Guilin Cuiping Five Finger Mountain
When Cuiping Village is mentioned, people will naturally think of Cuiping Five Finger Mountain. The peaks, forests, water reflections, and sunset afterglow there are truly beautiful beyond words, attracting photography enthusiasts from all over.
Cuiping Five Finger Mountain is located in the western part of Cuiping Village, Zhouzhai Village Committee, Putao Town, Yangshuo County, Guilin City. It is the core area of the Putao Peak Forest in the Guilin Karst World Natural Heritage site, 17 kilometers from Yangshuo County town. It is an ideal tourist destination in Yangshuo for viewing peak forest scenery, pastoral landscapes, and photographing sunset views. In December 2019, it was rated as one of the top ten global photography destinations.
The correct way to explore Cuiping Village's rural tourism is 'One Mountain, One River, Two Ancestral Halls, One Museum.' The seven natural villages including Cuiping at the foot of Five Finger Mountain are the largest settlement of Zhuge Liang's descendants in southern China. Cuiping Village's Zhuge Ancestral Hall is the core of the Zhuge descendants from 133 Zhuge villages in Guangxi. The villagers utilize their unique folk historical culture to create the Zhuge Liang Culture Festival. There is the only Marquis Wu Shrine in the Guilin area, a two-hall, three-room ancestral hall that enshrines the statue of Zhuge Liang and the ancestors of the Zhuge clan. It was built in the Song Dynasty (1134 AD) by Zhuge Zhongxian, the 23rd generation descendant of Zhuge Liang. Visitors can experience the profound Zhuge culture such as wooden oxen and flowing horses. Zhuge Ping, a descendant of Zhuge Liang from Cuiping and a Huguang Advisor in the Ming Dynasty, often climbed Five Finger Mountain to study hard in his youth. In the 17th year of the Hongwu reign, he passed the Guangxi provincial examination and became the Jieyuan (top scholar). Later generations built the 'Top Scholar Reading Terrace' on the mountainside in his memory. Cuiping Thatched Cottage, the former residence of Zhuge Ping, is located west of the Zhuge Family Ancestral Hall in Cuiping Village, Putao Town, Yangshuo County. It now serves as the Zhuge Clan History Exhibition Hall. The exhibition contents include three chapters: 'Family History,' 'Famous Figures' Stories,' and 'Cultural Relics and Historic Sites,' showcasing the origin and current status of the Guangxi Zhuge branch. The three treasures of the thatched cottage are 'Zhuge Family Instructions,' 'Zhuge Liang's Handwritten 'Yuanshe Tie',' and 'Top Scholar Reading Pavilion,' which carry the deep nostalgia of Guangxi Zhuge descendants and are an important window for visitors to understand the large Zhuge clan family.
The scenic area has built the 'Big Dipper Seven Stars Zhuge Village Viewing Point' and 'World Natural Heritage Photography Point.' The photograph 'Cuiping' taken by Wu Fangkui, a photographer from the China Photographers Association, won the 'Top Ten Works' in China's First Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers Photography Exhibition, and China Post issued special stamps.
