Baoding, located on the northern eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains, covers a large mountainous area. At the northernmost tip of the 800-li Taihang Range, there is a mountain with “three peaks, six platforms, nine valleys, and eighty-one pinnacles.” Its main ridge stretches over 7,000 meters, and its highest point, Foguang Peak, rises 2,096 meters above sea level. It is the dragon’s head where the northwestern part of the North China Plain uplifts. From its summit, you can gaze far at Langyashan and Wutaishan.

Situated on the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains, this mountain is renowned for its jagged, perilous peaks that resemble wolf teeth, hence the name Langyashan. It is famous for the heroic act of the five Eighth Route Army soldiers who jumped off a cliff to evade capture. Comprising 5 tuō (knolls) and 36 peaks, its western and northern faces are sheer cliffs of a thousand rèn, while the eastern and southern sides are slightly gentler.
