Langyu Hotel: A Warm Haven in Bustling Guangzhou
The Pazhou area of Guangzhou always exudes a modern and commercial atmosphere.
It is the site of the new Canton Fair, and nearby stands the Xiaomanyao, representing Guangzhou's height. Across the river lies Zhujiang New Town, the city's most bustling commercial heart.
Perhaps it seems to lack a little of Guangzhou's traditional flavor—though prosperous, that prosperity somehow feels short on warmth. Much like the people who come and go, arriving in droves each Canton Fair, only to hurriedly depart. Countless deals and orders are made here every year, making it a gathering place for business travelers from home and abroad.
But even in this apparently commerce-soaked area, there is art and warmth. Langyu Hotel is just such a place.
Located on Xingang East Road, Langyu Hotel may not catch the eye from the outside, but inside there is always a sense of warmth and understated grace. This light-luxury hotel brings superb relaxation to travelers on their journeys.
The lobby is very spacious, decorated not in a lavish style, but with a giant wooden bookshelf and warm lighting that carry a cozy feel. Sitting on the lobby sofa with a welcome drink and a book makes for a lovely little break.
The lobby also features a smart check-in system, where guests can simply scan their ID and use facial recognition to check in, skipping the hassle of queues.
There is also an adorable smart robot in the lobby that can deliver items to rooms and guide guests to various places—very cute indeed.
Of course, the most important part of a hotel is its rooms. A comfortable room always brings a sense of intimacy, and feeling at home is the greatest wish of any traveler.
The decor here brims with artistry and design. The large hand-painted murals above the beds are all crafted by hand, making each room's artwork unique. If you look closely at the lines, you will find they depict the beautiful scenery of Guangzhou.
The tradition and bustle of Beijing Road, the majesty of Canton Tower, the prosperity of Zhujiang New Town—all are sketched as Guangzhou landmarks with simple strokes, full of artistic flair yet also carrying that traditional warmth.
The rooms are spacious, which is no small feat in pricey Pazhou. They have a thoughtful separate bathroom design.
The bathroom is not small and even comes with a large bathtub; soaking in a hot bath after a tiring day relaxes both body and mind perfectly.
Rooms also include a capsule coffee machine, tea set, and small snacks. Brewing a coffee or steeping a cup of tea, nibbling on a chocolate biscuit, and just spacing out is a very nice option.
There are also movie-themed rooms equipped with a projector and big screen. Lying in bed watching a film gives a cinema-like feel, but in a more comfortable setting with freer space.
For many, exercise is a daily habit. Langyu Hotel has a fitness room, though not large, its well-equipped machines are a pleasant surprise and a satisfying amenity for those used to working out.
The gym includes treadmills, spin bikes, and other facilities. Small as it is, it's fully capable of meeting daily workout needs.
For a lot of people, doing laundry while traveling is a headache. Hand-washing is a chore and drying is difficult. Here, there is a self-service laundry room where you can wash clothes for free! The fully automatic washing machines clean and spin-dry, making it very convenient.
While on the road, I always have fairly high expectations for a hotel restaurant. Not having to leave the hotel to enjoy good food is always a worry-saving, hassle-free joy. And the restaurant at Langyu Hotel pleased me greatly.
The restaurant's decor has a warm feel, and what's special is that the walls are hung with many vinyl records and posters of old-time singers. For vinyl enthusiasts, records are always that crimson mole on their chest.
Vinyl records have a rich, mellow sound, as if carrying the flavor of time. Well-preserved records are treasured collectibles for many. Using them as decoration adds a warm, nostalgic touch.
Of course, apart from the decor, food quality matters even more.
Lunch here is a buffet. The buffet offers Cantonese-style dishes such as hand-shredded chicken and steamed fish, and you can also make your own noodle soup—the choices are truly abundant.
In addition, there are various desserts and cakes. Soft drinks are served in glass bottles, evoking a traditional taste.
Dinner is à la carte, and the dishes here also satisfied me.
Double-boiled soup: Double-boiled soup has always been an indispensable part of Cantonese cuisine. A bowl of soup before a meal is an essential pleasure for many Cantonese people. Here, the soup is made with dendrobium and pork bone, resulting in a sweet, rich broth with a faint, pleasant herbal aroma from the dendrobium—very appetizing. Dendrobium is also a highly beneficial medicinal herb, so this soup is both tasty and nourishing.
Typhoon shelter prawns: Typhoon shelter is a famous Hong Kong cooking style, using crispy fried garlic and other ingredients. The prawns are fresh and bouncy, with the chef carefully removing the vein and whiskers, paired with garlic—incredibly fragrant and delicious.
Beef fillet with king oyster mushroom: The beef is tender and retains its succulent texture after stir-frying. Combined with crisp king oyster mushrooms, the mouthfeel is wonderfully layered.
At Langyu Hotel, there are always many small details that bring lovely surprises. On a journey, these little touches always add an extra warmth.
