A Flavor-Seeking Journey: Summer Night in Yandu Ancient City

When the sunset puts away its splendid afterglow, night gradually blankets the land. A nameless breeze comes from afar, gently carrying away the excess heat in the air.

Under the hazy light, Yandu Ancient City, nestled in a historic area, sheds its daytime sharpness and, amidst the glow of bright lanterns, reveals a unique nighttime charm.

Leisure is synonymous with this place. Strolling along bluestone streets, wandering among carved beams and painted rafters, you see rich heritage embedded in every brick and tile, with history passed down through architectural silhouettes conveying cultural memories; you also see smiling faces reflected in the dimming lights, joyful laughter building memories of happy living.

In such a scene, both tourists and locals can find threads of a joyful mood.

For such a charming ancient city, a thousand words would be less fitting than the phrase 'pleasing in color, fragrance, and taste'.

The first 'color' is glimpsed in the rows upon rows of pavilions: vermilion, sapphire blue, moxa green – these vivid hues become even more striking under the lights, adding a touch of tranquil brightness to the deep night.

The other kind flows through the bustling night market. It is the bright clothing of visitors; the flashing neon on balloons; the beautiful paintings on vendor stalls; and the colorful lights of the amusement park. Bit by bit, piece by piece, in every corner, they form Yandu Ancient City's lively night, dazzling the eyes and warming the heart.

Then 'fragrance' acts as a silent, invisible guide. As you wander, a whiff of cooking fire suddenly appears in the air, drifting from street corners, luring hungry stomachs and captivating the soul.

When the body honestly follows the scent's trail, weaving through the crowd until colorful banners stand out against the night sky, looking at the throngs of people, you realize the tempting aroma doesn't come from a single stall; it's the dazzling array of culinary delights on both sides, each vying for attention with their own fragrances.

Too much choice often leads to indecision. Driven by curiosity, you seek out the 'best of the day' for your appetite among the scents. Frying, stir-frying, braising, roasting, boiling—different cooking methods release different aromas, and the variety of flavors fully satisfies the desire to try everything.

After 'fragrance' naturally comes 'taste'. It's worth noting that even familiar foods take on a different flavor here. Take the northern-style grilled gluten, for instance. With convenient transportation nowadays, it can be found to some extent in southern cities as well, but compared to the dainty portions seen elsewhere, the ones here are decidedly more generous.

Amazed, you can't resist digging in. The flavor seems similar to what you remember, but perhaps under the hearty northern atmosphere and the antique surroundings of the ancient city, watching the cook brush on cumin, salt and other seasonings during the grilling, listening to the sizzle of oil, then taking a bite of the golden-brown grilled gluten, feeling the spicy, numbing, savory flavors burst on your tongue, it all takes on a unique charm that lingers long after.

Full and content, happiness fills your body and soul. Looking up at Yandu Ancient City veiled in lights, you can't help but take another step, seeking new surprises in the night.
