Start of the New Year: Let's Go to Liuzhou for Snail Noodles
I had wanted to visit Liuzhou for a long time. When it comes to Luosifen, who wouldn't think of Liuzhou? Besides, I also wanted to see the beautiful scenery of Liuzhou. In October 2022, I had already made a travel plan for Liuzhou, but it was repeatedly postponed due to the mask issue. Finally, the restrictions were lifted, and I very "smoothly" caught COVID on the third day after the lifting. After recovering, I decisively started this trip.
For this trip, I specifically rented a car from a company called Hi. The car was booked a week in advance. Recently, many people are renting cars, so if you need to rent one, I strongly recommend booking early. This time we rented an Asian Lion, which was very new and in great condition. I still think that renting from a big company like this offers more assurance.
It was already noon when we arrived in Liuzhou. We picked up the car right at the station, which was very convenient. Originally, I planned to eat the very famous Fengzhang Luosifen nearby (I saw many people make it their first stop in Liuzhou). But since we were very hungry, we just found a random Luosifen shop nearby and had a meal. The taste was pretty good.
There are so many Luosifen shops in Liuzhou. Basically, it's hard to run into a bad one. After all, if the Luosifen were particularly terrible, it would be difficult to survive in such a competitive place (too many shops, so people have many choices).
We also went to a shop for dry-rice noodles. After eating, we went to the hotel. We rested for a while, then went to the Liuzhou Museum and the Industrial Museum in the afternoon. Note: These two museums are in different locations.
Actually, Liuzhou is a very famous industrial city, and its industries influence the whole country. A simple example: the double-sided needle toothpaste that many of us probably used as kids.
The Liuzhou Museum doesn't have a huge collection, but you can still learn about the city through some artifacts. What I liked most was the Liuzhou Industrial Museum. The Industrial Museum mainly displays modern items. Some companies may have declined now, but from the museum, we can still see records about them. In my opinion, this is the meaning of museums. Through these records, future generations have more opportunities to understand history.
Also, the Liuzhou Industrial Museum is a very good photo spot; it's great for pictures.
After the museum, we went to eat Luosifen again. There are also tons of places here. We went to Haoxiang Luosifen, another famous shop. I really liked their soup noodles, but my friend got the dry version.
The soup noodles were very rich, and the tofu puffs were surprisingly good. The key point is that here you can customize your own toppings, and the noodles are weighed by portion. Basically, a serving of Luosifen costs about 10 yuan. It was fantastic.
After finishing the Luosifen, we immediately went to Dongdi Pier. The highlight of Dongdi Pier is that you can take a water bus there, which is quite fun.
In Guangxi, there are so many industries based on mountains and rivers. Not to mention the well-known Yulong River rafting in Guilin, even Liuzhou has many similar activities.
The water bus is very good value. It passes by many scenic spots, so I think it's more like a tour to understand Liuzhou. For example, it passed Baisha Pier, East Gate of the Municipal Party Committee, Jinjiao Corner, East Gate, Xilai Temple, etc. The route was quite comprehensive.
Since we were on the last water bus, we happened to see a beautiful sunset. So I strongly recommend taking the bus at sunset; the scenery is wonderful—peaceful and romantic.
After getting off the bus, we drove to Ma'anshan Park. This is one of the most famous parks in Liuzhou. Since I had just recovered from COVID, I didn't dare to walk far, so I chose to take the cable car up. Note: You can buy group tickets here. You only need three people to form a group. If you don't have enough, you can ask people in line behind you. We found one person to join us.
The cable car prices vary: 20 yuan up, 10 yuan down. I thought there wouldn't be many people after COVID, but surprisingly, there were a lot. The entire observation deck was packed, making us quite nervous.
If you want to climb Ma'anshan Park, do it in the afternoon or evening. The main reason people climb is to see the city's night view. Liuzhou's night is really beautiful. We saw water, lights, and faintly visible mountains in the distance. Overlooking this scenery, the best part is seeing the two areas connected by mountains and water. Places surrounded by water always feel very lively.
After seeing the night view, we went down. Because there were so many people, the descent was slow. After coming down, we went to Feiluozhuang. Sure enough, tourism is recovering; this place required queuing, and we waited about half an hour.
Their dishes were rich and tasty. We ordered four dishes and spent 160 yuan in total. I think it was good value.
The next day, we woke up very early because we had gone to bed early the night before. Then we set off for Longtan Park. The scenery at Longtan Park is particularly beautiful. If you come to Liuzhou, you must visit this spot.
At the entrance, we already saw people lining up. Everything felt like recovery. You can buy tickets online in advance or at the gate.
Inside the park, we saw beautiful mountains and water. The temperature was relatively high, so the mountains were still lush green, with no sign of winter. The lake water was also very clear. Green reflections were clearly visible beneath the surface. The distant mountains stretched continuously, as if trying to split the sky into many pieces.
This area is great for photos. I suggest finding a local photographer in advance; then you can get many satisfying shots. Unfortunately, we were short on time and didn't plan ahead. Apart from taking pictures of each other, we also asked strangers to take a few for us, and we liked them too.
After leaving the park, we went to a restaurant called Jinlongzhai, a quite famous small eatery. The dishes were abundant. We had a very tasty rice dish. I'm not sure what it was exactly, but it had taro on top and duck meat below. It was my first time trying such a dish, and I really liked it.
We also had cold cucumber salad there, which was delicious as well.
