A Ten-Thousand-Mile Coastal Journey: Shenzhen and Hong Kong
In late April, the Guangdong region entered the rainy season, with weather forecasts continuously issuing yellow warnings. I heard that floods had occurred in the Heyuan area. At our accommodation, Shanwei Poly Jinding Bay, it had been drizzling or raining intermittently for two days. Since our itinerary included a plan to go to Hong Kong, we wanted to avoid arriving during the May Day holiday, so we had to leave the Shanwei Poly Jinding Bay vacation apartment early. On the 23rd, we braved the rain and headed to Shenzhen. We encountered heavy rain several times along the way, and almost drove into Shenzhen with our hazard lights on. We quickly found a hotel near the Shenzhen North Railway Station and checked in.
It was my first time traveling independently to Hong Kong, and I had no experience. To be safe, I decided to go to Luohu Port in advance to check the situation. As soon as I took the subway, I was pleasantly surprised. In Shenzhen, anyone over 60 years old can ride for free with just their ID card. This benefit is unique nationwide! The inquiry at Luohu Port went well. The staff looked at our Hong Kong and Macau Travel Permits and said there was no problem. They also told me that there is a special channel for elderly travelers, which is very convenient.
After breakfast on the 24th, we checked out of the original hotel and drove to Fangchan Dasha on Renmin South Road, just one stop from Luohu Port. We found a hotel there and checked in, parking our car in the building's parking lot, which costs 30 yuan per day. I planned to leave the car there and travel independently to Hong Kong. We spent the day of the 24th in Shenzhen, mainly visiting Dongmen Commercial Street.
On the 25th, we got up early, had breakfast nearby, and took a bus from Renmin South to Luohu Port—only one stop away—so convenient! Staying at the hotel in Fangchan Dasha is a great choice for independent travelers going to Hong Kong (individual tourists).
We exited the Shenzhen Luohu Port, entered the Hong Kong Port, bought Hong Kong MTR tickets, and took the train to Mong Kok. Everything went smoothly. Before 9 a.m., we arrived at the New Style Hotel in Xinxing Mansion on Nathan Road, which we had booked on Ctrip. Once we found the location, we felt relieved. After greeting, we began our Hong Kong tour itinerary.
