Summer Water Fun Guide | Drifting Without a Paddle, It's All About the Waves at Chongqing Longhuxia!
Summer water play, winter skiing—each season has its own character, each time has its own way to play. With the blazing sun overhead, it's once again time to seek joy. Among all summer outings, drifting stands out for its unique style and thrilling experience, making it the undisputed champion of water activities.
Unwilling to be confined to an air-conditioned room by this scorching weather, I seized the tail end of July to try drifting at Banan Longhuxia. To my surprise, it brought me so many unexpected delights and let me feel that long-lost comfort hidden in the sweltering summer.
Set off from the city center, and you'll arrive at the scenic area's visitor center in just half an hour. Here you'll find ready-to-eat dishes, snacks, fast food, and drinks, plus items for sale like water guns and scoops, drifting shoes, waterproof bags, and more.
After getting your tickets ready, hop on the dedicated shuttle bus. A beautiful landscape unfolds before your eyes: crystal-clear streams, lush green forests, and winding roads all the way. You can't help but immerse yourself in this gift of nature, finding a rare moment of cool tranquility amid the summer bustle.
Red, yellow, and blue drifting rafts—sit down, and brr, it's ice cold! Brace yourself because there's no time to catch your breath.
The raft hurtles through over 1,000 meters of continuous drops, rising and falling over a total descent of about 180 meters, bouncing over pits shallow and deep, splashing up waves big and small. Grip the handles, move with the raft's rhythm, and amid screams and rushing water, set sail and ride the waves.
Noisy! Boisterous! The lower stretch is the heart of the 'family drifting' zone, a paradise for kids. No narrow channels, no rapid currents—just swathes of bamboo groves and beautiful scenery. Under safe conditions, lead your little ones in a water 'attack'!
Here, it doesn't matter if you know anyone or not—just grab a water gun and spray away! Use basins, scoops, any way you like, with no fixed teams, just like the Water-Splashing Festival. Focus on maximum firepower. Everyone shares joy through water fights, and when tired, you can dock and recharge at the snack stalls along the shore.
Drifting at Longhuxia: no paddles needed—nature is the engine, just let loose and have fun!
You can ride in colorful rafts, experiencing the thrills of countless sharp bends and treacherous rapids;
you can also soak in the tranquility of the lush canyon on both sides, listening to laughter and joy;
or, in the heat of water battles, find a silent understanding with strangers;
sample authentic local snacks bursting with color and aroma at nearby farm stalls, and feel the warmth of the locals.
It's worth noting that Longhuxia drifting is the closest drifting spot to Chongqing's main urban area, located in beautiful Anlan Town. A verse from ancient poetry, 'Distant mountains range upon range, bamboo and trees nearby shrouded in lush green', perfectly captures its landscape.
Drive there, and it's about half an hour from the city center. Drifting the whole course takes around one and a half hours. This level of fun gives you a thorough, satisfying thrill without draining your energy—after drifting, you'll feel light and full of vitality!
In my view, drifting isn't just about splashing in the water with friends; it's about the scenery along the way, the new encounters, and the perfectly timed meetings. Bring your anticipation and collide head-on with the cool and comfortable drifting at Banan Longhuxia!

5. Sandals: If you forget them, you can rent a pair at the visitor center for 5 yuan.
1. Self-driving: From Chongqing urban area—Jieshi Interchange—G75 Expressway (Chongqing-Guizhou Expressway), exit at Yipin/Anlan, turn right at the intersection and drive 3.5 km to Longhuxia Visitor Center.
