April in Liuzhou: Blossoms Everywhere, Encountering Pink Romance
When it comes to Liuzhou in Guangxi, many people immediately think of luosifen (snail rice noodles). But if you visit Liuzhou this season, you'll definitely be amazed by the bauhinia flowers here. April in Liuzhou marks the blooming season of bauhinia. This 'City of Flowers' lives up to its name—nearly 300,000 bauhinia trees drape the entire city in breathtaking beauty. Whether along the riverbanks, in the streets and alleys, or in quiet parks, you’ll see pale pink bauhinia flowers everywhere. If you’re not sure where to go for the blooms, be sure to read through my detailed guide. Now, let’s start with a preview!
Fenghuangling Bridge
Huanjiang Binshui Avenue
Wenhui Road and Liuhou Park
As an iconic landmark of Liuzhou, Fenghuangling Bridge has long been the city's calling card. It’s not only the most beautiful spot for night views in Liuzhou, but also one of the best destinations to admire bauhinia in spring. Fenghuangling Bridge, rising above a sea of bauhinia blossoms, is a bridge brimming with ethnic charm. The main bridge design draws on the unique Dong minority style of the Sanjiang Wind-Rain Bridge, with drum-tower-style pavilions atop each pier, highlighting ethnic culture while reflecting a modern touch. Fenghuangling Bridge starts from Yuejin Road in the west, spans the Liujiang River waterway, and reaches Donghuan Avenue in the east. The entire bridge route is 2.31 kilometers long, with the main bridge measuring 700 meters.
Leaving the antique charm of Fenghuangling Bridge, the stylish Baisha Bridge did not disappoint either. Baisha Bridge is currently the world's largest, highest-span, and most heavily steel-used asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge. Especially its main pylon with a spatially irregular shape presents a unique look and graceful curves. Baisha Bridge is a beloved 'internet sensation' bridge among locals and is also known as the 'Gateway to Liuzhou'! As night falls, Baisha Bridge’s nighttime scenery is equally stunning. Each hour brings its own unique beauty.
Longtan Park is only three kilometers from the city center. It's a large scenic area combining karst natural landscapes, southern Chinese ethnic minority culture, and subtropical karst plant scenery. It truly is a peaceful oasis amid the hustle and bustle. Transportation is very convenient; buses can reach it. Longtan Park is lush with verdant trees, encircled by mountains that form a natural barrier. It boasts twenty-four peaks with varied shapes, including Wolong Mountain, Beauty Peak, and Peacock Mountain. Visiting now, bauhinia flowers are at their peak—a casual snapshot yields a stunning landscape painting. The 'Longtan Wind-Rain Bridge' resting gently over Mirror Lake is a covered bridge built in imitation timber reinforced concrete, designed and constructed after the model of the Chengyang Wind-Rain Bridge in Sanjiang.
The Huanjiang Binshui Avenue in Liuzhou is also a great spot for flower viewing. There's a wetland park built by the government, and the surroundings are fantastic. Along the river, blooming bauhinia flowers line the entire stretch, and the boardwalk is long, allowing you to leisurely take in the beautiful scenery. From here you can also see Fenghuangling Bridge; it’s even more stunning from aerial photography.
The bauhinia at Malu Mountain Park are now in full bloom, with vast expanses of lawn. It's perfect for young ladies to come and snap Instagram-worthy photos. Nearby Xueyuan Road has also become a trendy photo spot in Liuzhou.
Panlong Mountain lies on the east bank of the Liujiang River. Its three peaks stretch across, rising steeply by the river, shaped like a coiling dragon—hence the park’s name. There are two pagodas on the mountain, echoing each other from afar. Below the mountain is Shuinan Road, another bauhinia photo hotspot. Local residents also love to pause and capture these heartwarming moments.
Putuoshan Road—this place is simply too beautiful! Perhaps because of the previous day’s rain, the ground is carpeted with bauhinia petals. It's like stepping into a fairy tale.
People's Square is in the city center and is probably the most accessible spot. Surrounded by towering buildings, this modern vibe offers a different flavor. After enjoying the natural landscapes and local life, why not also explore the downtown area? Right next to the square is Sanzhong Road, both sides completely planted with bauhinia flowers. Amid the hustle and bustle of traffic, there's a touch of pink romance.
On the eastern bank of the Liujiang River, the Civic Square has a central-axis feel when captured from above. The square is surrounded by blooming bauhinia. Every flower, grass, and tree on the square, with its well-spaced layout, is a miniature of the city’s beautiful life.
Finally, here are three more flower-viewing destinations: Wenhui Road has the oldest bauhinia trees, right along the roadside. Liuhou Park: Several of the oldest bauhinia trees, planted in 1964, carry a sense of historical charm, bestowing upon Liuzhou the unique beauty of 'Only This Bauhinia'. Wantang Road, as the city's earliest 'pilot street' for planting bauhinia, features robust and lush roadside trees. The road curves in an S-shape, so when viewed from afar, the flowers also form an S, making it Liuzhou's most distinctive bauhinia-viewing street.
If you hadn't come to Liuzhou, you really wouldn't know how beautiful its spring can be. Everything is bursting with life, and vitality is everywhere. The whole city, a sea of pink blooms, transforms into a romantic spectacle. If only I could come back and encounter this pink flower sea once more.
