Winter Sunshine, Hiking the Li River, Enjoying the Most Beautiful Karst Scenery
Early winter is the best season for hiking, the weather is not yet cold, and the scenery remains beautiful.
"Guilin's landscape is the best under heaven, and Yangshuo's landscape is the best within Guilin." The beauty of the Li River is always captivating. Today's hiking route is the most beautiful part of the Li River: Xingping to Yangshuo.
This section includes ferry rides, Li River scenery, stone-paved paths, and wild mountain trails along the river. It involves crossing rivers and climbing over hills, taking about 8-9 hours in total, with some difficulty.
Starting from Yangshuo with five people, we reached Xingping Pier in 35 minutes and took a ferry to Dahebei Village on the other side.
After crossing, turn left and walk along the cement road by the river.
From Dahebei to Liandaowan Village, about 20 minutes of walking, you'll see the sign for Guihua Ancient Trail.
Follow the sign to the left, pass through a pomelo grove, cross an old bridge, then go left until you see this sign.
This stone-paved path is the Guihua Ancient Trail. Climbing up the steps is not difficult; there is a section of stairs that is very photogenic.
The Guihua Ancient Trail takes about 15 minutes in total, but you'll spend a lot of time taking photos and posing. After finishing the ancient trail, turn right at this intersection.
Turning right here can be tricky; it's best to ask local villagers, otherwise you might get lost. Next, you need to climb over hills, walking along the hillsides of countless peaks. After passing through several orchards, you'll reach Shawan Village.
Upon reaching Shawan Village, walk along the Li River until you reach Pubutang, passing a section of cement road and then a small path like this (somewhat hidden, you need to look carefully).
Arriving at Pubutang, there is a stone-paved walkway along the Li River, passing by an old house (farmhouse meals + accommodation).
We wanted to have a hearty meal and rest here, but we called out for a long time and no one answered. So we had to move on.
From Pubutang, hike along Wujiu Beach until this point, cross this small puddle, and you'll reach Gaozhou Village.
We set off at 10:45 AM and arrived at Gaozhou Village at 3:45 PM, a full 5 hours. The whole journey of climbing over mountains was a test of physical strength. The worst part was that there were no farmhouse meals along the way, so we couldn't replenish energy. After all, this wasn't professional hiking, just for fun. Tired and weary, we found a car and rushed straight back to Yangshuo.
If we continued hiking along the river back to Yangshuo, it would take another 3 hours. Interested hiking buddies can give it a try.
The scenery along this section is quite nice, but completing the entire route is a big test of stamina. Be sure to bring enough food, as there are no places to eat along the way.
