Hong Kong Travel Diary Day 5
After saying goodbye to my dog, I searched on Airbnb for the nearest and cheapest place to stay.
It was already midnight, and I was exhausted, sleepy, and hungry.
Taking a cab in Hong Kong is almost as expensive as in Japan, so I had to find a place very close by to check in quickly.
When I arrived, I was a bit confused. The person who received me was a staff member who unlocked the door from a massage parlor.
It really was a massage parlor! The massage bed had a hole for your head—can you believe it?
No choice—since I wanted to save money, I just had to tough it out and sleep there.
The staff told me I had to leave very early the next day and not disrupt their daytime business.
Alright, as long as they could store my backpack for me—I really couldn't walk around carrying a big heavy bag; I'm not in military training.
Outside the window was a large shopping mall,
and it seemed like construction vehicles were working through the night.
Okay, it's already early morning. Time to sleep fast. No sleeping in today.
There was a huge golden Bauhinia flower, and behind it, cleaners were coming!
The forever-blooming Bauhinia

So many giant figurines!
I want to pocket them all and take them away!
Hey cat, please pull out the middle book so I can take a look.
Oh, young guys, are you about to raise the flag?
Wait a minute...
Is this some kind of happy planet?
Your pose is really... alluring...
My pockets aren't big enough. Let me grab a sack and haul them away!
Are you kicking that high just to mess with the panda on the right?
A Muslim red tide woman?
Trams, so cool!
So this is Times Square.
No wonder there's a big clock.
This mall is indeed tall.
In the comments on previous travel diaries, people asked:
1. What's it like visiting at different times?
For a city as far south as Hong Kong, it really depends on your preferred season.
If you love the intense summer and aren't afraid of the daytime heat, then June to August is definitely for you.
If you hate the heat and don't like the sun burning your skin, then spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November) might be good choices.
Because each season has its unique scenery, the key is that your body feels comfortable first, then the scenery becomes even more beautiful.
2. Which places are must-sees?
I think the beauty of travel is that it creates unique memories for each person.
There's nothing in the world that is absolutely necessary; it's only about whether I'm interested or like it.
So-called ranking lists and must-visit spots may not suit me.
Every morning, waking up in a different city, opening my eyes to a different ceiling—maybe I don't need to rush.
When I'm hungry, I go downstairs and find a nice little shop for breakfast. Then I come back, wash up, open the map, browse around, and go wherever I feel like.
Even yesterday's god cannot predict where you will go today.
3. How much does it cost?
Very sorry, I don't have the habit of keeping track of expenses. When traveling abroad, sometimes I have to use cash.
Without credit card statements and WeChat/Alipay records, I get even more confused.
Generally, I travel on a budget, and I take photos of all my receipts so you can check the prices for reference.
I also suggest you keep all receipts and documents for possible issues with purchased goods or services in the future, making it easier to claim your rights.
Prices in Hong Kong are relatively high. As I recall, accommodation costs in 2019 were about 200 per night.
Alright then, everyone.
See you next time with more memories!
