#Two Days One Night at a Heyuan Homestay#
Every summer, we take our children on a trip. In the summer of 2021, my husband and I brought our kid to a homestay not far from the city. This time we gained a lot of experience and want to share with you.
At 9 a.m. on May 15, our family set off from downtown Heyuan. After nearly an hour's drive, we arrived at the Shuntian Homestay in Daping Village, Shuntian Town. First we checked in, then went to the nearby famous Ancient Tree Park. It's quite unique because the park is a whole cluster of ancient trees. A local auntie said that every October, the ground is covered with mi zhui, which are like small chestnuts. Since the trees are connected in a dense patch, it doesn't get sunny even at noon—a very comfortable feeling. After visiting the Ancient Tree Park, we walked to a nearby restaurant and ordered local specialties: steamed fish and pig trotters. The taste was quite good.
After lunch, we chose to rest at the homestay for a nap. Because of the child and the strong sun, we didn't leave until 3 p.m. to go to a nearby trendy campsite. This place was recommended by a car enthusiast friend. It has a stream and a lawn, and most importantly, it's not far from the homestay—only a 14-kilometer drive. When we arrived, we discovered a new campsite, an undeveloped place with beautiful scenery. It might be a bit secluded, but it's worth visiting. Here, we caught fish and shrimp with the child. On the open ground, we let the child experience our childhood outdoor activity (roasting sweet potatoes). Sharing the joy of childhood with our child—so simple, so happy...
For dinner, we chose to cook crawfish ourselves at the homestay. Although it was a bit tiring to do it ourselves while on a trip, it was very fulfilling. In the evening, we tasted the crawfish in the homestay's dining room. It was the first time I felt stuffed from eating crawfish. After dinner, after showering, we sat on the stools in front of the homestay and looked up at the starry sky. It was especially relaxing. You wouldn't believe it, but when I looked up, I saw the Big Dipper. Oh my god, it was the first time I saw it so clearly.
On the morning of May 16, after breakfast, we took the child for a drive around the area. The scenery along the nearby Yue-Gan Ancient Trail was particularly nice. I think if we had switched to cycling, we could have played longer. For lunch, we randomly found a restaurant to eat at, and it was okay. The two-day trip was quite relaxing. Friends who enjoy the outdoors or want to take their kids out might consider my two-day itinerary. (The pictures are a bit messy, so bear with them.)
