Hong Kong's Hottest New Year Goods for 2024: Follow This List and You Won't Go Wrong
We've already stepped into 2024, and there's less than a month to the Lunar New Year. The festive atmosphere begins with stocking up on New Year goods. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, so Dragon-themed limited edition gift boxes and New Year gift boxes are definitely a must! You can refer to my New Year shopping list~
At Hong Kong's Daiso Department Store, 70 HKD for 2 pieces of Lindt chocolates, and at Hong Kong Yopoint, 69 HKD for 2 pieces, with multiple flavors available: assorted mix, milk filling, white chocolate filling, 60% dark chocolate, 70% dark chocolate, hazelnut, etc. This chocolate contains no cocoa butter substitutes. I finally achieved Lindt chocolate freedom during the New Year! Besides Lindt chocolates, there's a Ferrero Rocher 30-piece gift box for 79 HKD. Both chocolates are great choices for New Year gifting.
Hong Kong local brand Hong Kong Royal Yue has launched new Lunar New Year limited edition gift boxes this year. The New Year gift box series includes their popular products: original and Earl Grey butterfly pastries, original and coconut egg rolls, crispy cookies and crispy sticks, etc. I also bought salted egg yolk flavored golden New Year cake, which symbolizes rising step by step—it's chewy and delicious! If you want to buy single products, you can also choose the Eight-flavor Butterfly Pastry and Eight-flavor Crispy Cookies. One box lets you taste all their flavors. This brand is only available in Hong Kong, with stores in popular areas like Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay. Don't miss it!
Founded in 1901, Wang Rong Ji Fruit Shop has a history of over 100 years. Hong Kong locals love to buy dried fruit and preserved snacks there. The dried peach slices are sweet and sour—I could finish them in a day; the fruit is plump and sweet. How could the New Year be without preserved plums? Their preserved plum with tangerine peel has a strong tangerine peel flavor, with a lingering sweetness aftertaste. The preserved plum meat is sweet and sour, suitable for giving to elders, or eating one when feeling carsick—it makes you feel much better.
Mei Zhen Xiang, located at Yingguang Building, 2-6 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay, is highly recommended by locals for their dried pork and beef! Mei Zhen Xiang's meat jerky is tender and juicy. If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can buy the Supreme Dried Pork; if you like it drier, choose their new product, Applewood Smoked Classic BBQ Dried Pork. Spicy lovers must get the Chili Sliced BBQ Pork! The texture is rich, and the meat is still tender, just with an added spiciness! After selection, you can ask the staff to slice it.
At 418 Kwun Tong Road, Phase 5 of APM, the popcorn brand Garrett Popcorn from Chicago, USA, also has a new Spring Festival limited edition gift box this year. Made fresh daily, it's even better if you're lucky enough to get it right out of the oven! Packaging comes in cans and paper bags, with many flavors: original, butter, cheese, and Chicago mix. Special flavors include almond and macadamia nut. I highly recommend the caramel flavor—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, crunchy and fragrant! No matter the packaging, it stays crispy for several days!
Every time I come to Hong Kong, I always visit Lou Shang (Above). They have a wide variety of snacks, both affordable and expensive, including precious nourishing products like bird's nest and American ginseng. There are also freeze-dried fruits, nuts, and other snacks. This time, Lou Shang's new original roasted coconut chunks have a strong coconut flavor, and the peanut brittle is very crispy. This year, Lou Shang also launched Year of the Dragon pistachios. Each pistachio is plump and easy to shell, and each pack contains one with engraved words—a delightful surprise~
