The Silent Geisha Street — Gion

📍 Kyoto · 👁 838 reads

Located in the Higashiyama Ward of Kyoto, Gion is a street that began operating tea houses and geisha houses in 1665. At its peak, it had over 3,000 geisha. The original buildings are still preserved, and in 1999, it was designated by the Japanese government as a Historic Landscape Preservation District. We visited during the day, all the shops were closed, and we didn't see any geisha or maiko.
