Just 1 Hour from Guangzhou! A Qing-Dynasty Hakka Enclosed House Homestay Hidden in Zengcheng – Bring the Kids and Return to the Countryside!
In such a noisy, restless modern city, caught up in the fast pace of life, sometimes we get so busy that we neglect those around us. The distance with our kids gradually grows – why not slow down, take your little ones and experience a pastoral life? Return to the simplest way of living and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Here, verdant hills and clear waters create a delightful scene. No high-rises, no heavy traffic. There's an ancient Hakka guesthouse hidden among bamboo groves, and vast countryside fields – a true reflection of the verse "Picking chrysanthemums beneath the eastern fence, leisurely gazing at the southern mountains."

From Guangzhou, it's just a 1-hour drive to reach Wuxiang Stone House in Paitan Town, Zengcheng District, Guangzhou. Here, the pastoral dream is faithfully recreated, restored and rebuilt from a 200-year-old Hakka walled village.
A Hakka Weilong House settlement: nestled by hills and waters, with grey bricks and black tiles. Though modern upgrades have been made, the historical charm of the original architecture remains! A blend of Lingnan cultural elegance and pastoral landscape style makes it the only boutique hotel in a historic village in Guangzhou ~
As you approach the guesthouse, you'll see clear signage. The host's ingenious design creates a serene and pleasant atmosphere even before you walk through the door.
Open the two intricately carved doors and explore this ancient-style Hakka enclosed house with your kids, feeling the rich Hakka cultural heritage ~

Ming-style furniture, classical natural wood, an elegant and understated new Chinese style – every item here exudes a strong Hakka cultural vibe.
Unexpectedly, this ancient-style Hakka guesthouse hides a multitude of parent-child activities (a chess room, tea room, gym, karaoke, movie room, small animal feeding, a concept farm...)

It's a paradise for families. While we relax and enjoy the slow pace, the kids can have fun freely ~
The study is arranged with serenity and elegance, secluded from the outside noise. Besides reading, you can practice calligraphy.
Of course, there's also a special reading space for the little ones – the Shepherd Boy Library.
This is the kids' own corner, an edutainment children's space where they can do traditional handicrafts, play educational games, read picture books, and take small-group classes.
If you're a tea lover, don't miss the "Bamboo Singing Tea House" created with books, paintings, and tea. In the lazy afternoon sunlight, a cup of tea and a book – such a peaceful moment is simply perfect!
Activities outside the guesthouse are equally delightful: fields, ponds, orchards, hot springs, horse riding, grinding soybeans...
Grind soybeans together with your kids – give it a try! The soy milk you make yourselves will taste even better, with a unique flavor ~
You can also have a close interaction with the most spirited horses and even try horseback riding, turning into an elegant little knight!
The most eye-catching feature is the infinity pool hidden in the bamboo forest, filled with pure spring water and surrounded by bamboo groves – what a refreshing place to enjoy!
There are many accommodation options: courtyard-style villa suites, courtyard guestrooms, duplex family suites, single-level family suites, view king rooms...
We stayed in a Wangxiang Pavilion king room, which has a huge scenic balcony and a private hot-spring bathtub. The room is backed by bamboo groves, facing farmland and distant hills – the entire pastoral landscape is spread before your eyes.
The antique wooden doors, windows, tables and chairs immerse you in the rich Hakka culture.
Although the hotel is close to bamboo forests, there are almost no mosquitoes, thanks to the hotel's thoughtful arrangements. Screen windows are installed on every door and window, and mosquito repellents, coils and other items are placed in the room. They ensure every guest sleeps comfortably ~
A wonderful day starts with breakfast. The breakfast spread is super rich, with vegetables and whole grains that are healthy and green. In the evening, we dined at a local specialty restaurant.
The Stone House Restaurant uses free-range chickens, mountain-pond fish, and naturally seasonal home-grown vegetables and fruits to create a rich menu. Especially the local Hakka specialties – stuffed tofu and braised goose – are highly praised. The fig and chicken soup is simply too good!! Our little girl finished the whole bowl ~
— Side Trips around the Stone House — Baishuizhai (White Water Village)
Baishuizhai is a famous scenic spot in Zengcheng, boasting the waterfall with the greatest vertical drop in mainland China. Here you can enjoy the coolness of the mountains, crisp air, and refreshing waters. It's said that Baishuizhai Scenic Area has the highest negative ion concentration in Guangdong.
As the name suggests, you'll see flowing water everywhere in Baishuizhai.
The water here is crystal clear and lively, washing the mountains fresh and bright, making them lush and beautiful.
The most challenging activity at Baishuizhai is the 9,999-step mountain trail known as "The First Ladder under Heaven." It spans three mountains, connects two major alpine lakes, and is 6.6 kilometers long.
Stroll along the paths of Baishuizhai, splash with your kids in the waterside play area at the foot of the mountain, and quietly soak in the forest atmosphere by the lakeside meadow...
On the way to the guesthouse, you'll see many small shops selling agricultural products. With so many distinctive local goods on display, you'll surely want to buy some to take home ~
Under the pressure of fast-paced life, many people lead monotonous lives, busy with work, and forget to stop and appreciate the beauty around them.
Find some time, bring your loved ones close to nature, back to nature, and experience the slow life we yearn for...
