Emirates, Soaring with Me Over South America, Enjoying a Luxurious Travel Experience
As a serious travel enthusiast, I spent over half a year planning this South America trip.
For the airline, my first choice was Emirates.
With other airlines, you need to apply for visas for different destinations, but Dubai not only offers visa-free entry, but also has a wide variety of entertainment options, making it a top destination for travelers.
So on this journey, I experienced both Middle Eastern culture and South American charm.
I split the nearly 40-hour flight into two segments: from Shanghai to Dubai, staying for half a month, then flying to São Paulo, Brazil.
The return trip was the same: from Rio de Janeiro to Dubai, staying for a few more days, then back to Shanghai.
This way, I not only had enough time to explore an extra country, but also could adjust to the time zone difference comfortably.
I flew business class with Emirates for the entire trip, thoroughly enjoying their signature services.
* Airport Transfer Experience
Before each leg of the journey, I could book airport transfers on the official website. The Shanghai segment used a Mercedes-Benz, Dubai a BMW, São Paulo pickup was a Jeep, and Rio drop-off was a Chevrolet—all black with red 'Emirates' lettering. The attentive drivers saw me off from a city I was getting to know and welcomed me in a new city, waiting for my arrival.
On this trip, I experienced two aircraft types: the Boeing 777 and the A380. Although the 777's fully flat seat already met my comfort needs for long-haul travel, the 'giant of the skies' A380 still brought me many surprises.
From Dubai to São Paulo, I flew on the A380, currently the world's largest passenger aircraft with the highest capacity, a double-decker plane.
Business class was located on the upper deck, with a 1-2-1 staggered layout providing each passenger with an independent aisle access.
The seats could recline fully flat, and even the aircraft windows could be opened and closed automatically with a single button.
The 23-inch high-definition LCD screen connected to Emirates' award-winning ice in-flight entertainment system, offering 6,500 channels, making it easy to pass the 15-hour transoceanic flight.
Additionally, the airline arranged for me to experience the first-class onboard spa shower on the A380. I also peeked into first class—it was sparkling, as if I were sleeping in a princess's dream.
** Dining Experience
Emirates' meals have always been a favorite among passengers. The menu is updated monthly by Emirates' head chef, featuring seasonal ingredients from Dubai. Some salad vegetables come from Emirates' vertical farm, fresh, organic, and nutritious.
Business class passengers not only have a dedicated menu to choose from but also a special wine list to enjoy throughout the flight.
This includes popular Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot champagnes, award-winning wines from France, and aged port wines.
* A380 Onboard Lounge
Passengers flying on Emirates' A380 can not only enjoy drinks from the wine list at their seats but also visit the onboard lounge located at the rear of business class. From XO to vodka, from Chivas to gin…
The lounge features a horseshoe-shaped bar, inspired by the interior of a private yacht.
Specially trained flight attendants doubling as bartenders can mix custom cocktails according to passengers' preferences.
In addition to selected hot and cold snacks, there are casual banquette seats and a 55-inch LCD TV, making this area a small in-flight social space. Some people work on laptops, others chat about travel gossip, and of course, some come to stretch after sitting too long.
* Impressive In-Flight Details
Flying Emirates business class, you can experience high-quality noise-canceling headphones, comfortable down duvets and pillows. After takeoff, the flight attendants offer turndown service.
Beyond that, you receive many free and collectible 'gifts'.
For example, the Bulgari collaboration Emirates amenity kit, available in men's and women's versions. The men's kit includes shaving gear and men's perfume, while the women's has a round folding mirror and women's perfume, including lip balm and facial cream—all from Bulgari, richly fragrant.
There are also modal pajamas and pants, an eye mask, and slippers—comfortable, soft, and stylish. The flight attendants said they are warm in winter and cool in summer, and not out of place to wear outside.
The most memorable moment was on the flight from Rio to Dubai, when a flight attendant took a Polaroid photo with me and placed it in a specially designed frame.
The frame read: 'Let your dream fly high!'
Such a wonderful blessing. I will place it among my awards on my desk, commemorating the beautiful journey of life.
* Lounge Experience
Beyond the surprising in-flight experience, Emirates' business class lounges are also commendable, allowing every passenger to relax and board with a carefree mindset.
On this trip, I mainly experienced the lounges in Shanghai and Dubai.
The Shanghai lounge covers 860 square meters and can accommodate nearly 200 passengers.
The Dubai lounges are even more luxurious: Terminal 3 has three lounges dedicated to business class passengers, each connected to check-in counters by walkways, with elevators directly to the boarding gate—no extra steps needed!
The exquisite business class lounges offer buffet meals for all dayparts, a full champagne bar service, personal workstations, free Wi-Fi, plasma TVs, and quiet sleep areas.
As for me, I always eat to my fill before boarding, then take a shower in the restroom, and wait for the boarding announcement while clean and comfortable, sipping Moët & Chandon champagne.
Now that this journey has ended, Emirates has become like family to me. In the future journeys of my life, whenever I encounter Emirates, I will involuntarily want to take a photo with it.
Because I know that in the trips ahead, it will often accompany me, carrying me to unfamiliar worlds with its familiar warmth.
