China Times, August 12 (Reporter Feng Ganyong) - To celebrate the 26th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, the 'Promoting Traditional Handicrafts - Huzhou Brush Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience and Exchange' event, themed 'Gathering Strength, Shining Together: Telling the Stories of Hong Kong and Huzhou Well', will be held on August 18-19, 2023 at the Hong Kong Brush Museum.
The Hong Kong Brush Museum is a museum dedicated to the exhibition, collection, restoration, education, and inheritance of brush-making craftsmanship, promoting traditional Chinese culture and art. The 'Promoting Traditional Handicrafts - Huzhou Brush Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience and Exchange' event at the Hong Kong Brush Museum will allow the public to watch wonderful performances by Huzhou brush masters from Huzhou Zhenlu Brush Company, as well as masters such as Zhang Hongni and Zhang Zhenyu from the Hong Kong Brush Museum. Attendees can also receive complimentary brushes and take photos with the masters.
There are 371 types of brushes in total. In Hong Kong, a brush combining technology and tradition was developed, adding a new type to the history of brushes. This is known as the 'Hong Kong Spirit', which changed the history of brush making.
Huzhou brushes are the finest among Chinese brushes. Many people use Huzhou brushes, but very few know how they are made. This time, to promote exchange in brush making between China and foreign countries, Zhejiang Huzhou Zhenlu Brush Company has come to Hong Kong to promote the craftsmanship of Huzhou brushes, allowing people to understand the entire process, which requires 72 steps to complete a single brush.
Through this exchange of brush-making handicraft culture and art, young people in Hong Kong will gain a new understanding and realize the profound depth of our motherland's culture. This will encourage young people to fall in love with writing Chinese characters and painting traditional Chinese paintings, enhance our patriotism, and love Hong Kong and China even more.
