Main Tourist Attractions in Guilin
Elephant Trunk Hill: Known for its wonder. First, it resembles an elephant in shape and spirit; second, between the trunk and legs, it forms a moon over the water, creating the "Elephant Hill with Water Moon" spectacle. Elephant Trunk Hill is the city emblem of Guilin, located at the confluence of the Lijiang River and Taohua River in the city center. It looks like a giant elephant, with a round cave of about 150 square meters between the trunk and legs. The river flows through the cave, as if the moon is floating on water. The Elephant Hill Water Moon on the west bank contrasts with the Chuanyue Rock on the east bank of the Lijiang River, forming the unique "Lijiang Double Moons" spectacle—one hanging in the sky, the other floating on water.
Lijiang River: The Lijiang River is a typical karst terrain, known as the Hundred-li Lijiang River, Hundred-li Gallery. The pattern on the back of the new 20-yuan RMB note is a section of the Lijiang River landscape. The Lijiang River has different charms in different weather: clear peaks and reflections on sunny days, mist-covered mountains on overcast days, and dreamy rain on rainy days. Main ways to tour the Lijiang River include boat cruises, bamboo rafts, and hiking. Boat cruises are divided into the essence tour, Yangshuo water tour, and city water tour.
Longji Rice Terraces: The Longji Rice Terraces are a massive group of terraced fields in the Guilin area, divided into three parts: Jinkeng Rice Terraces, Ping'an Zhuang Rice Terraces, and Longji Ancient Zhuang Village Rice Terraces. Visiting Longji Rice Terraces mainly involves hiking, viewing, and photography; many photography enthusiasts come specifically for sunrise. You can also taste local farmhouse dishes and experience ethnic minority customs.
Yangshuo West Street: West Street is a combination of food hunting, shopping, and bars. Its richness and diversity make it a unique and beautiful landmark in Yangshuo. The less-than-1km street is paved with stone slabs in a curved S-shape, with ancient and elegant buildings on both sides in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties in northern Guangxi, featuring small black tiles, sloping roofs, and hanging balconies.
Ten Li Gallery: Composed of Lotus Pond, Swallow Lake, Primitive Tribe, etc., this man-made scenic area combines local rural and mountain-water scenery. Boating on the lake, you can see water-powered trip hammers, wind and rain bridges, and bronze drum towers, and enjoy ethnic dance performances. Hiking allows you to view the clusters of ethnic minority buildings of northern Guangxi and review the ancient cultures of Guangxi minorities, such as wine-making, paper-making, and printing.
Silver Cave: Located in Maling Town, Lipu County, Guilin City, the Silver Cave Scenic and Holiday Resort is convenient in transportation, 85 km from Guilin City and only 18 km from the famous tourist destination Yangshuo. The cave runs through 12 peaks, with a developed tour route of 2,000 meters, divided into three parts: lower cave, hall, and upper cave. There are 28 beautiful and magnificent scenic spots inside the cave. The unique natural landscapes are masterpieces of nature, with colorful and variously shaped stalactites, stalagmites, stone towers, stone curtains, and stone waterfalls, forming a myriad of world karst wonders, praised as "World Karst Wonder."
Integrating natural and cultural landscapes, the area is rich in tourism resources of various types. Natural landscapes mainly include cave landscapes, peak forest and peak cluster landscapes, spring landscapes, and rural scenery. The scenic area has a total of 58 scenic spots, including 30 outside the cave and 28 inside the cave.
Guilin's cuisine is also excellent.
Yangshuo Beer Fish: There are several choices of fish, with significant price differences; the most affordable is usually the Maogu fish. The preparation method generally involves frying the cleaned fish until the skin is crispy and fragrant, then adding vegetables and soy sauce. A distinctive feature is the red color of the beer fish, due to fresh tomatoes and red peppers as main ingredients, which also greatly enhance the flavor. Another feature is that beer fish is cooked not with water but with Yangshuo's Liquan beer!
Lijiang River Shrimp: Stir-fried Lijiang River shrimp uses small river shrimp from the Lijiang River in Yangshuo as the main ingredient. It is characterized by adding local Sanhua liquor during stir-frying, resulting in a crispy texture. The small river shrimp from the Lijiang River grow in a good environment, so the meat is very tender!
Eighteen Stuffed Dishes (Shi Ba Niang): In Yangshuo, there is a saying: "No stuffed dish, no feast." Stuffed dishes are a local traditional specialty, with eighteen classic varieties, thus called Yangshuo's "Eighteen Stuffed Dishes." But actually, there are many more varieties! Stuffed dishes generally use vegetables or bean products as the outer shell, with meat or eggs as the filling. Common Yangshuo stuffed dishes include stuffed snails, stuffed tofu, stuffed eggplant, stuffed bitter gourd, stuffed winter melon, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed peppers, stuffed taro, stuffed loofah, stuffed eggs, stuffed lotus root, stuffed tomatoes, stuffed pumpkin flowers...
