On March 26 at 7 PM, when Beijing's Panjiayuan 'Ghost Market' opened for the first time, a steady stream of collectors and vintage curio enthusiasts arrived with flashlights. The 'Night Appreciation of Rare Treasures โ€“ Ghost Market Treasure Hunt' event will now be held regularly at the Panjiayuan Antique Market every Friday from 7 PM to 4 AM Saturday. This upgrade extends the market's opening hours.

With a history of nearly 30 years, Panjiayuan Market can trace its origins back to the 'Ghost Market'. In the mid-to-late 1980s, spontaneous stalls began appearing on a vacant plot of land along Jinsong South Road. By early 1992, there were already dozens of stalls. As the scale grew, the market shifted to the south side of Jinsong South Road, with nearly a hundred stalls forming the embryo of what would become Panjiayuan Market. Today, it's a new nighttime attraction in Beijing.

Covering an enormous 48,500 square meters on the southeast corner of Beijing's Third Ring Road, Panjiayuan Antique Market is the largest second-hand market in China. Shops and covered stalls are open year-round, offering antiques, calligraphy, paintings, scholars' four treasures (writing brush, ink stick, paper, and inkstone), porcelain, wooden furniture, and more. Over 3,000 stalls bring together vendors from 24 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China, representing over a dozen ethnic groups including Han and Hui.

The main merchandise includes jewelry, jade, antique-style furniture, scholars' treasures, ancient books and calligraphy, second-hand books, and daily necessities. It's a fantastic place for buying and appreciating antiques, bric-a-brac, crafts, collectibles, and decorative items. Inside the market, the Peking University Gemstone Appraisal Center can provide authoritative certificates or consultations on the spot for jewelry and jade. The market is hailed by the media as 'the largest second-hand market in China,' 'the largest and most comprehensive collectibles market in the country,' and 'the largest distribution center for folk arts and crafts in China.'
