Hey Kevin, Let's Go to the Forest to See the Sea and Count Stars
I often say I'm a travel lover who hasn't yet hit the road. Last year, I enrolled in Daren Academy and became a special travel writer for 'I'm Daren'. To this day, the certificate still sits on my desk, and every day we greet each other!
Ding-dong! Xiaoda delivered the first big surprise of 2020!
I got a chance to experience Forest Sea Hot Spring Resort for two days and one night in April—a pleasant surprise indeed!
For the past decade, I've abandoned everything for the daily grind. But from now on, I might just leave that all behind for a better life.
Kevin had been cooped up at home for 96 days! The moment I got this surprise, I said to him, 'Hey, Kevin, Mommy's taking you to the forest to see the sea and count stars.' As a fourth-grader with good language skills, he looked at me puzzled and asked, 'Are you sure you didn't misspeak? Is there really a sea in the forest?' I teased him back, 'Mmm, I'm absolutely certain...'
Without traveling, you'll never know how wonderful the world is. While we're young, go as far as you can...
We live in Xintang. Forest Sea Hot Spring Resort is in Paitan Town, Zengcheng District, Guangzhou. It's a 1-hour-6-minute drive to get there. You could say I went from the southernmost tip of Zengcheng to the northernmost part. I often go to Paitan, and I've passed by Forest Sea before. The famous Baishuizhai, with its 428.5-meter drop, China's tallest man-made waterfall, Baishuixian Waterfall, is also there. It's a national AAAA scenic area. The forest coverage in the town reaches 87%, so Paitan is known as the city's ecological green lung. When I'm feeling down or stressed, I sometimes drive to the mountaintop. Not to shout, but to stand high up, close my eyes, spread my arms, and take a deep breath for that relaxing feeling—a place I've long loved...
After getting off the highway, within minutes you can see Forest Sea Hot Spring Resort on the right side of the road. The hotel's front plaza directly faces Baishuixian Waterfall. At the entrance, there's a circular fountain. After a temperature check, you enter the hotel grounds. The Forest Sea hotel, built in a Southeast Asian style, comes into view. I've passed by so many times, and now I finally got to experience it deeply.
The hotel has 341 luxurious rooms, each with an indoor hot spring bath and connected to garden pools. Surrounded by lakes and mountains, you'll feel like you're in a forest but also by the sea.
Before coming, I had seen the hotel's promotion and discussed it with Kevin along the way. Perhaps every boy has a blue ocean dream, so this time he chose the ocean-themed family room!
In Forest Sea, there are no room cards—only a universal wristband. Instead of inserting a card, you just place the wristband, and the whole room lights up! The wristband works throughout the hotel. We wore it to roam between restaurants, hot spring pools, and our room...
We didn't experience the forest treehouse or the starry-sky family rooms this time, but I sneaked in to take some photos to share. In the treehouse room, you can slide down a slide right in your room; in the starry-sky room, you count stars. The moment you enter, the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' comes to mind. Each has its own charm. What touched me is that the hotel not only has a unique and novel style but also pays great attention to children's feelings in its design! Every child who comes here for a holiday feels like a prince or princess. When the kids are happy, parents naturally feel it's all worth it!
Besides the family rooms, I also took pictures of other guest rooms. Every room feels so homely, with lights perfectly placed. There's a private hot spring pool and a courtyard—spacious and more private!
Beyond these room types, there are standalone villas too!
...How could such a beautiful place lack good food? After checking in, Kevin and I went to the Western restaurant for afternoon tea. The restaurant is on the right side of the lobby. Come, bring your insatiable appetite and follow us!
...What can't desserts cure? Slow down and enjoy the sunlight outside the window. It feels so good, just because it's you!
A mix of Chinese and French pastries enriched our entire afternoon.
In the afternoon, besides tea, the hotel offered family picking activities—the purple romance of picking eggplants—and lake boating!
This was probably Kevin's first encounter with an eggplant plant. He was so excited and picked a whole basket of eggplants. The hotel is still in its soft opening phase, and the rapeseed field isn't very lush yet, so the common light purple eggplant flowers and deep purple eggplants stand out more. But I'm sure next spring, when we return, there will be the most enchanting scene: golden rapeseed blossoms, butterflies fluttering, bees busy collecting nectar, and you, beauty-loving you, wanting to capture your best self on camera!
Yachts offshore, azure lake water.
'Eating' in Guangzhou—that saying couldn't be truer! The evening's Shikuang Lake eco-fish banquet featured organic vegetables from nearby farms, and the fish were raised by the hotel in Shikuang Lake. The meat was fresh and tender! A true feast for the foodie in you.
Appetizer. Can you guess the name of the dish in the third picture? It's called 'Purple Qi from the East' (a poetic name).
Essence. Signature dishes.
...Living well, eating well, playing well—that's what a real trip is all about.
Next, let me take you to relax! The hot springs are the hotel's biggest feature. Some pools look like bird nests, there are indoor pools and swimming pools, and there's also a Forest Sea Water Park under construction, along with RV glamour and more. You don't even need to leave the hotel—enjoy food, drinks, and fun all in one place!
After wining and dining, head to experience Forest Sea's pure, undiluted, non-recycled natural rare hot spring water, and your mood instantly lightens...
Oh, and there's a KTV too, but I had to help Kevin with his homework, so I didn't join.
Forest Sea Hot Spring Resort is surrounded by pristine forest, making the air incredibly fresh, like a paradise. From every direction, you can gaze at Baishuixian Waterfall, enjoying gentle breezes and light clouds. Every morning, you wake up together with the forest...
Kevin said this noodle dish was crazy delicious! He asked me to give the noodle-chef uncle a five-star review! Could he have another bowl? So I asked the uncle for an extra bowl... Tsk tsk... the way he ate showed it was truly tasty!
After breakfast, we strolled around the hotel area and also visited Baishuizhai Scenic Area, less than 2 kilometers away!
Baishuizhai, a light visit
Small waterfalls can be seen everywhere at Baishuizhai
Parting is always bittersweet.
I'm sure I'll come back again.
Forest Sea, a paradise to empty your mind,
with all the delicious dishes I love.
Knowing that after lunch,
everyone would leave,
we just wanted to savor every bite,
afraid that time would fly too fast.
Truth is, time keeps moving as always,
we simply didn't want to go.
...ending...
Memories really can't be replaced by any style of writing!
#A secret hideaway in the Pearl River Delta#, well worth exploring!
Here, you'll even feel the air is sweet...
