeing far—with the telescopes here you can see even farther! Even the scenery across the sea is fully visible.

Then came the activity that kids love. In a corner of Sky100, there’s a DIY activity where children can make a gift for their dad by hand. I think it’s very fun! Kids who aren’t interested in the view can spend time here and have a great time.

Using paintbrushes and clay, they DIY a unique cup. My husband and I also guided him on the side. Completing this piece was the best gift for this Father’s Day!

The Sky100 gift shop has various souvenirs with Hong Kong characteristics. Dad loves the models, and I especially like the red minibus sign design that says 'Best Dad'—very fitting for the occasion!

As for food, there’s a restaurant called Cafe100. Having afternoon tea there is enough. We booked this set online in early June, and it was very reasonably priced. The afternoon tea platter was beautifully presented, and the food was okay, haha. Personally, I found it a bit too sweet, but the kid loves sweets and enjoyed it a lot. Children, we usually don’t let them eat too many snacks, but since it’s a rare outing, we made an exception! Most importantly, dining with this view of Victoria Harbour is a feast for the eyes. Perhaps after the typhoon, the weather turned mysteriously clear. It was so bright outside that you couldn’t open your eyes, so enjoying the travel time indoors was truly bliss!

I didn’t expect to spend a whole day at this observation deck without noticing. We also got to see the most beautiful sunset over Victoria Harbour. We stayed until nightfall before leaving—this ticket was really worth it! But in the end, I want to remind everyone: never let your guard down at any time. Wear your mask properly and protect yourself and your family—that’s the greatest happiness!
