Jiaweiluo Snail Noodles: Backed by Industry Giants
The total sales revenue of the Liuzhou river snail rice noodle industry chain has exceeded 50 billion yuan. On January 19, according to the Liuzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, as of the end of 2021, the total sales revenue of the entire industry chain reached 50.16 billion yuan, of which the sales revenue of bagged snail noodles reached 15.197 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38.23%.
In 2014, with the gradual maturity of food production technologies such as rice noodle processing techniques, physical sterilization, and vacuum packaging, instant bagged snail noodles were launched on the market. In 2015, the Liuzhou market supervision department carried out special centralized rectification for snail noodle production, guiding standardized production behaviors, and bagged snail noodles have since embarked on a path of standardized corporate development.
From a local Liuzhou snack to a national delicacy, the breakout of snail noodles ultimately comes back to safety and taste. Bagged snail noodles, which have long achieved industrial standardized production, have repeatedly had hygiene and safety issues. Relying solely on government guidance and regulation is far from enough; corporate self-discipline has become the key to the long-term development of snail noodle brands. It is reported that among the over 1,200 enterprises related to the snail noodle industry in Liuzhou, more than 1,100 are individually-owned businesses, and only 31 enterprises are engaged in the food manufacturing industry. Among the 31 food manufacturing enterprises, only three have registered capital of more than 10 million yuan. The recognized leading enterprises in the industry have a daily production capacity of over 150,000 bags, the second tier 100,000–150,000 bags, and the third tier 50,000–100,000 bags, while most brands are still in the second and third tiers. In the hot snail noodle track, quality control is becoming increasingly important.
Guangxi Shanyuan Food Co., Ltd., the company behind Jiaweiluo, was established in September 2015. In April 2021, during an inspection of Liuzhou, leaders emphasized the need to promote high-quality development of the snail noodle specialty industry, strictly control quality and safety, and advance standardization and branding. In 2021, Liuzhou’s food safety inspection covered 172 subcategories, 173 products, and 2,303 testing parameters across the entire snail noodle industry chain, with a coverage rate of 90%, providing strong technical support for the high-quality development of the Liuzhou snail noodle industry.
In 2021, Shanyuan Food was recognized as a High-Tech Enterprise in Guangxi and became the first unit in the industry authorized to use the Liuzhou river snail "National Agricultural Product Geographical Indication". At the same time, Chairman Chen Sheng was honored with the title of "Liuzhou Snail Noodle Making Technique Inheritor".
