As a child, I longed to grow up quickly, dreaming of adult 'freedom' to do all the things I imagined. But growing up, I realized how precious the simple joys of childhood truly are.

June 1st, Children's Day, is that special occasion kids look forward to most each year. It's a time for new comic books, toys, clothes... and for parents to join in fun games and grant all sorts of 'unreasonable' wishes. Children's Day also carries parents' most heartfelt words for their children, and a chance for them to relive their own childhood, sharing those innocent delights together.

Every time we visit the Garden Hotel, my two little ones insist on playing in the back garden. With leafy shade, birdsong and fragrant flowers, the hotel's multi-level landscaping covers 21,000 square meters. The kids play among the plants, while I stroll and listen to the gentle sound of water—in an instant, I feel a return to nature.

The Garden Hotel's back garden is an absolute paradise for family outings. Plump koi swim in the pond, and blooming flowers delight the eye. Without leaving the city, you can enjoy playing in nature. My two lively kids, cooped up at home too long, had a blast.

Children's Day Special Menu

Kids can make their own desserts.

The restaurant provides cookies, almonds, chocolate, cashews and other ingredients for young diners, along with three sauces: chocolate, caramel, and marshmallow. Kids can mix and match to create their own desserts. My older child was completely absorbed, and almost couldn't bear to eat their creation—such a sense of accomplishment!

Taoyuan Asparagus & Shrimp Dumplings, Vegetable & Cheese Ravioli

These dishes are not only super cute but also taste fantastic, perfect for kids. The Taoyuan Asparagus & Shrimp Dumplings are filled with fresh asparagus and shrimp, showing such thoughtfulness! The Vegetable & Cheese Ravioli combines veggies with cheese in a delightful East-meets-West fusion.

Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls, Fried Chicken Nuggets

The Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls are tangy and appetizing—kids just can't stop eating them. Fried Chicken Nuggets are also a favorite; these plates were cleared in seconds, a huge hit with the little ones.

Chicken & Sweet Corn Cream Soup

With its rich creamy aroma and silky texture, this soup is a hit with kids.

Scallion Pancakes, Mini Shrimp & Mushroom Cheese Flatbread

The Mini Shrimp & Mushroom Cheese Flatbread is richly textured, almost like a pizza. The Scallion Pancakes are crispy and flaky.

One bite of the Crispy BBQ Pork Bun reveals a flaky outer layer and a generous filling of tender pork. One is never enough, and asking for another is perfectly fine—every mouthful filled with sweet, savory BBQ pork multiplies the satisfaction!

The beef burger is a classic. These mini burgers stack layers of flavor. The patty is especially notable, with a strong fresh beef taste, tender and juicy—pure delight.

This dish has a surprise inside, and a sense of ceremony. The chef serves it personally, first cracking the crust with a hammer, then cutting it open with scissors—revealing big chicken legs. A carnivore's dream! The kids watching couldn't wait to dig in, haha!

Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup, Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Tomato & Olive Pasta

A traditional Guangzhou snack familiar to all locals: Shrimp Wontons. Gently biting through the springy, smooth skin releases the freshness of shrimp mixed with the savory richness of pork. This simple dish is bursting with flavor, always making mouths water.

The pasta in the Bolognese is freshly made, with excellent texture, perfectly al dente. Paired with the beef, it's perfect!

Oven-Baked Egg Tarts, Crème Brûlée

The Lingnan-style Oven-Baked Egg Tart is a dim sum staple for Guangzhou's morning tea. Sweet, silky, and delicate on the tongue. How much do you know about how they're made?

The pastry, made with eggs, sugar, lard and flour, is pressed into small round molds and baked. Chefs fold the dough by hand for extra crispiness. Then an egg mixture of sugar water, eggs and evaporated milk is poured in, and baked for 20 minutes.

Fresh from the oven, the tart has a shatteringly crisp crust and a sweet, golden, custardy center.
