Chaoyang North Street in Baoding: A Place Worth Visiting at Night

Driving home at night past Chaoyang North Street, I suddenly realized how stunning Baoding is at night! Even though I frequently travel along Chaoyang Street during the day, it had been way too long since I'd been here after dark. Gazing at the brightly lit buildings, I had the momentary illusion that I was in Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou. Captivated by the enchanting nightscape, I simply stopped to take a closer look at this city, so familiar yet so unfamiliar. After a few steps, I couldn't resist pulling out my camera and snapping a picture.

Beyond the kaleidoscope of lights, the presence of high-end, well-known brands also testifies to Baoding's rapid development. If we just pause for a moment, we'd notice that many corners of this city are remarkably beautiful. I've never seen such oversized table lamps anywhere else; even on the street, they radiate a cozy, home-like warmth. The building light shows have become synonymous with Baoding itself — on major holidays, crowds of locals gather here specifically to watch the illuminations.

Of course, I've only ever known most of those brands by name and never actually stepped inside. I'm sure plenty of Baoding locals are just like me, but just like this gorgeous night scene, it's enough for us to simply admire from afar! The night views along Chaoyang Street are getting lovelier all the time. I've visited quite a few cities, and while Baoding may not be as bustling as some metropolises, it still boasts brilliantly lit nights. The shopping mall holds memories for older residents in western Baoding; although many newer, seemingly more upscale buildings have sprung up around it, the place still buzzes with foot traffic.

A city's greatness lies in its inclusiveness — take Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou, for instance: no matter what you do, you can always find your own niche. In Baoding, strolling the streets at night, you'll always stumble upon a little pocket of happiness. I remember coming to Baoding as a kid to get glasses; apart from the donkey meat huoshao, the most famous thing was the giant bread on Yuhua Road. Nowadays, in Baoding, you can find almost all the big-name brands from first- and second-tier cities. If you feel like garlic, you'll find garlic; if you want coffee, there's coffee.

The weather may be cold, but hearts stay warm. On a winter night, nothing beats a stick of sweet-and-sour tanghulu. Whether you're young or old, the moment you bring that tanghulu to your lips, happiness arrives! I remember going to the big market fair as a child, and there were always a few snacks I could never forget: cotton candy, tanghulu, liangpi, hele noodles, and more. These treats, which sound so humble now, once propped up all my childhood dreams. Nowadays, you can still find tanghulu on the city streets — a sweet taste of nostalgia.

We've grown increasingly accustomed to laziness these days — diligent only when scrolling on our phones, and utterly unmotivated otherwise. If you want to change things up, try heading out for an evening stroll. Soak in the dreamlike nightscape, listen to the city's buzz, and let yourself feel the genuine, down-to-earth pulse of daily life.

This is Chaoyang North Street in Baoding — a place definitely worth your while at night!
