2024 National High-Tech Zone Employees’ Table Tennis Tournament Held in Liuzhou, Guangxi
On January 18, the 2024 National High-Tech Zone Employees’ Table Tennis Tournament kicked off at the Liuzhou High-Tech Zone in Guangxi, hosted by the National Employee Health Promotion Project Office together with the All-China Federation of Trade Unions’ directly affiliated China Worker International Travel Service, the National High-Tech Zone Trade Union Work Council, and the Liuzhou High-Tech Industrial Development Zone Management Committee. This marks the first national-level employee table tennis event organized by the high-tech zone union network.
The tournament was undertaken by the Liuzhou High-Tech Zone General Trade Union, with strong support from Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd., Liuzhou Yiyang Technology Co., Ltd., China Construction Science and Industry Corporation Ltd., Workers’ Daily Press, and China Workers Network.
At around 8 a.m., the opening ceremony took place at the Liuzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, drawing over 300 participants from more than 60 teams representing over 40 high-tech zones and enterprises nationwide. Leaders of the organizing bodies delivered remarks, followed by oaths from referee and athlete representatives. The event was officially launched with a joint ceremony by the dignitaries.
Yang Bin, Deputy Secretary of the Liuzhou Municipal Party Committee, addressed the tournament.
The two-day competition adopted a mixed-gender team format, with three players (two men and one woman) per match, consisting of four men’s singles and one women’s singles matches. There were no seeded teams or age categories; the format combined group round-robin and knockout stages until final rankings were determined. The tournament also served as a key activity to further implement the National Employee Health Promotion Project’s quality-of-life enhancement action, promote nationwide fitness, and improve workers’ physical well-being. Li Mujiang, Chairman of the Liuzhou High-Tech Zone General Trade Union, noted that the successful staging of this high-level event would greatly boost mass sports participation across the Liuzhou High-Tech Zone and the entire city, encouraging employees to head to table tennis halls and other sports venues after work to stay healthy and enjoy themselves, thereby enhancing their sense of fulfillment and happiness. After the event, the courts and facilities will be repurposed on site to establish the Liuzhou High-Tech Zone Table Tennis Demonstration Sports Center, which will be open free of charge three days a week for all employees, ensuring the public shares in the tournament’s legacy.
Wang Zongchang, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of China Worker International Travel Service under the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, addressed the tournament.

In recent years, the Liuzhou High-Tech Zone General Trade Union has actively responded to national fitness calls by vigorously developing cultural and sports programs for employees and improving their quality of life. Dozens of popular mass-participation activities—including table tennis, air volleyball, rope skipping, tug-of-war, and Tai Chi—are held annually, drawing over 100,000 participants. Through diverse and meaningful events, the union promotes the spirit of model workers, labor, and craftsmanship, expands the influence of grassroots sports, and attracts more employees to join the nationwide fitness movement, supporting the reform of the modern industrial workforce. The successful hosting of this national-level sports event will guide employees to exercise rationally, train scientifically, and keep active—gaining health and friendship—and lay a solid foundation for high-quality social and economic development in the region.
