A Fantastical Journey: Dreams Made Real at Universal Beijing Resort
In the realm of theme parks, Universal Studios' importance is unshakable—bringing iconic film themes to life, blending technology with immersive experiences, it captivates countless hearts and keeps them coming back for more. At last, in 2021, the Universal Beijing Resort landed in our capital, and I was lucky enough to preview the park early to bring you the freshest inside scoop. Enough chatter, let's dive straight into the goods—here comes the ultimate photo guide!
Fun丨Seven Wonderous Themed Lands Bursting with Joy
Entering Universal Beijing Resort, along the "Hollywood" CityWalk boulevard stand rows of famous landmark buildings, with towering palm trees radiating vibrant energy. Street-side encounters with "stars" halt visitors in their tracks—the goddess of millions twirls in a dance, her white dress swaying in the breeze. Don't forget to snap a photo!
The themed restaurants and shops on both sides abound; you can buy souvenirs on your way out, or have them held for pickup—just remember to collect them before you leave. (Note: Minion popcorn carts aren't available inside the shops, only at outdoor stalls.)
Lights, Camera, Action! On a storm-tossed sea unfolds a live spectacle of sound, light, and special effects. The attraction has two parts: the first is a pre-show area—move as far forward as you can when you enter because the real highlight is in the second section, which will absolutely dazzle you.
Inside this resplendent Chinese-style building, a Western fantasy extravaganza is underway—how could any fan of *How to Train Your Dragon* miss Universal's Globe Theatre? The dragon forms and movements are just like in the movies, a real-life version of *The Untrainable*.
The animated film *Despicable Me* has won over audiences of all ages. In Minion Land, "Super Silly Fun Land," "Despicable Me Minion Mayhem," "Sing On Tour," and "Minion Meet and Greet"—every show, every character melts your heart. No one can resist those adorably goofy Minions. The ubiquitous Minion figures light up your whole day; it's said over 100 Minions are hidden here—see if you can spot them all!
Remember the uplifting movie *Sing*? Witness how they let their extraordinary talents shine and feel the power of self-confidence. The skilled gorilla Johnny, the strong-willed pig mama Rosita with a passion for singing, the talented teenage rebel Ash finding her way, the shy but angel-voiced elephant Meena, and the koala Buster, who loves theatre more than life itself—here they stage a spectacular live show.
Minion Land is perfect for little ones, with gentle adventure rides suited to their age. And don't forget to grab a Minion ice cream bar.
In Transformers Base, "Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark" whizzes you back and forth in heart-pounding peril; "Bumblebee Boogie" turns Bumblebee into a DJ; the "Decepticoaster" launches with an electromagnetic burst, going 0–100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The instant weightlessness, shooting through seven high-speed turns—the whole ride is filled with screams.
At Transformers Base, the thrilling Decepticoaster is definitely the highlight; Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark requires 3D glasses; Bumblebee Boogie is much gentler, a good option to try with small children.
Jurassic World Isla Nublar, inspired by the film *Jurassic World*, kicks off an immersive prehistoric adventure. In "Raptor Encounter," get up close with a towering giant you can "tame" face-to-face.
What's it like to stand nose-to-nose with a raptor? And what if you were asked to tame one? At the Jurassic Camp, get up close with this fierce but clever creature. Even knowing it won't hurt me, the intimidating presence makes my heart race, and a sudden roar will have you screaming in an instant.
Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness—the scenes and architecture here are all just like in the movie. It's as if you're in both reality and the film. How did a roly-poly panda obsessed with eating become a kung fu master? This all-indoor dreamscape is brimming with Chinese elements that whisk you back in time. With one hand in a fist and the other open palm, you'll feel like asking, "Where to, hero?"
Built entirely indoors, Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness is warm in winter and cool in summer. The staff members you meet will cup one fist in the other hand and address you as "hero"—a charming touch.
In "WaterWorld," a realistic and breathtaking water battle unfolds—thrilling dives, firefights, and explosions, the kind of stunts only movie stuntmen can pull off, and here you're right in the thick of it. The pre-show warm-up fires up the audience to a fever pitch; have you ever seen one person command the cheers of over a hundred spectators at a theme park? Oh dear, I can't go into too much detail—the surprises only happen where you don't miss a thing.
Each row of seats is marked—the closer you are to the front, the wetter you'll get. Friends with precious camera gear, move to the back rows. Those who love the action and don't mind a splash should quickly scoot to the front—surprises await.
Inside the castle for *Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey*, a mysterious yet perilous aura lingers, while the snow-dusted roofs make the fortress dreamy and romantic. From the moment you step inside, every detail reminds you that a real magical world is right before you. The swooping and soaring *Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey* and *Flight of the Hippogriff* give you the sensation of flying on a broomstick.
Harry Potter fans must get their own wand here. On the ground in front of the shop windows, there's a clear spot to stand. Wave your wand, recite the incantation, and everything around you obeys your command.
When night falls, this world unveils another enchanting side, as the castle dons a glorious cloak of color. The spectacular nighttime light show illuminates Hogwarts Castle—add a famous Butterbeer (non-alcoholic), and it's perfection.
Butterbeer is non-alcoholic and comes in two varieties: with or without frozen slush. Wands need to be purchased separately; I recommend the interactive kind—only with this can you cast spells, and it works at Universal Studios parks worldwide.
Beyond the seven must-see themed lands, the entire Universal Beijing Resort bubbles with joy. Even on the curbsides, there are brilliant performances, plus the grand Universal Parade—singing, dancing, and all your favorite familiar faces in the procession, pushing the day's happiness to a crescendo with cheers.

Food丨Let Your Taste Buds Celebrate Too
Seven themed lands and two resort hotels house a total of 37 themed restaurants. Each establishment has its own "unique skills" tailored to its zone's character—stylish and packed with substance.
If you haven't had Mr. Ping's noodles, you haven't really been to the Valley of Peace. As every *Kung Fu Panda* fan knows, Mr. Ping is not only Po's adoptive father but also the master chef of the valley. Follow the aroma to a bowl of Po's signature noodles—chewy and delicious. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere lets you recharge mind and body before embarking on the next adventure.
Three Broomsticks Restaurant
Under the lamplight of the ancient buildings, everything feels even more mysterious—this is where the wizards of Hogsmeade Village come to dine. The restaurant serves authentic British fare: fragrant roast chicken, saucy pork ribs, salads, desserts, pumpkin juice, and more—all classic English dishes. And don't miss the renowned Butterbeer (non-alcoholic).
Stay丨Style Is the Highlight
Universal Beijing Resort is vast—so big that one day isn't enough for it all. Staying right here is naturally the best choice, and these two resort hotels are not to be missed.
"The Universal Studios Grand Hotel" reimagines early 20th-century cinema culture in a modern, chic way. The Spanish-style exterior sits right at the entrance of Universal Beijing Resort, giving you a head start into the park. Inside the classic Kung Fu Panda themed guest rooms, film elements are everywhere, from the bedside tables to the long table in Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop—all scenes recreated.
NUO Resort Hotel, blending exquisite Chinese classical imperial garden design, is a picturesque paradise. This is where I stayed; the rooms are spacious and bright, and I absolutely loved the custom Pu'er tea scent toiletries—pure luxury.
The Universal Studios Grand Hotel is steps from the park entrance, putting you blocks ahead of the crowds each day. Come experience the view of being first through the gates. You can walk back through the Grand Hotel to NUO Resort Hotel as well. Hotel parking is chargeable and much closer.
Universal CityWalk Beijing is lined with shop after shop, including many "first stores" nationwide or even globally! Mouthwatering Chinese eateries tempt you from one end of the street to the other, plus Asia's largest Peet's Coffee. Being a Universal Studios resort in China, naturally there's the famous Quanjude restaurant and Xifenglou, bringing flavors from north to south all along the CityWalk. Full of delightful shops and everything for eating, drinking, and fun—and you don't even need a ticket to enjoy it all. It's bound to become another favorite leisure destination for Beijing locals.
The hugely popular Chocolate Factory & Kitchen—a chocolate emporium and delectable dining experience—has opened a branch on Universal CityWalk Beijing, the second in the world and first in Asia. What a fantastic surprise. Its steampunk décor is truly unique in the dessert world, and the most enticing offerings are the wonderfully creative milkshakes and ingenious chocolate treats. Be sure to order a chocolate-flavored cola!
The cinema on Universal CityWalk Beijing is also impossible to overlook—the largest commercial IMAX laser theater in Beijing, with 11 screening halls and over 2,000 seats, plus a nonstop lineup of blockbuster films, a feast for the eyes. Hopefully many domestic premieres will be held here in the future!

An amusement park is not just for kids—it can be a paradise for adults, too. Universal Beijing Resort brings those beloved film worlds to life, making the dreams of countless movie fans come true. The joy and thrills aren't confined to the screen anymore; you can laugh and play with those classic memories and rediscover that moment of pure excitement.
