Celebrate Children’s Day at Tiger Mountain – Find Your Golden Childhood in the Gold Hills!
June 1 Children’s Day – I believe it’s a long-awaited day for every child, a day when they can receive beautifully prepared gifts from their parents, a blessing from a friend, or go on a family outing. Today, Old Li recommends a place where young and old can have a wonderful time together: Tiger Mountain! At first, you might think this is where tigers are raised – not at all. There are no tigers here, but there is a gold mine!
Tiger Mountain is an ecological golden mountain. Situated at the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains in Quyang County, Hebei Province, its main peak, Sanjianliang, rises over 1,100 meters above sea level and stretches in a line with the ancient Mount Hengshan, the Northern Sacred Mountain where ancient emperors held rituals. The mountain’s name comes from a giant boulder on its summit called Yihu (Righteous Tiger) by locals, hence 'Tiger Mountain'. The scenic area covers more than 30 square kilometers and is a national AAAA-rated attraction. Gold is born of water, and water nourishes gold. Tiger Mountain is rich in water resources, with pristine ecology, dense forests, and vegetation coverage over 90%. The air is exceptionally fresh, earning it the nickname 'nature’s oxygen bar' – a perfect place to escape smog, cleanse your lungs, and relax.
Walking along the 'Ten-Li Golden Water Promenade' fitness trail, the Golden Water River rushes down from above, and you tread stone slabs uphill, listening to the gurgling water, admiring the luxuriant woods on both sides, enjoying a unique foot massage, and breathing in the refreshing air. In this beautiful setting, you’ll instantly feel relaxed and enchanted. Just off the trail, there are all kinds of children’s play areas – 'Swing Joy Hub', goldfish pond fishing, tire pushing, and nostalgic games like hoop rolling, hopscotch, and shuttlecock kicking. The swings alone come in many varieties: single swings, rotating swings, parent-child swings, couple swings. Go ahead and tackle the 'Children’s Game Challenge', and let your family’s laughter echo across this sea of joy!
I especially recommend a few must-try activities: the Rainbow Slide, archery, the Military Museum Shooting Range, and Crazy Tank driving. These are more thrilling, more challenging, and a whole lot of fun! Both adults and kids can have a blast!
Tiger Mountain isn’t just about amusement – you can also let your children experience 'red culture'. The 'Jinchaji North Yue Resistance Area Exhibition Hall' and the 'Red Culture Exhibition Hall' are the most representative venues. The Jinchaji (Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei) Anti-Japanese Base Area was the first base area opened up by the Communist Party of China during the War of Resistance Against Japan, hailed by Chairman Mao as a 'model' among anti-Japanese base areas behind enemy lines. The North Yue area was part of this base area, named after the ancient Northern Mountain Hengshan. The exhibition hall houses many weapons, equipment, and daily-use items reflecting the heroic resistance of soldiers and civilians in North Yue. There are broadswords and mortars that performed miracles, along with stirring stories of loyalty and sacrifice. Listen as grandparents and parents share these tales, and look back together on those passionate, fiery years.
The Red Culture Exhibition Hall displays nearly a thousand red propaganda posters and over 1,000 volumes of documents, writings, and biographies. There are mugs, mirrors, wall clocks, kettles, cups, posters, badges, and porcelain plates printed with various quotations. Each item gleams with historical memories, transporting us back to that simple era. According to the scenic area, visitors to the Children’s Day event can even receive a red scarf!
This year’s Children’s Day is a bit special due to the pandemic, but as the new school term approaches, the extra-long holiday is coming to an end. For children who have been studying online at home every day, what better choice than to get outdoors, relax thoroughly, and experience red culture?
I can’t forget the laughter of childhood – may it stay forever young. I can’t forget those childhood tales – may the memories last forever. I hope that when you visit Tiger Mountain, you’ll feel time turn back, returning to your childhood, to your dreams, to your wildest fantasies, and continue that innocent, carefree childhood. May your heart remain childlike, always full of fantasy and hope for the future!
