Liuzhou is located in northern Guangxi, between Guilin and Nanning, at the center of the Hunan-Guangxi Corridor. Known historically as 'Dragon City,' it is also called 'Jug City' because its terrain is shaped by three rivers converging around it, as if cradling the city like a pot. Liuzhou has a history of over 2,100 years since its founding. The great Tang Dynasty literary master Liu Zongyuan once served as the prefect of Liuzhou.

Liuzhou is a city of industry and a city of stunning natural scenery. Some say that once you come to Liuzhou, you won't want to leave. That's because it is known as 'the industrial city with the most beautiful landscapes, and the scenic city with the strongest industry.'

On this trip to Liuzhou, I traversed its mountains and waters, listened to its stories, and savored its cuisine—each experience left me with wonderful memories. Once you visit Liuzhou, you'll find yourself falling in love with the city.

Below is my travel guide, covering attractions, food, and accommodation, which can serve as a reference for your trip to Liuzhou.

What impressed me most were the Panlongshan Waterfall and the Music Fountain ⛲.

The verse 'Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high, as if the Silver River fell from the azure sky' is no exaggeration for the Panlongshan Waterfall. It is Asia's largest artificial waterfall, stretching over 200 meters in length and more than 12 meters in height—the world's largest artificial waterfall complex, and it has even made it into the Guinness World Records. At night, illuminated by lights, the Panlongshan Waterfall looks like a natural landscape painting that leaves viewers mesmerized.

The Music Fountain, with jets spraying up to 100 meters high, is currently the world's largest floating lift fountain on a river. When the music starts, the water columns dance with the melodies, illuminated by colorful lights—from a distance, it's dreamy and romantic.

Music Fountain showtimes: Every day from Monday to Sunday, two performances at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, each lasting 15 minutes.

Along the hundred-mile Liujiang River, neon lights flicker on both banks, where modern buildings and ancient Confucian temples and city towers complement each other—all showcasing the charm of Liuzhou, the Dragon City.

Cruise time: 7:40 PM – 8:40 PM. Ticket: ¥89

2. Ma'anshan Park

For enjoying Liuzhou's night view, besides a river cruise, Ma'anshan Park is another highly recommended spot. Ma'anshan and Yufeng Mountain echo each other from east to west. It is one of the tallest peaks in downtown Liuzhou, named for its ancient, rugged rock formation that resembles a horse saddle.

Atop Ma'anshan, there's a glass viewing platform. Hiking up from the foot of the mountain takes about 20–30 minutes, with steps all the way, so it's quite a test of stamina. Alternatively, you can take the elevator for a fee (upward ¥20, downward ¥10; elevator stops operating at 4:00 PM). The panoramic view from the summit is spectacular—you can see the winding Liujiang River and the buildings on both banks. From sunset to nightfall, you can take in the entire cityscape of Liuzhou. The most unforgettable moment is when the city lights suddenly turn on; that instant fills your heart with excitement and you just want to shout out loud. (In summer, the lights come on around 7:45–8:00 PM; be sure to note the time if you want to capture this moment.)

Address: Ma'anshan Park, Pingshan Avenue, Yufeng District, Liuzhou, Guangxi

Elevator ticket: Upward ¥20, downward ¥10

Elevator closing time: Daily at 4:00 PM

3. Liuhou Park

In summer, Liuzhou is a city brimming with life and vitality. The streets are lined with lush greenery, and under the scorching sun, you can feel the fiery passion of Liuzhou.

For leisure-focused sightseeing in Liuzhou, Longtan Park is a top recommendation. Meanwhile, Liuhou Park was built to commemorate Liu Zongyuan, the great Tang literary master who once served as Liuzhou's prefect. It is one of Guangxi's most famous historical sites, rich in history, and is a cultural icon of Liuzhou.

The park is lush with vegetation and the air is fresh, with centuries-old trees reaching skyward. Right at the entrance gate stands a statue of Liu Zongyuan. Inside the park, you'll find historic relics such as Liuhou Shrine, Liu Zongyuan's Cenotaph, Luo Pond, and the Ganxiang Pavilion.

Additionally, the park features antique-style pavilions, clear waters with winding bridges, shaded pavilions, rockeries, long corridors, and waterside pavilions, creating a beautiful and pleasant landscape. It's a great place to enjoy a mix of lake and mountain scenery, relax, have fun, and learn about history.

Address: No. 1 Wantang Road, Liuzhou

4. Longtan Park

Another top leisure spot in Liuzhou is Longtan Park. Situated within the city, Longtan Park is a scenic area that combines karst natural landscapes with the ethnic charm of minority cultures and breathtaking natural beauty.

Inside the park, verdant woods thrive among encircling mountains that form a natural barrier. There are 24 peaks, including Crouching Tiger Hill, Beauty Peak, and Peacock Mountain, each with unique shapes. The most distinctive feature is the 'Longtan Wind and Rain Bridge' that serenely spans the Mirror Lake. It's a covered bridge built with imitation wood and reinforced concrete, modeled after the Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge in Sanjiang. The entire bridge features upturned eaves, looking grand and magnificent from afar.

Visiting Longtan Park not only allows you to admire the wondrous peaks and clear waters of the subtropical karst region, but once inside, the surrounding mountains and dense forests block out any view of outside buildings, letting you escape the urban bustle and find your own peace and quiet.

Address: No. 43 Longtan Road, Yufeng District, Liuzhou

5. Liuzhou Museum

If you want to understand a city's history, the museum is the best place to start. Liuzhou Museum is a comprehensive national-level key museum with advanced facilities and modern functions.

The museum is divided into five main areas: 'Liuzhou History and Culture Exhibition,' 'Liuzhou Ethnic Customs Exhibition,' 'Ancient Bronze Ware Exhibition,' 'Ancient Calligraphy and Painting Fan Exhibition,' and 'Ancient Ceramics Exhibition.' You can learn about the evolution of ancient life in the paleontology hall, then grasp a complete history of Liuzhou in the history hall, experience ethnic customs in the ethnic hall, understand past bronze smelting techniques in the bronze hall, and finally appreciate calligraphy and painting art in the fan painting hall. Every exhibition detail tells the story of the city's journey, which has been full of hardships yet...

Opening hours: 09:00–17:00 (closed on Mondays

6. Bailiandong Cave Science Museum

Liuzhou boasts profound historical and cultural heritage. Bailiandong Cave Science Museum is China's first comprehensive museum integrating cave scientific research, popular science, and tourism. It is also one of the must-visit Instagram-worthy spots in Liuzhou.

The museum features both outdoor and indoor exhibitions, covering Liuzhou's primitive culture, karst cave knowledge, biological specimen displays, and open-air exhibits of 'prehistoric flora and fauna.' It houses a large collection of treasures, including fossils of ancient humans and mammals.

The main cave is the ancient Bailian Cave, with a bizarre natural environment and an underground river that flows quietly year-round. In front of the cave lies a lake remnant, surrounded by mountains—a scene of exquisite beauty. Within the cave's sedimentary layers, cultural relics such as animal bone fossils, tooth fossils, stone tools, stone ornaments, and primitive sand-tempered pottery shards have been unearthed.

Bailiandong Museum is not only a treasure of Liuzhou but also a gem of China and the world. It showcases the rich and diverse culture of Liuzhou and is well worth a visit.

Address: No. 472 Liushi Road, Liuzhou

7. Yaobu Ancient Town

Yaobu Ancient Town is a historic town that enjoys a 'CBD' location in Liuzhou. Built along the river, the town features Huizhou-style architecture with an ancient and rustic charm.

The town is composed of the Ancient Port Commercial Street and the Dong Village Cultural Zone. The commercial area includes streets themed on Zhuang, Miao, and Yao ethnic cultures, as well as a waterfront leisure pedestrian street. Within the town, you'll find the Guangxi Gui Opera Museum, a traditional stage, the Guangxi Folk Museum, and Wenchang Pavilion.

In the Dong Village zone, there is a Drum Tower Square and clusters of Dong-style dwellings.

The best time to stroll through the ancient town is at night. Wander around, listen to street performers sing, sip a rich cup of coffee, or enjoy a local late-night snack. After a satisfying meal, go to the riverbank to feel the breeze and admire the antique buildings illuminated in the night—it's both relaxing and delightful.

Address: No. 9 Panlong Road, Yufeng District, Liuzhou

8. Zhongdu Ancient Town

Some ancient towns boast beautiful scenery, others rich history—but Zhongdu Ancient Town in Luzhai County of Liuzhou is a thousand-year-old town that has both culture and beauty.

If you haven't had your fill of nighttime ancient town beauty, you can also take a trip to Zhongdu Ancient Town in Luzhai County.

Zhongdu Ancient Town is located in Luzhai County, about 1.5 hours' drive from downtown Liuzhou. It is the cradle of Luzhai civilization, having taken shape as early as the Three Kingdoms period over 2,000 years ago.

The town's architecture features blue bricks, gray tiles, and wooden frames—simple and typical of olden times. Many well-preserved old shops, inn ruins, and ancient residences can be found here, such as Zhongdu Wu Temple, Yuedong Guild Hall, and the former residence of Zhong Xiujie. Walking through the alleys, you'll be immersed in a pervasive antique charm.

At the 'East Gate Ancient Banyan Pier,' the emerald-green Luo River flows quietly. You can see villagers playing in the water, washing clothes by the bank, and elderly folks chatting under century-old banyan trees—a scene reminiscent of a utopian life that stirs yearning in your heart.

Lingering in the ancient town, the slow passage of time becomes the most tranquil sensation. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle, Zhongdu Ancient Town is the perfect choice.

Address: Within Luzhai County, Liuzhou

9. Baipeng Lotus Garden

Spring has its flowers, summer its lotuses. Every summer is the season when lotuses bloom in full glory. Baipeng Lotus Garden, less than a 10-minute drive from Zhongdu Ancient Town, is now at the prime lotus-viewing period.

As the ancient poem goes, 'In the south we gather lotus blooms, with leaves so lush and green.' Spanning over a thousand mu, Baipeng Lotus Garden presents a breathtaking scene: beneath blue skies and white clouds in the distance, a village nearby, and from above, it looks like a landscape oil painting.

A summer breeze blows, and the moment you step into the lotus field, you're greeted by the fragrance of lotus. The flowers sway gracefully in the pond, dazzling under the sunlight.

Recommended time: Best for lotus viewing and photography is between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM or 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The light is better during these hours, and it's not too hot.

Clothing tips: Traditional Chinese attire, qipao, or outfits in fresh or bright colors all work well for photos. You may also bring props for shooting.

While admiring the lotuses, you certainly shouldn't miss the famous 'Lotus Banquet.' Dishes like lotus-scented chicken, lotus juice chicken soup, lotus seed juice, sweet and sour lotus root balls, and lotus tea can all be savored at the 'Hese Xiangzhan' inn.

Additionally, you can buy fresh lotus seed pods at the scenic area; please don't pick the flowers or pods.

Address: Xialun, Baipeng Town, Liujiang District

Travel time: About 1 hour by car from downtown

Parking: The scenic area has a parking lot, charged by the hour.

10. Luzhai Xiangqiao Karst National Geopark

Renowned for its geological wonders and combining karst landforms with ecological scenery, Luzhai Xiangqiao Karst National Geopark is located in Zhongdu Town, Luzhai County, Liuzhou.

The park boasts rich vegetation, including protected karst mountain flowers and ancient banyan trees over a thousand years old. It is characterized by 'peculiar bridges, extraordinary caves, secluded dells, perilous sinkholes, enchanting waters, and beautiful gorges.'

① Must-see spot—Xiangqiao Rock

There are two famous natural bridges in the park: one 'in the sky' and one over water. The most spectacular is Xiangqiao Rock, which spans high mountains on both sides of the gorge and blends seamlessly with the surroundings. It is hailed as China's most aesthetically valuable natural bridge.

② Must-see spot—Jiulong Cave

Jiulong Cave is a limestone cave with both water and dry sections. Stepping inside, you'll find a dim, mysterious world with countless stalactite formations that are truly awe-inspiring. The 'dragon, vine, sand, and pool' are the cave's four great wonders—well worth photographing.

③ Must-see spot—Sinkholes

The park contains sinkholes of varying sizes. Some are surrounded by emerald-green pools, others covered with lush underground forests, and all have steep cliffs around them. Viewing from above is a magnificent sight.

If you visit Liuzhou, I recommend coming here to enjoy the karst scenery and breathe happily in this natural oxygen bar.

Travel time: About 1.5 hours from the city center

Ticket: ¥45

Parking: Available, charged by the hour

11. Wuxing Commercial Pedestrian Street and Fengqinggang Night Market

'The flavors of the worldly hustle and bustle bring the most comfort to the ordinary soul.'

When traveling to a city, nothing lets you experience its local life and buzz better than its nightlife.

As night falls, Liuzhou seems to enter another world, unfolding extremely vibrant stories.

Wuxing Commercial Pedestrian Street

Wuxing Commercial Pedestrian Street, also known simply as 'Wuxing Street,' is Liuzhou's first commercial street. Located in the heart of the Wuxing business district in Chengzhong District, it's a comprehensive pedestrian street offering dining, entertainment, and shopping. It has become a symbol of Liuzhou's commercial prosperity and a must-visit for tourists.

Though similar pedestrian streets exist in every city, seeing people strolling leisurely and contentedly here gives you a sense of how high the happiness index is among Liuzhou residents.

Wuxing Street is a microcosm of Liuzhou, where food, culture, street life, and trends converge—brimming with an all-embracing bustle that has witnessed the growth of generations of Liuzhou locals.

Fengqinggang Night Market

Adjacent to Wuxing Pedestrian Street is Fengqinggang Night Market. Unlike the night vibe of Wuxing Street, here you'll find hundreds of stalls gathering delicacies from all over the country—from bubble tea to fried skewers, from barbecue to instant noodles—a wide variety of snacks appear before your eyes. The shouts of vendors, the chatter of diners, and the surging crowds create a lively symphony; the bustling atmosphere of a culinary world hits you instantly.

Amid this bustling scene, some laugh and drink at the night market or food stalls, while others catch a fleeting glance that drifts into the summer night breeze...

'The long lanes of the marketplace gather the hustle and bustle; spread them out, and it's the world of ordinary life.'

Take a walk in Liuzhou, explore the night market, and feel the lively yet simple atmosphere of local life.

12. SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun Base

The industries nurtured by Liuzhou's local culture are characterized above all by practicality, dexterity, and affordability. And the ultimate embodiment of this philosophy is undoubtedly Liuzhou's automobile industry, which proclaims, 'We make whatever the people need.'

Walking the streets of Liuzhou, you'll immediately feel its unique landscape as an automobile city. Everywhere you look, there are these small electric vehicles made by Baojun or Wuling—omnipresent, ubiquitous, and astonishing in their numbers!

Liuzhou has a long history of automobile manufacturing. At the SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun Base, I learned about the car production process and even test-drove the latest Wuling models. This visit gave me a deeper understanding of Wuling. If you're a Wuling fan, come check it out.

Address: Inside Liuzhou Automobile City (No. 8 Baojun Avenue, Yufeng District)

2. Luosifen Town Flight Camp (Note: The original numbering jumps here as per source text)

Luosifen Town Flight Camp is perched on the summit of Baile Bamboo Sea. With steady air currents and expansive views, it's particularly suitable for beginners to experience paragliding. The base is surrounded by rolling karst mountains, offering unique and beautiful scenery, with up to 280 flyable days a year.

You won't feel scared doing this because a professional instructor will accompany you—one instructor per flyer. Soaring through the sky like a joyful bird, letting the wind rush past, and floating in the air is truly magical. You can also use an action camera provided to capture the most beautiful moments. P.S. Recommended flight time: at sunset. Flying in the air while watching the sunset and overlooking the scenery below—that feeling of joy and bliss is something only those who try will know.

Address: Inside Luosifen Town

Ticket: ¥580 per hour (a graduation certificate is given at the end)

② Guangya Wonton

Just as good wine needs no bush, besides Luosifen, Guangya Wonton—which has been in Liuzhou for decades—is likewise loved and recommended by locals.

Guangya Wonton has many branches; the one I visited is on Jiefang South Road in the city center. The shop has a down-to-earth vibe, and the lady boss is very welcoming with great service. All wontons are freshly wrapped and cooked to order, with varieties like fresh pork, shrimp roe, mushroom, wood ear, and a mixed 'three delicacies' option. The wontons are served in a rich bone broth base, with smooth, thin skins and generous fillings—each bite is delicious. A bowl costs ¥9 and comes with 14 wontons; by the end, you'll be so full you'll need to hold the wall to walk!

In addition to wontons, their pan-fried dumplings are also handmade and tasty—worth a try.

Restaurant: Guangya Wonton

Address: No. 43 Jinyu Lane, Unit 1, 1-2, Jiefang South Road

Average cost per person: ¥11

Liuzhou has it all—industry, natural scenery, and delicious food—making it a truly attractive city. If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of big cities and seeking a peaceful, relaxing travel destination, then Liuzhou is a wonderful choice.
