High Line Park — A Unique Sky Garden
Built on a striking elevated railway, the lush High Line sky garden sits on the west side of Midtown Manhattan, complementing Hudson Yards. The railway was constructed in 1930 and was originally a freight line connecting the Meatpacking District to the Hudson River port at 34th Street. After its retirement in 1980, it was transformed into a distinctive sky garden corridor.
Winding along the former railway line to 30th Street on Manhattan's West Side, the High Line is about 2.4 kilometers long and about 9.1 meters above ground. The verdant landscaping and intersecting railway tracks create a unique scenery that is both green and free from traffic noise. A leisurely stroll along the park offers views of New York landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and the serene Hudson River.
