At the End of July, Let's Go to Guilin + Yangshuo Together
Lunch: Laodongjiang Rice Noodles + Snail Rice Noodles (tasty, braised rice noodles, cheap and good value; snail rice noodles are less pungent than the packaged kind and still very fresh)
Strolled around Dongxi Alley, took a look outside the Jingjiang Prince City & Solitary Beauty Peak Scenic Area. At the No. 2 entrance of Elephant Trunk Hill Scenic Area, there is a short stretch where you can see Elephant Trunk Hill. Took photos. Recommended to eat at Jingxiang Restaurant for a panoramic view of Elephant Trunk Hill.
Xu Auntie Desserts is worth trying, tasty and cheap, very local. Nearby there is a market with a down-to-earth atmosphere, you can visit if you like.
Dinner: Agan Restaurant (Sour Radish Stir-fried Double Crisp is delicious, worth a try; Roasted Goose is average, save it for Chunji Roasted Goose; Steamed Taro Shreds with Cured Meat is good but not as good as Chunji’s)
Walk through Zhengyang Pedestrian Street to Shanhu Lake to see the night view of Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas, then continue along to Ronghu Lake - Guihu Lake - Mulong Lake
Qingbuliang (a sweet dessert soup) is worth trying.
Accommodation: Dongxiang Small Yard Boutique Inn (Guilin Two Rivers and Four Lakes) ==> Recommended, the interior decoration is cozy, the bed is very comfortable, great location, convenient to get anywhere.
Breakfast: Haitian Changfen (rice noodle rolls) — average, not as good as those in Shenzhen or Chaoshan.
Took a taxi to Mopanshan Pier and took a third-class cruise boat from Guilin to Yangshuo. Along the way, you can see the scenery on both sides of the Li River, including the famous Nine Horses Fresco Hill and the background of the 20-yuan note.
Lunch: Guilin Rice Noodles + Snail Rice Noodles (from "Tongue on Rice Noodles") — just average, a standard small shop.
Walked around Yangshuo town, afternoon tea.
Guilin Song of Eternal Love Show (ticket prices change unpredictably; you can ask your hotel owner).
Dinner: Wangjiang Tower Restaurant, this place is recommended. The Cheese Baked Sweet Potato is delicious! Can be served as dessert or main course, kids will definitely like it. The Secret-spiced Braised Pork Belly is amazing with alcohol, the more you chew the more fragrant it gets. The Tomato Local Chicken Small Hotpot has a slightly spicy tomato base with a hint of ginger, the chicken is very fresh, and the soup surprisingly tastes great together.
Accommodation: Chun Nuan Hua Kai Inn (Yangshuo West Street Branch) ==> Not recommended, there is renovation outside, and you can hear construction noise from 8 a.m. It faces the street, and although the windows are double-glazed, it is still noisy, and the door is not soundproof; you can hear anyone talking in the corridor. Depends on the quality of your neighbors... If they call out to each other in the corridor early in the morning, you won't be able to sleep. When the upstairs room uses water, you can hear it very clearly in our room, like a loud water flow directly overhead...
Breakfast: Tried the Old Duck Noodles, which were relatively light, served with a roasted duck leg. After eating noodles for several days, it was a bit greasy.
Rented an electric scooter and drove to the Ten Mile Gallery. It's just a road with some scenery on both sides. To be honest, the scenery is quite average, not comparable to what we saw on the Li River. There are various small paid attractions along the way; we didn't enter any of them, just rode through. Then we drove to Gongnong Bridge, where you can see the Yulong River. Continuing further, you can see Moon Hill; we didn't go inside to climb, just looked at its shape from outside. Continue to see the cable car of Ruyi Peak, and further on you can reach Silver Cave. Book tickets in advance through the innkeeper or the scooter rental shop; we booked at 50 yuan per ticket (on-site 65). After visiting Silver Cave, we returned along the same route to Yangshuo and returned the scooter. When renting an electric scooter, remember to get the one with the largest power (72V); the initial price was 50 per scooter, we bargained down to 40.
On the way back we had lunch: Xie Dajie Beer Fish, this restaurant is everywhere. The beer fish was okay, nothing particularly amazing.
It rained in the afternoon, so we rested at the hotel.
Dinner: You Chi You He (Eat and Drink), this restaurant is very good! All locals. Recommended: Stuffed Snails with Meat. Beer Duck tastes like a dry-pot duck, not particularly special. The "Suoyi Egg" (a type of egg dish) was quite tasty. Dried small fish with pickled beans is also great with alcohol. You can try other local dishes; we had too few people to order much.
Strolled around Yangshuo West Street, the bars are very lively.
Accommodation: Yangshuo Yishui Bay Resort Hotel Warm Balcony View Family Suite ==> Not recommended, very remote location, and the room we got faced the back side with no view. Staying here was pointless. The room was quite spacious, but the hangers were a bit moldy, and the bathroom door only had half a door.
Breakfast: Still Snail Rice Noodles + Rice Noodles, and also tried Gongcheng Oil Tea. First put rice crisps, crispy fruits (similar to fried dough), peanuts, fried rice into the bowl, then pour the oil tea (made by boiling tea leaves and ginger). Before drinking, add some salt to taste. It tastes a bit bitter, but becomes acceptable as you go on.
Rented an electric scooter again and cycled near the Yulong River. The stretch you can ride is not long, but there is a section for hiking; you can ask locals for the exact location.
Lunch: Chunji Roasted Goose, the roasted goose is delicious! The goose and snails are delicious! The oil tea black tofu is delicious! The steamed taro with cured pork is delicious!
There are cafes in Yangshuo town along the river; you can have coffee by the river.
Suggestion: Tickets in Guilin are really expensive. It depends on your preference. We didn't enter Elephant Trunk Hill Park, Jingjiang Prince City, or the attractions along the Ten Mile Gallery; we didn't think it was worth the money. Guilin's snacks feel more abundant, affordable, and tasty than Yangshuo's; you can eat more snacks in Guilin before leaving. A friend also watched "Impression Liu Sanjie"; in comparison, "Eternal Love" is better. Liu Sanjie's scene is more grand, but too abstract and hard to understand; however, if you've seen the Songcheng Eternal Love show before, then this one is nothing special, as they are similar. Ruyi Peak has a cable car and a glass bridge; if you have money and time, you can go. In Yangshuo, you can also try hot air balloons and paragliding. Bamboo rafting on the Yulong River is more recommended; it's rowed by hand, quiet, with good scenery. There's no need to buy local specialties on the spot; you can find everything on Taobao. Fruits are not locally grown except for the yellow peel fruit (wampee); you can buy some to try, but don't bother bringing them back specially.
