National Day Travel Recommendation: London Wetland Centre – A Tranquil Oasis in the City Centre
In the heart of Manhattan, New York, lies the famous Central Park. But in the centre of London, there is also a peaceful oasis. It is a paradise for wildlife and a microcosm of London's natural scenery. It is the attraction recommended today by The London Pass under Go City: the London Wetland Centre.
Situated on the banks of the River Thames, opposite Hammersmith, the 105-acre London Wetland Centre is known for its rich variety of wildlife and its ever-changing natural scenery throughout the year. It is a peaceful and charming place suitable for family outings and is one of London's most important conservation projects of the 21st century.
The Wetland Centre is built on four redundant reservoirs, with flat paths winding between lakes, meadows, and gardens, allowing you to immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery up close. Its six hides and a two-storey observation tower are perfectly positioned for excellent wildlife viewing.
As a warm home for various wildlife, the lakes, ponds and gardens of the London Wetland Centre attract 180 species of birds, as well as otters, bats, butterflies and other species. In spring, you can listen to the chorus of frogs in the marsh and the whirring of dragonfly wings. In summer, hundreds of swifts and sand martins swoop overhead, putting on a spectacular 'aerial acrobatics' show. The wetland scenery at dusk and the flights of bats at night are also magnificent. In golden autumn, leaves turn yellow, berries ripen, and mushrooms emerge from the soil, painting the entire reserve in a colourful and beautiful landscape. Winter is also one of the best times to visit the Wetland Centre, when some of the most beautiful wild ducks, such as wigeon, teal and pintail, come to the reserve to spend the winter.
If you are travelling with children, the Wetland Centre's children's playground has slides, water games, a giant vole tunnel and other facilities, allowing children of all ages to learn while playing.
In addition to the adorable wildlife, the London Wetland Centre is also planted with over 300,000 plants and 27,000 trees, making it truly deserving of the title 'natural oxygen bar' in the heart of London!
A paradise for wildlife, a peaceful oasis for humans – come to the London Wetland Centre to experience the serene beauty and vibrant life of nature.
