National Day holiday is coming! A one-day-one-night travel guide to Heyuan, worth collecting.

Heyuan is a small city in Guangdong, located in eastern Guangdong. With beautiful mountains and clear waters, climbing Yuewang Mountain and touring Wanlu Lake are what Heyuan locals are most proud of. Below, I'll share a one-day-one-night travel guide to Heyuan.

Wanlu Lake. At 7 a.m., we set off from Nanshan, Shenzhen, heading straight for the Xinfengjiang Reservoir in Heyuan, the world-famous "Wanlu Lake." We arrived at around 10 a.m. We climbed Bijia Mountain next to Wanlu Lake. The climb wasn't too difficult. At the summit, we could see the entire city of Heyuan—a breathtaking view. On the other side of the peak, we could also see Wanlu Lake surrounded by green mountains and clear waters. What a magnificent sight!

Around noon, close to lunchtime, we came down from the mountain and ate at a restaurant at the foot of the mountain. The meal focused on fish from Wanlu Lake. We had a hearty meal, and the taste was excellent. My principle when traveling is to eat well and try local specialties.

Yuewang Mountain. After lunch and a short rest, we drove to Yuewang Mountain in Guzhu Town, Jiangdong New District. We arrived at about 2 p.m. Since we had already researched Yuewang Mountain online and booked a room, we checked in at the front desk as soon as we arrived at the scenic area. We stayed there for the night. The rooms were unique buildings, very quiet, perfect for relaxing both body and mind.

After resting for over an hour, we started climbing the mountain around 4 p.m. This mountain is one of the few Danxia mountains in Guangdong besides Shaoguan's Danxia Mountain. It got its name because Zhao Tuo, the pioneer of Lingnan during the Qin dynasty and later the King of Nanyue, once climbed this mountain to survey the broader situation, leading to his decision to unify Lingnan and establish the Nanyue Kingdom. At the summit, you can see the Dongjiang River and the surrounding rolling hills—a truly spectacular view.

There are also ancient city wall ruins on the mountain, said to be left from the time when Zhao Tuo, the King of Nanyue, stationed troops here. On the way down, we took the "sky rafting". There was a lot of water splashing all over us. Fortunately, we wore raincoats, or we would have been soaked. The bumps and collisions along the way were quite thrilling.

In the evening, we ate Yuewang cuisine at a restaurant on the water. The food was good, authentic, and the fish were caught from the lake at the foot of the mountain. After dinner, we returned to our room to rest. The night was very quiet, with a gentle mountain breeze. We watched TV, sat on the balcony, and had a little tea and wine. It was really pleasant.

The next morning, we got up around 8 a.m. and headed back. Passing through Guzhu Town, we ate a bowl of authentic "Zijin Badao Soup" at a Badao Soup shop in the town. Since this area has always belonged to Zijin County, and Guzhu is a major town in Zijin, the Badao Soup here was quite authentic.
