This bridge, designed in 1884, is one of London's most iconic landmarks. Standing on Tower Bridge, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the River Thames. Because of the two Victorian neo-Gothic towers on the bridge, its architectural style is highly distinctive, earning it the reputation of being the "Gateway to London."
As a symbol of British culture, many chase scenes from the James Bond series were filmed here.
The architectural style of Tower Bridge is both ancient and sturdy, while also serving a practical transportation function (to this day it is a key traffic artery connecting the north and south banks of the Thames). It has provided beautiful backdrops for many films, such as *Lara Croft: Tomb Raider*, *Sherlock Holmes*, and *Spider-Man: Far From Home*.
This magnificent church has been considered a sacred site since 1065. It is not only the burial place of British monarchs but also the resting place of the famous writer Charles Dickens. The pterodactyl sculpture at the street corner marks the boundary between Westminster and the City of London. *The Times* was founded here in 1702.
The church is solemn and majestic, full of the beauty of age. In *The Da Vinci Code*, Robert Langdon, after observing the exterior of Westminster Abbey, realizes he has misinterpreted the clue "A knight interred by A.P.," and then goes to search for Isaac Newton's tomb.
The Mission: Impossible series has filmed in London many times, from the first film in 1996 to the latest *Mission: Impossible – Fallout* in 2018, all featuring London scenes. It's clear that Tom Cruise has a special fondness for London. St. Paul's Cathedral is a major filming location for *Fallout*. Nearby, the Tate Modern's iconic 325-foot chimney is also a recognizable landmark.
*Sherlock Holmes* starring Robert Downey Jr. also filmed in multiple locations in London. To showcase the strong Victorian atmosphere, scenes were shot at St. Paul's Cathedral.
The National Maritime Museum is located in Greenwich, London, on the beautiful Greenwich World Heritage Site. The Prime Meridian and London's only observatory are also here. The museum was founded in 1807 and houses the world's most important collections of British maritime history, including ship models, maps, manuscripts, navigational instruments, chronometers, and observatory equipment. The museum also has the world's largest maritime history reference library (with 100,000 volumes), with the oldest books dating back to the 15th century.
Although the story of *Les Misérables* is set in Paris, the filming location was actually the National Maritime Museum. The museum's grand square was transformed into the Place de la Bastille, and the production team built a 40-foot-tall elephant as a symbol of Napoleon's victory. It became a prominent symbol during the funeral procession of French commander Jean Maximilien Lamarque and the subsequent student uprising. It is said that producer Cameron Mackintosh was so fond of the elephant that he had it moved to his home in the UK after filming.
Many scenes from *The Duchess* and *Thor: The Dark World* were also filmed here.
